Haven't seen an FLD episode in a long while! Anyhow, Allan McNish is a guy who knows what the hell he's talking about when it comes to racing. That was a great episode with lots of great insight. It's also one of the reasons why I consider myself more into simulation racing games and racing simulators more than I do almost any arcade racer.
Excellent episode! If you can get more great drivers on your show to teach us sim lemmings some cool tips, then by all means DOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU MR. MCNISH!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol Leo, youe age is showing not in your hair, but in what you called the track. It hasn't been called "Sears Point" for a long time now haha. Remember Leo, its Mazda Raceway now :)
@LeoParente Nothing to do with the previous comment lol. But..
Leo, that was seriously one of the best shakedown episodes that I've seen, and with the man himself Allan McNish, you can't go wrong. As time goes on, even though I'm sure you guys already have thought about doing this, it would be great to get input from different drivers from different backgrounds so that there can be different perspectives on how to go about racing on a track and improving their skills.
@jjhoops023 23 years old and guess what? I still reffer to it as Sears Point myself. Also, Its "Infineon Raceway" you are reffering to in Sonoma, California. Mazda Raceway (or as I still stubbornly call it, Laguna Seca Raceway) is in Monterrey, California.
Lol all my older cusins used to pick on me and call me a runt when I was little.... now I'm 6'4 who's laughing now!!!!!!!!!!!! lol sorry I had to say it
@funfrmekik Weak ass try, fun'wtf'. Dis z nt even close to funny. And if you are seriously doubting, holy sh*t, pee into the cup so we can check what's up with your life.
Allan McNich? I call him Allan McAwesome! great job in getting him on the show, Leo. you really seem to know to get some racing stars to get on the show. guys like McNish, Magnussen, Muller, and of course, Mr. Amazing himself, Sebastian Vettel. i mean, Sebastian freaking Vettel! that is awesome stuff, Leo. that's why Shakedown is by far and a ways my favorite part of FLD (no offense, Derek D) anyway, great show, keep up the awesomeness Leo, and hope for Vettel to win at Suzuka this weekend. :)
@GrandPrixKing62 Thanks. a] As I've always said each part / player of FLD has a role in making this thing rock. b] Great SD / FLD partners like SimRaceway and relations with the likes of Infiniti, BMW, Corvette, etc. make things happen. So, it's all good, right? Right!
all i have to say is Allan seems to have one of the best atitudes when it comes to drivers and i have never seen anyone who can handle the car at the absolute limit like he does for as long as he does, definetly one of the greatest drivers ever
Leo is shorter than Alan? I didn't know that was possible!
I have met Alan and Frank Biela in the bathrooms (next to the hot pits) at Sebring during the 12hr. Of course I let them in front of me in the line for the bathroom stall. I figured they might be in more of a hurry than I was.
That's why Sebring 12hr is so near and dear to my heart. I have so many autogrphs because of that race. (Tip: If you speak German, do so near any of the German teams/drivers, they will hang out with you!)
@ojcbest people on TV are TAUGHT to move their hands by media managers so the people talking can pretend they are really interested in what they are talking about.
Indeed McNish has done a lot, but i noticed Leo didn't mention his time in F1, listing all his sports car/Le Mans wins.
I know he was only in the sport one or two years, but still, some will only know him from that, which is where i first heard of him (but i've heard about him in Le Mans etc several times since).
@tanner1ie The F1 reference to his resume got edited out of the script to allow for more video time with Allan's words. But, HE raced for Toyota and I once worked FOR Toyota USA. Our T-times were, apparently, similar experiences and summed up with a shared set of 'what-could-you-do' laughs and 'I know what you went through' fist bumps. Then, we moved on to other more productive topics.......
if i ever met him i wouldnt know what to do with myself his my hero I remember in the documentary truth in 24 he talked through one lap and just the passion he had was like no other
@pouria121 Check out the SD PlayList from 10/05/11 this past Wed. THAT is video 5 in the PlayList. See how good things happen IF you watch all the FLD stuff we spit out? Go ahead and find it on the FLD YT Channel page + watch. I'll wait here.........
@LeoParente I already saw it sorry to keep u waiting I was busy. Also I do watch both. It is insane to realize how much this show and FLD have matured and evolved. Just for the record you guys have interviewed Sebastian Vettel and Allan McNish! that's just mind boggling!
@vicbel Uh, yeah! Thanks. And thanks to our partners like Infiniti and SimRaceway for making stuff like that happen. Plus, we've had others, too. Rick Mears, the BMW + Corvette guys, Kevin Kalkohven IndyCar owner, a ton of auto execs at the auto shows, and I know I'm missing some..... JF with Leena..... More planned.
@24Starflyer Forza is made by Turn 10, secondly you haven't yet played the final version of Forza 4 so you can't have a valid opinion on the matter, and finally, GT5 has a better physics engine than all Forza's thus far, and in my opinion, all console games thus far. @24Starflyer Did the person who created forza win a class victory in the 2011 24 hours of nurburgring? i think kaz (creator of gt series) knows more about driving than ANYONE at turn 10, besides, ive played all the forza's except 4, and they all feel like nfs underground compared to any GT game. GT's physics are so great, that it actually serves as a base to recruit real racing car drivers. Did you hear? GT5 racer lucas ordonez was hired straight from playing gt5 and podiumed le mans, nuff said.
@peeps2142 Not to argue about video games on a car channel but Ordonez started out racing go karts its not only because of his playing Gran Turismo 5 that he placed well at Le Mans. Just pointing that out.
@YawnGod One of the few of your comments I'm going to read. Hope it doesn't dissappoint. Jeez! Let me know what you thought of it.
PS - YawnGod asking a girl out -. "You're one of the few babes in this bar I'm going to talk to + ask out. See how special I'm being 2 you? Hope you don't dissappoint. HEY, where you going?" / "See? She WAS a bitch."
@LeoParente I can't believe you guys actually bothered to re-post the comment under a different name. Probably it would have seemed unpro for FLD to have authored it but you still wanted me to read it. Curious.
Anyway, I'll let you know what I think. Firstly, disappoint has 1 "s". Secondly, and I've made this point before, remember two years ago when almost everyone hated your segment? I didn't; I liked it then, and now, when everyone likes it, I still do. And lastly...girls ask me out. MFW.
Leo Or anyone else, What do you think about the crash at petite Le Man between the Audi, Peugeot and Porsche. Racing incident or should the Peugeot kept his line??
i'm sorry but i'm going with saying the Peugeot should have kept his line and he mad the crash happen, but im up for discussion
@ARCHERLM So, the chat with Alan about the crash did not make the edit. Here's the abridged version of what we discussed. Pug racer told Audi he was on the 'wrong tires' + really slow vs the R18 on fresh, fast, correct compounds. SO, each racer felt compelled 2 make the most of their situation - Pug 2 defend, Audi 2 go. Dr. U was hard on Pug for the move. In debrief, sympathy was more balanced. Takes 2 to crash. Traffic was bad, the race was winding down. As Alan said, can't waste opps.
@deadleg6 Not true. As I said, SimRaceway made Alan avail, had a camera crew + I thought it better than doing another greenscreen studio show having been AT the race.
Pug team WAS somewhat conversational. BUT, they really were acting 'head-down, 'leave us alone, we are focused' 2 defend their 2010 Petit win + win the 2011 ILMC championship. Seemed the 908 had a touch more raw speed, but tire compound matching 2 car + conditions was a huge factor on who had speed. Pug won. I got it!
Alan McNish is well on the way to being one of those eternal driving figures, worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the Stewarts Laudas and other legacy names, and with insights like this it's easy to see why. He's more than just the fleshy bit behind the wheel of the car, he truly is the final piece, the biological lynchpin in a precision engineering exercise that is a racing car.
I love Allan McNish. He's so enormously under-rated.
