  • This album came out on the short lived label Beverly Glenn along w/ Anita Baker's first album The Songstress I believe.

  • @LeBoulevardier (You are correct. Also Bobby Womacks "The Poets' LP (with If you think you're lonely now, and the duet with Patti LaBelle - Love Has Finally Come At Last). Anita Bakers former group - Chapter 8, also recorded for the label without her, while she was signed solo).

  • It took me so long to find this song,Thank U whoever put this on.Johnnie is sorely missed!!! I know just what he is talking about.Beautiful Song!!!!

  • Sometimes history has a way of repeating itself and i am hopeful that music will eventually go full circle to get back to music like this.I really hate the turn music has taken over these last few years and getting tired of being told if i want good music, i have to search for it. Are you serious??

  • I'm in love with a woman that's doing me the same way yall. Song like this is more spiritual nowadays because todays music is dead!

  • I think more than people will like to admit, many of us have felt this way. I have and this song came out during that time. But he paved the way for someone so much more deserving!

  • Dallas, TX is not the same without you. We miss you and the great music you gave us....R.I.P. JT

  • The 9 people that dislike this song probably think that Lil' Wayne is a musical genius!

  • My favorite Johnny Taylor tune is (Soul Filet) One of the Bad Brothas back in the day.A really great time to grow up,Great Music,Great Songs & most of all alot of Great Singers.Classic Ol' School. What about my Love & urs to & for Ol' School!

  • BOTH OF Y'ALL ARE SO RIGHT...MR. TAYLOR IS A CLASSICAL SINGER IN THE AMERICAN IDIOM - ONE OF THE GREATEST SMOOTH ARTISTS OF ALL TIME!!!!! THANKS...

  • Lola's Theme!

  • Just magnificent. Hard to put into words. Talk about throwing down the gauntlet to those singers who need autotune. Mr Taylor only needs a microphone.

  • This song makes me want to DIE and go to music heaven!!! It's so GOOOD!!!! AAAAH! SMH

  • JOHNNIE TAYLOR ... WAS THE BEST THAT'S EVER DONE IT 2 ME... I DON'T KNOW WHAT THESE UNTALENTED FARTS ARE DOING TODAY.... FREE MONEY WOW! J.T. WAS THE BEST R@ B VOCALIST EVER!

  • Great song. You do everything you can, and it *just ain't good enough". Beverley Glen was a great label that gave JT a n opportunity ot stretch out with some great musicians.

  • ha ha still can't believe he is my uncle and i was name other him but my name is tyron davis not tyrone davis

  • @davistyron (That's cool that Tyrone is your uncle. He was a great singer. But this is Johnnie Taylor). I think you got them mixed up. But I do have a song and video of your uncle posted in my channel.

  • Wow. Lola's Theme

  • This is music of the soul!

  • I bought this album back in 1983. My sister and I loved Johnnie Taylor. Also, everytime I look at this cover, he reminds me of my uncle, (who's house I would go to and play music). The smile, the hat and his style of dress. My uncle was one of the most wonderful men that I've know in my life and I miss him so much. I am grateful to have had him and this music in my life. A wonderful and beautiful song and lovely memories!!!!!!!

  • i love this song.especially jt

  • What a nice song!!

  • I love it,BABY MAKING MUSIC!!

  • Lolas theme haha

  • Does anyone know how I can get a copy of this? Please help!

  • @thrillmenva if you go on the site Discogs you will find a few copies for sale of his album with this killer tune on them hope this helps ! good luck

  • love it

  • notice the similar sound to Anita Baker's Songstress album and Bobby Womack's Poet II. (think 'love has finally come at last' w/P. Labelle). This is superb production from such a small label at the time.

  • I agree. They also did a CD for Chapter 8 (without Anita) and the production was nice. I think Anita said "Otis" ripped her off. So I don't know if Johnnie and Bobby were in the same situation. But I enjoy all three of their projects. I think Patrick Moten was involved with all three projects. They were very nice (considering the small label). Thanks for posting...

  • The cd is called This love's for real. I have it in my cd collection and you're right! it sounds like the aforementioned. I always thought 'just ain't good enough' should have been a regular 8-cut album with less filler material. Nevertheless, this Cd is worth owning just for 'what about my love' and 'im so proud'.

  • LOL. It's funny that you say the Johnnie CD is worth owning just for those two cuts. That's the only reason I own the CD. Some CD's are worth the one or two songs alone. I own the Capital "Chapter 8" CD for just the one song "Give Me One More Chance" and I own the Skyy CD "Real Love" just for the two cuts "Start of Romance and Real Love. It's a nice CD but I forget the other cuts. Yet, I love every cut on the two Rhonda Clark CD's and her Cd only had one minor hit (State of Attraction). LOL

  • I'm with you on all except the Chapter 8 'Forever' CD. I love that cd! I got one in 1988, scratched it up, bought two vinyl copies in 1992, and finally got another cd in 1999 (only $4 at the time). I understand why the album wasn't a hit, but it's a gorgeous adult contemporary R&B album.

  • Ok. Now I've got to go back and listen to the Chapter 8 cd from capital. Have you heard the solo song that Valerie Pinkston (from Chapter 8) had on the movie "Trick" soundtrack. Type in Valerie Pinkston and Trick of Fate. It's a great song. She has an awesome voice.

  • @thejukejoint I heard a highly entertaining with Bobby Womack on UK radio in the 80s where he claimed he took a shotgun into Otis Smith's office and demanded the master tapes, presumably because he felt he was being ripped off. He said he only got hold of them by calling the studio on the phone and pretended to be Otis Smith, instructing the engineers to had over the masters to BW.

  • A beautiful soulful blast from the past!

They don't sing them like this anymore....

  • I could live inside this song...Perfection!

  • ill b 28 this yr i rember my pops bumpin johnnie after he come home from tobos in long beach when i was a kid

  • In my memories, I had this song pegged at around 1980, but now I know it was '82 or '83. The radio jock did say Johnnie Taylor, but I never caught the title. The intro of this song has haunted me ever since. Ironically, I've been DJ'ing ever since and am just now finding this song! Thanks!

  • Beautiful classic soul..LOVE IT!

  • Just in case anyone is interested...

this was also released on a 45 on the Beverley Glen label from 1982.

Superb choon and one I managed to pick up a few years back. One of the longest running 45's I have at nearly 5 mins long!

    Glorious !!

  • this song was played on 106.3 in chicago last year. Almost had an accident trying to figure out the artist. The radio station did not have a call list for the public, they do now.....

  • If i had this on vinyl back in the day, this song would have been worn out! This song is amazing, this is my 9th time playing it today!

  • Lola's song used the musc from this song. Just Beautiful

  • Thiz song wot a voice, the words fantastic ,gives me goosebumps luv it

  • Lola's Theme...

  • @hellrideryah Shapeshifters did, they took a sample of the intro, and we now have Lola's Theme.

  • whoops, that reply was meant for TheOldschoollover

  • @HoppyVegas Yeah and that shit is a mess...

  • i'm 43 and grew up in texas. man i still bump all this music today. i use to ride with my uncles when i was 13 or 14 years old and they would be bumping this. damn people this is soul music.johnny taylor is a classic. it reminds me of the old school juke joints back home in texas. the women in there would yell every time the juke box played this jam. damn i miss those days.these artists are no longer with us today and they can't be replaced. the music now is so bad. go ahead and call me old.

  • @str8outtatexas1 ok, you are old!!

but all you said is totally true and correct! and I agree with every single written word! so, that makes me old as well! :))) but I'm only 32.... and living in central europe.... ;)

  • GREAT MUSIC.

  • Love This Tune!!...x

  • I spent all day playing this over and over just wonderfull!

  • Pure Class :)

  • if you love this then listen to the version by damaris..if it aint on you tube ill post it this week

  • Yes Damaris version is of a very high caliber, though this version, feat. Patrick Moten's symphonically captivating arrangement edges it in my opinion.

  • Proper!

  • Su feckin perb!!

  • ex fecking sactly xx

  • ha feckin hahahahahahaha

  • thanks for the smooth groove

  • It still feels so strange listening to that intro after first hearing the Shapeshifters use of it... I love it though!
