It's not easy to post this and I pondered it a short while, but his fans/viewers need to know. Wade was recently diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and is currently undergoing medical treatment to begin his battle with it. Wade could use your prayers and support more than ever. I pray for his triumph in defeating it and a full recovery.
@rubyflipper I also was so glad to hear that Wade's surgery went much better than expected. That's not to say we can all rest & relax, but only a sign that our prayers were heard and that Wade needs continuous thoughts & prayers to fully overcome this unfair disease. I agree too, Wade's performance of Wichita Lineman is the absolute best out there!
I love this version as well as the original. My younger cousin also liked it, so I gave her my cd single because I intended on buying the new album. When the CD came out it did not contain the single. I've been counting youtube ever since.
the original by Glen Campbell is still the best but I will give Wade Hayes props for keeping to the original sound to this song and would be a great addition to any Glen Campbell tribute album ....May GOD by with you Glen in your battle with alzheimers
Love the video! This song has always reminded be of the hard working guys who we often take for granted everytime we flip a light switch. Here's to you IBEW!
NOBODY!!!!!! sings this as good as Wade does. Nobody sings anything as good as Wade does. He could sing Twinkle, Twinkle little star and I would buy it. I miss country music .
@yaisum I saw Wade live many times in the mid to late 90's in the country clubs. Awesome baritone voice! You need to look up "The Day She Left Tulsa"..great song!
@TheBigjake04 sadly this song never made it to an album. This from wiki....In 1997, Wade Hayes released a cover version, which peaked at #55 on the U.S. country music charts. It was to have been included on an album titled Tore Up from the Floor Up, but due to its poor chart performance, the album was delayed. That album was finally released in 1998 as When the Wrong One Loves You Right, with the "Wichita Lineman" cover excluded
It's good but you cant beat the original . You rarely can - as lets face it - the original is normally sung by the one who wrote it. Its a personall thing.
Does anyone know which album this was on. I heard it years ago and I've been trying to find it on Itunes but can't. I used to be a lineman in Wichita Falls.
no, this song was never on any of wade's albums. there was a dispute over the copyrights. at least that's what was released to the public. but i think it is one of his best songs. too bad it wasn't released :(

I have always loved Wade's voice, so smooth and mesmerizing, and it rings clear in this version of a beloved classic. I am so glad he's back on the scene!
@gordiesumner: The song was released to radio for only a couple of weeks. There was some kind of dispute with the record company about copyrights I think. I don't know for sure if it was even released on an album. Most definately an awesome version. Much better than the original...although I love the original also.
Wade has made a terrific comeback of the old witchita Lineman, and with that great voice so easy to listen too, I look forward to hearing more of his songs.
@Weasel699 It was to be the first single on his third album, originally titled "Tore Up From the Floor Up." But "Wichita Lineman" failed to chart, and the album was delayed. "The Day That She Left Tulsa (in a Chevy)" was released, reached No. 5, and the album was released, now retitled "When the Wrong One Loves You Right." ... This cover is so well done, it's shocking to me that it didn't register at all on the country charts. Don't know what people were thinking in 1997.
@GoldenGaleStables So true, his version is just incredible. It's incomprehensible to me why it didn't chart. I often don't know what people think when it comes to music. His McHayes single "It Doesn't Mean I Don't Love You" also should have gone high on the charts, it's far superiour to most stuff out there. But yet, "She's Rockin' the Beer Gut" made it to #1. Go figure! Sigh.
Wade has a new CD out called Place to Turn Around. You can get it on itunes or at Amazon, or you can order from his official website. It's a great CD and it is so good to hear him again!
Yes,whoever posted this, thank you very much.Been a fan of wade's since he came out.Puts on a great live show.Hope to see him again someday, but since he isn't what is considered "hip" in what passes for music in Nashville today.gonna be awhile before that happens
I have literally been waiting for years for this video - I've only seen it one other time - and that was back when it first came out. While I was able to find and download the song, my desire to see the video never went away! I must say that Wade Hayes' version is Hauntingly Beautiful. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...to whoever uploaded this!!!
I loved this song when Glenn Campbell did it, I love it even more with Wade's incredible voice. I'm so surprised this song never charted. It would have been one of his biggest hits.
A really great cover to a timeless song... the shot at 1:34...people driving by a guy on a pole...never noticing/thinking about the family separation and/or loneliness of that poor sap...what I think is the core of this song...
@SolarTiger why do you say poor sap? the guy is just out doing you as service keep your lights on? so from a fellow lineman to you i quote "you can clearly go fuck yourself"
@BRooo28...Woooa....I apologize profusely....I don't think that guy on the line is a "sap"...it was in context to the Vacation to Cali drive-by car in the video...Trust me...I'm a blue collar fellow that understands working hard...I'm sorry for the wrong wording!!!
SolarTiger: I understood what you meant and wish nobody had taken it personally. I've been that "poor sap" myself, working on holidays, long nights, etc., while everybody else is relaxing, home with family, whatever. I realize it wasn't meant to be an insult.
Have loved Glen Campbell's original version of this song since it was first released. This, though, is the best version I've heard since that original. Wade's rich voice & faithfullness to the original mood and tempo makes this very near Campbell's. Well done, Wade!
He was not trying to sing like Glen Cambell, He was singing it with his voice. If you want to hear Glen sing it watch that video! I think Wade does a pretty damned good job on this song!
I always loved this as a Glen Campbell song but Wade just brings it home for me. This has always been a fav of Wade's for me. Such a silky but masculine voice. Love, love, love him.....
dwight yokum is not the original it was glen campbell and they are both great different artists different ways of doing it i think wades voice may be a little stronger but thats about it .
Thanks so much for posting this video. It was recorded near my home in Montana. Love Wade Hayes and love this song. I've been looking for this video forever. God bless you!!!
