Ah, I love the way Starfighters sound! That wailing noise is like some wild banshee or something. Is that the noise from the "variable stators" that I've heard mentioned? Also, does anyone know why the F-104 makes that strange noise at time when it's taxiing? The "Moose Call"...it's different from the wail it makes in flight. I've heard it's something to do with the intake, and that it's from the J79, but I've never heard an F-4 make that sound, just the F-104. It's bugged me for months! =/

Beautiful sound eh? I remember first time I ever heard it on a hilltop on a vacationspot in Italy during the 80´s... The F104 flew right over me. Only 7 years old, I fell in love with that sound there and then. Always loved the sound of the RM6B in Swedish J35 Draken, but the J79 is just... music.

I`m sure they didn`t. I get a chuckle out of golfers that need absolute silence while they`re making a shot; I used to think nothing of playing while a two ship of Hornets would be taking off runway 03 in burner and banking right over my head.

Thanks for the memories Doug. That unique CF-104 sound was my alarm clock for three glorious years 81-83 The whoop as they were run up prior to take off started my day in Hugie.

Another great vid dugystube! Overhead break and approaches on RWY21, given the fact you filmed it from the Baseball fields that existed northeast of the RWY. Great clip! Lived in Germany from 79-83 as a base rat! Of course moved on and joined the Infantry...104's were gone by then in 86!
