The kids and parents of that school need to join together under that flag pole, take down the US flag, and raise a NAZI flag in its place, because THAT is exactly where we are headed if this kind of shit isn't stopped.
Every one of those school administrators should be tried as pedophiles - because I can think of NO other purpose for such a thing.

Easy to fix, first of all unscrew it and pull the wires, or the cheaper and better one: DUCT TAPE!
For any pro computer user this is useless to even try, all that happens is really bad PR.

without her permission.
The woman, Dianna Annunziato of North Richland Hills, originally called Dell Computer's customer support line after 9:30 pm because her new PC was having issues and was still under warranty. However, the online service call came to an abrupt halt.

I think everyone is over reacting a little to what their MAIN said purpose was here.
I think the idea was great and I do it myself for my laptop and i'd happily allow my college to do the same thing with their laptops.
Now, OF COURSE it can be used in a BAD way, of course with the girl changing etc. But think of the main POINT here.
I see so many laptops get stolen at college, I think it should be used all the time, however remote viewing should be done in an observed environment.

The activation of the camera by remote does not have to be a feature. If the schools claim was to locate stolen computers, GPS is all you need.

Invasion of privacy should never be legal. You say think of the main point but why would you believe anything that they say, Is it because you grew up believing that Government and state as well as institutions of the state such as educational facilities are always honest? Just because an alibi is logical dosen't mean that it is honest. Noone is over reacting..if you give them one inch they will stretch it one Mile.

you have to be a dumb ass to not see the green light on a mac turn on. i have one, and if it ever turned on without me doing so i would disconnect from the internet soooo fast... and thats also what people have to understand, is that PC's and even macs(as much as i hate to admit it) arnt virus and hacker proof, and if you have a webcam, it should be DISCONNECTED when not in use, or in the cam with a laptop, the case should be shut if its not on your lap.

i didnt mean for it to come off like that. i simply meant was that you have to be security conscious, not matter your age or how tech savy you are. considering that we rely on computers for everything(and im not criticizing, i would die without my computer) you have to be aware of what your computer is doing. if the webcam is obviously on and you didnt do it, there is something wrong. if you files are moving themselves around, something is askew. you just have to be careful was all i was saying.

If you have been on a computer for more than 10 minutes of your life, you should know this: once the software for it is deleted and and it is "unplugged" in your control panel there is no way to get it back on unless you install software and enable it again. And seeing the school only had access to the web cam they would not be able to restore these actions remotely. If they told students about this access, the students can only blame themselves for not turning it off or changing in front of it

I work in a public school system run by fundies.(board, admin and faculty). I hope I'm wrong on this but I could see my school district doing something like this. I went to this District's web site to see if I could find any personal stuff on the board members but nothing we on their site. I hope I'm wrong on this. The FBI will get to the bottom of this with their investigation. I think the theft tracing issue is a smoke screen.

haha you think this is scary. the FBI and CIA keeps eyes on EVERYONE. The Patriot act passed by George Bush allows the gov't to listen to your phone call, search your online activities, etc. Have you seen the google earth sattlelite? now you can see almost anywhere with 360* real life picture view. And if civilians can have access to that kind of stuff, it's no brainer to say "privacy" is an illusion. It's not Christians (idk where u got this idea to begin with), or any group that we should fear

I work in the South, in a public school system that is governed, run and taught by Christian fundies. I see through those kind of glasses now. Since Penn was the state where a school board tried to push Creationism in science classrooms, I figured this might be the same kind of group, a group that doesn't like to follow the rules and do what they want. Call it paranoia on my part. I hope I'm wrong to link the two.

Well, I guess life would be a lot easier if u just ignore the fact that you have no freedom or privacy. i think you may be familiar with the so called "new world order conspiracy theory." Anyways, the basic idea is that the one with power (gov't) put fear in people to make them willingly submit their sovereignty. This is just display of how fearful our society have become and willing to do such a "stupid" thing to keep things way they want to be.

I'm guessing it was just one of those ignorant old teacher who was just introduced to new tech and didn't have second thought on actually trying it out. I think that theft tracing bs is just their excuse after they realize it was just so wrong in my ways.
