Long time ago I remember a man at AstroWorld it was an amusment park in Houston TX making little oil derics and animals, well when I became disabled from a muscle disease years ago I pick up doing glass etching an carvin and I am very good at it but I alway wanted to take my glass art to a new level so my question is this, Where can I find glass rods like you are using and is it real glass rods are like a lexan ?
@ke5glb I know this post is 5 months old, so perhaps you have found the rods now, but a simple search for glass bead making rods will get you the results you need. Most sites that carry the rods for that also carry rods for this. Hope that helps :)
He is not wearing gloves because he doesnt need to...Glass is a poor conductor of heat so the heat doesnt transfer all the way through the rod..I do this same type of work. He is very good at it.
Nice. i like how you avoid shaping the body, and that base you spun out real fast is tight. i am going to go try that quick base right now. thanxs man
@MediasNotFoolingMe Glass has poor thermal conductivity. Gloves are useless and if you wear gloves, I immagine you have less control over your workpiece and you are more likely to screw up.
No need for gloves. hand get used to heat after a while. in fact i offten have to be carefull handing people hot dishes and what not because i dont feel just how hot they are anymore and have handed people plates too hot for them to hold, and i didnt feel hardly any heat.
Respond to this video... for intracate glasswork such as this gloves get in the way - one of the hazards of the job - since the only gloves that would give decent protection are big heavy leather ones.
@MediasNotFoolingMe You can't spin the glass and it is more likely to slip out of your hand. Also Glass is a terrible conductor or heat, it won't spread heat throughout the piece like metal would.
is veari interesting

It is a real shame people can't narrate anything, They always place shit music as a background.
Thankfully there is a MUTE feature to block out that CRAP.

You would regret wearing gloves when the piece slips out of your hands and into your lap.

Well most people don't wear gloves while doing this. Reduces accuracy.
