This movie is slanderous to Illinois. Especially near the Chicago metropolitan area because there are immigrants from all over the world. People are not beat up in school for being an arab immigrant. They should have set it in a different state or area where it's more believable.

@eujeeves I did not know that, but the film is based in suburban Chicago, while the website says it related to the directors life in rural Illinois. Chicago area is not the same as rural Illinois. I just don't want my city to be associated with discrimination like this because it has one of the biggest Arab and ethnic populations in the country and is very friendly to different people and cultures.

@zOMGLaserGunzPewPew Everyone needs to understand that the film was set in a context of post-911 and during the American invasion in Iraq (2002-2003). I'm pretty sure that most of the western world would have been in a state of uncertainty or fear toward 'arabic' looking people. So maybe people of surbaban Chicago aren't like that, but this film is not trying to show that they are, it is trying to show the absence of belonging within a foreign land, and the obstacles that come with it.

This is a movie all immigrants and their chidlren should watch together and learn. Also recommended for people trying to study acculturation. This movie applies to all modern day immigrants not just those from a certain country. Kudos to the producers.
