  • Thanks to Volbeat i know this song

  • All can say is wow

  • Good song !

  • Love her latter day performance, love the live orchestra. And Dusty's gesture at 1:55 to the words "Asked if I cared to dance"-- does that remind anyone else of something Michael Flatley does in the Riverdance video? Did that show come out before or after this?

  • @catrinlewis Just checked out one of her performances of this from the '60s. She does the same thing there. Hmm.

  • So incredible........Tired of hearing Barbra..Whitney...Mariah...the voice...BS Dusty could put more behind a song than any of these other women.

  • Everyone is arguing whether she aged well or not or if she sounds good or not. No, she didn't age too well but generally aging doesn't look to good to begin with plus 25 years go by. Her vocals are still good, they are worn though from alcoholism and smoking. That does have an effect on your vocal cords, but still she made the live performance and sang the song. No one can expect the same Dusty as she was in the 60's.

  • I love it! The Dusty Springfield story is so sad, though.

  • written by the great mike hawker great song great performance by the wonderful dusty

  • How wonderfully beautiful to hear a much later version sung by the truly amazing & oh so talented Dusty Springfield & then to see & hear her sing it in such a loving & sexy way. She was always in a class all by herself !!

  • What a great song sung by a legendary singer! Anyone else notice this- around 22 seconds, I think she almost forgets the lyrics. She starts to sing "No matter what you do" instead of "It happens to be true."

  • First time viewing this treasure...the whole production is great .... Dusty she was the ultimate singer performer... WOW !!!

  • Brilliant with a capital brill. One of a kind singer and a true idol. Her legend will live on for years to come. RIP Dusty.

  • There were SEVEN people who only want to be with Justine!!! Grrrr!

  • She sure didn't lose much in 26 years....

She is fabulous...my favorite female artist of all time!!

    I love Dusty!!!!

  • love, Love, LOVE this song!

  • @missEvaMarie58 I'm with you EvaMarie! I've got five different versions in my favorites :-)

  • She still has it after 22 years.

  • Amazing! This is true talent, today's 'artists' should take a leaf out of Dusty's book or one of the other legends of her time!

Even in 1989, she still sung this song LIVE and to perfection!

  • Arliss!

  • ATTENTION:

If you haven't seen her version of this song in the live black & white Ed Sullivan Show clip submitted by movietime48, you're missing it!

    GO CHECK THIS ONE OUT!

  • A great, great song that never stops making you feel good. The background vocalists are awesome and Dusty turning around to acknowledge them is a nice touch. Most amazing, some of the background musicians weren't even born when this tune hit the charts. Not everyone has the talent to bridge generations. Rest in peace fine lady.

  • Such a great song and performer....

  • ..she had it like that...

that soul that voice that vibe that class

she could be with me anytime

  • The greatest, Dusty, if only she had understood how much her public loved her during the days when she was tired and feeling low. Still loved and admired as Britain's greatest ever 'sou'l voice to this day. God bless Dusty- rest in peace.

  • GOD THIS IS WONDERFUL!!!

    ALWAYS LOVE DUSTY!!

  • she was and always will be fab.

  • I love Dusty :-)

  • She Was Awesome! Great old tune! :)

  • She was so Great :-)

    But it's so... 1999 :-(

  • The background vocals are really, really good in this. Dusty is angelic, as always. But I believe the background vocals and arrangement really contributed to the success of the original recording.

  • I have heard the name dusty springfield before tho never really listened to her or payed close attention- what an amazing talent and stage presence. And given the way she looked especially years ago, who would ever think she was called dusty for being a tomboy, which I learned after some research.

  • What a fabulous voice and fabulous personality! I'd give an arm and a leg to have been there and met her!! Did the audience realise just what a treat they were in for?

    I'm jealous. She's a diamond lady!

  • SHE'S STUNNING! WOW! SO RADIANT!

  • WOW...........live performance usually sucks..............but not this time! Don't know where you found this but it's as good or better than the original. R.I.P. Dusty, you did well!

  • Anyone who says Dusty is really gone is not listening to her music. In that she still one of the most alive and vivacious entertainers ever.

  • I had my information incorrect. Dusty was making an album in 1994 when the cancer was diagnosed. There was a short remission with treatments. Dusty is pure charm and energy. What a loss!

  • She was still fabulous, with the cancer on hold. She did an album in the early nineties, then got sick again and died in 1999. Dusty was one of a kind. Such a presence up on the stage with her soulful voice.

  • There is no other like Dusty, we lost one of the greatest singers of all time.

  • Great Show!

  • Dusty was simply the best. No one else can even come close.

  • i love this song.. my sister have always dedicated this song to her crush... lol... i think he's married now...

  • What's really amazing is that Dusty was a heavy smoker! How many of us would sound that good at 50 if we had been lifelong smokers? AND this was live. I don't think Amy Winehouse or Britney Spears will ever come close to Dusty........

  • :( This was only ten years before she passed. She was hot as ever. What a great loss to the music industry and to her fans.

  • LOVE YOU DUSTY

  • That was great! At least we still have the records. Dusty, you could do anything but I'll always remember you as the first real rock'n'roll chick out of England. Such soulful singing!

  • the white stripes are a hot alternative band and they told many fans they love dusty and were inspired by her.

Amazing how people in a totally different genre of music can appreciate her 40 years later.

  • the tourists is better

  • Dusty is the best,I never get tired of hearing this song.

  • Great music !

  • A live performance, awesome!!

  • None better!

  • She still could pull that song off, even after all those years. xx

Cor (Let's Talk Dusty fan forum)

  • Love her! Bravo!

  • Gr8 song. 1 of my favs. RIP Dusty.

  • At least she has the proper talent to sing live on stage rather than lipsyncing like the fraudstars do these days.

RIP Dusty Springfield, you were such real talent!

  • RIP

you are a star in my heart!

  • dumbcow ideed. Dusty is one of the greatest singers of her time. Can the same be said of Volbeat?

  • I like their cover better too, but you got to admit...whitout Dusty, Volbeat would never have made their song :D

  • I wonder if she ever got sick of singin' this song

  • I preffer the Volbeat cover, altough this one is nice too. Just a matter of taste.

Dusty was a great artist though

  • the best soul singer to come out of uk

  • Despite the rather stiff supper-club swing of the band, Dusty shines.

  • Dusty was the voice. She is truly missed.

  • Great Song

  • 5 stars for Dusty...great performancce, as all Dusty fans expect from the Great Lady...R.I.P. Dusty...

  • Truly great song... thank you Raymond for sharing the song....

  • does anyone know how /where I can find the sheetmusic for dustys hits?

I'm starting a power metal band caled andraste& these songs would the perfect cover songs

  • @Freyja1133 Check out Volbeat's cover of this song its awsome! Good luck with your band. I will check you guys out.

  • No! I can't agree! The Volbeat version is bad. Vonda Shepard does a slow romantic version. Even the Bay City Rollers do a better version. And the Volbeat video is also disappointing---we don't get to see the plastic surgeons results! 3:01 wasted....

  • The pianist - is he the same guy who played on Parkinson?

  • a legend and so rightly so :) luv this song

  • My mum had the record and played it all the time, I loved The Tourists versions when it came out in 1980 and I knew all the words which my friends found bizarre.

  • A Musical Goddess for all time !!

  • something went wrong with her voice at 2.25? the song was nearly over i think she did brilliant

  • Something went wrong with her throat at 2:25 when she holds it. After that her voice struggled.

  • oh yes! Patsy Cline, Dusty Springfield, and Connie Frances, ALL THE BEST IN THE WORLD! Love this song, and the video! Thank your for sharing!

  • Dolly, have you forgotten darlene Love,Linda ronstadt& Olivia newton John?

  • This clip just demonstrates how much of a song stylist and how musical Dusty was.

  • This is AMAZING - 26 years after she recorded it Dusty still had that great youthful voice, and the backing musicans, even though probably pre-recorded, are also very good.

    What a Loss Dusty was....

  • Not pre-recorded but live. She did struggle a bit, but time (and drugs, alcohol did affect her singing). But still pretty good!

  • True legend with a great soulful voice :-)

    Thanks for posting!

  • Dusty Springfield is for me right up there with Patsy Cline & Judy Garland. They were all powerhouse female vocalists, and imitators will always be just that. A tremendous artist who remains one of a kind!

  • Is it true that Dusty had reconstructive face surgery during the 80s? I notice her face became markedly thinner but I thought perhaps her weight had fluctuated.

  • Take a breath people. She sounds just fine here. Really good even. Nice rendition. From the vocals to the strings...

  • If you are going to "pick apart" Dusty after she is gone from us, then you don't cherish her the way that many of us do. Go watch some other videos, and leave us to enjoy Dusty without your rude comments. She had throat problems which caused her vocal cords to seize up...hence, the clutching at the throat.

Love you, Dusty, and will defend you to the end! You were, and are, the Best!

  • I couldn't have said it better Just4Dusty. I cherish her deeply and love you for your loving comments. Missing you daily Dusty....sigh

  • I love the way Dusty sings it here, she sparkles as allways;I'll allways have her music to keep her in my heart. The trumpet players are handsome.

  • I thought she sang it really well.

  • Wilco.......get a life.....stop with the negatavism.....easy to talk about her now that she's crossed over, isn't it???? You couldn't carry her bags.......douche bag.......

  • Yeffa, Dusty would be the last person on earth to believe she should be crowned with a halo just because she was dead. Her irreverent sense of humor would have blown your kind of response out the window.

  • dont get me wrong, i believe the dusty springfield of the 60's was untouchable and the complete performer but I personally can see why she declined in the 70's/80's because the drugs/booze really changed her voice and she started to sound like a country singer (still a good one but not original). Plus having reconstructive face surgery in the early 80's after getting hit in the face with a frying pan didnt help. Still a great song though

  • Hahaha she suffered from laryngitis during this period, hence it is naturally for her to struggle to hit the notes. But from what i can see and hear, she does a pretty good job here.. i would liek to see someone else suffer from an inflammation of the windpipe and dish out notes as well as she can

  • wilco: it wasn't a "frying pan." It was the consequence of a nasty taste for the wrong type of woman, fueled by a lot of booze.

  • fantastic, i think she aged great, god bless you dusty, we miss you xxxx

  • Yes David....she is the original singer....me thinks this was her biggest hit....loved her then....love her MORE now!!!! Dusty was the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is she the original singer og this awesome song? Her biggest hit?

    Thanks

    David

  • This is a great song. Thanks for the old video of a great moment from my past.

  • Erm, she doesnt smoke

  • What's really amazing is that Dusty was a heavy smoker! How many of us would sound that good at 50 if we had been lifelong smokers? AND this was live. I don't think Amy Winehouse or Britney Spears will ever come close to Dusty.

  • How lucky were all those present in that TV studio!? The audience, the musicians, backing singers, even the camera crew! They all got to hear Dusty sing live! How I envy them!

Thank you for uploading this! : )

  • you got htat right. would be an awesome gig. evne hte guy/gal working security gets to see and hear this

  • there's just nothing not to like, about Dusty!

  • luismiguel sang the cover... ahora te puedes marcharr

  • I love Dusty, even in live performances, she wanted them to sound just like the records, strings, horns and backup singers. Those backup singers were awesome! I was singing with Dusty and then the backup singers. I Love you Dusty Springfield! May you Rest In Peace!

  • She sounds a lot better than the lip syncing singers we have now.

  • Hiya Lime Green.

Did you notice at 45 she acknowledges her mistake to the backing group. She's a belter, no-one else will ever come close. Love yer Dusty R.I.P lass X X Ray♥

  • I didn't even notice that; thanks for pointing that out to me. She really is a true character and will be forever missed. She is awesome!

  • I don't know if anyone has ever noticed, but Dusty kind of messed up at 0:22 - 0:23. She says "no m..appens to be true" and it is really supposed to be "it happens to be true." You can tell she was about to say "no matter what you do" which is later in the song. It doesn't matter though, I still love her and her singing.

  • hehe! right on!

  • She often forgot her lyrics. Just one more adorable thing to love about her!

  • Yup, you sure are right :)

  • when she let rip (which was not often in her later years) her voice was still a thing of wonder.

as Carole King said not so long ago, there is a hole in popular music where Dusty Springfield used to be.

  • Bravissima! Great interpretation, Great Dusty!

  • fantastycznie....

  • now thats what u can call a singer still grt voice after 36 yrs sounding the same grt

  • Im a 15 year old male, and love Dusty. Im glad i have saw this, it has comforted me - its different enough so that i know its not lip synchronising, but still sounds the same, and i am happy that as she got older, she still sounded the same, although with the 80's facade, albeit!! She was a stunner in the sixties, and still sounded the same until her death, i will love her forever

  • I am 15 and feel the exact same way. Dusty will always have a place in my heart.

  • im 21 and this is pure class to me!!!!!!

  • Damn no matter how old she was, she nailed that song like when it was first recorded.

  • I love this song and after 46 years it still sounds brilliant, it really has stood the test of time. I can't believe she left us 10 years ago.

God bless you Dusty, you were the essence of Fabness xxx

  • Meravigiosa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Many thanks, Frans. What a class act.

  • One of my favorites in the late 60ties. We called that "Beat" ... haha ... so funny. Dusty is a great artist. Richard Carpenter should have tried a Duett with her after Karen has died.

  • he did- Dusty sang on Carpenter's song "Something in Your Eyes", which became an AC hit in 1987. It's posted here on youtube.

  • she may not have aged too well, but damn, she still had the cordS!

  • Let that be a lesson, kids - stay off excessive drinking and drugs, and out of the sun.

She looks okay, anyway. I think its the awful clothes that do her no favours. I notice she holds her throat towards the end of the song. A problem there, perhaps.

  • she never had drug problems? and maybe she is holding her upper chest, since she died of breast cancer...

  • Sorry, you are speaking out of ignorance.

It's widely documented and she herself admits she made a gross error of getting heavily into drink and drugs while in California, likely out of sheer boredom.

If one has breast cancer, it does not cause one to instinctively hold the chest. However, if you look carefully, her voice suddenly dips as she touches her throat.

  • It wasn't just the drinking and the drugs, British women generally don't age well.

  • That's not really fair. There are plenty of women here that age well. I imagine women in Scandinavian countries, for example, age better due to the lower sun levels. It gets worse the nearer to the equator you get. Dusty Springfield said that so many women in California had skin like leather handbags because of too much sunshine, and part of the reason she was glad to be back in England was because she didn't also want to end up looking like a leather handbag.

  • Uh, yeah, because England is soooo sunny. There's probably more sun here than there.

  • But not as intense. Rather like comparing Scotland to southern England.

  • Well, whatever. It has nothing to do with sunlight, they age badly because most of them didn't even look good in the first place.

  • That's pretty stupid of you. They only look bad after they have tattoos..

  • Come again?

  • I agree. I live in California and there are so many women that are just so tanned and have stayed on the beach (or tanning salon, who knows what they do now?) so much that they just look... Ew. I don't quite know how to say it. Tanned and wrinkly, I guess.

  • i believe dusty said it best when she said they look like leather handbags!

Still greatly missed and over 20 years later still sounds the same and knows the words!

  • Maybe she did say it best.

She said in an interview that this song was too high for her. It doesn't sound like that, though.

  • what i really meant is that it still sounds good! but you can hear that she isnt singing the right notes in some parts or whatever....reaching the right pitch is probably better, she had a very smooth voice when she was younger, but everyones voice changed with age!

still a good singer though, i think we can all agree!

  • She can really connect with the audience in some way. I don't know how she does it. Maybe it's how she laughs during her performances occasionally.

  • i think its because she is always putting her soul in the performance....looking to express dome part of her with the song! She was a great singer and performer

  • It doesnt show in her voice.. she can still sing.

  • when was this?

  • the greatest female performer. i love dusty

  • i agree!

  • Noel Edmond's dad on piano

  • who is that?

  • Great performance! Love Dusty!

  • At 0:21 she forgets the words... She says "No happens to be true." But she pulled off a great performance and only a fan would realize the mix-up.

  • These are all wonderful Frans - thank you so much.

    Wend

  • Thanx Frans, this is sooo good!!

    The One And Only Dusty!!!!!

  • Wherever you are finding these please do carry on!! :0)
