You missed another nasty hit. Steve Ott Submarined Carlo Colaiacovo on Saturday. He left the game with an Upper body injury. I haven't seen any updates on his health, so hopefully he'll be good to play. I'm just happy it's not an knee injury.
you can't say we're playing shit yet. when we haven't seen kessel yet and gustavsson play at 100 percent. and to those saying we not getting a first round pick this year. we already did (kessel). and you never know the low picks can be very good(if we're lucky), look at datsyuk. I know I sound like Burke. but it's true. and we're one of the most unlucky team, because we basically had the same team last year but with a hyped up defense and we're doing worst. HOW COULD WE BE DOING WORST!!!!!!!!?
Because Brian Burke is trying to make the ducks elsewhere but failed miserably..Nobody can make something decent out of the leafs sadly..Komisarek was just plain horrible & stupid with the habs and he went & signed him for twice as much as he should be worth, and Kessel is not gonna make much difference..Even if you had Crosby or Ovechkin in yout team, you still need more players than that to win. They need good chemistry & a good coaching staff too..
There's been talk about us trying to get J.S Giguere...I really don't see that helping...especialy after the bloop he let in last game. I'm not saying he's bad, but we have too many goalies to begin with, and he's not doing to well.
I'm saying they both suck but not winning since 67 is way more pathetic. YOUR STANLEY CUP PHOTOS ARE IN BLACK AND WHITE!!??!! I think your bragging rights expired about 20-25 years ago
how is not winning for 3 more years way more pathetic. Also the leafs made way more playoffs appearances then the canucks from 1970 to now if you already didn't know. also in 1967 there were colour pictures. and if you think the leafs suck watch my toronto maple leafs.
I'm a big fan of your work Steve, and I think ur hilarious and ver knowledgable about hockey. I am a Flyers fan and I am just interested in what exactly u thought was dirty about the Mike Richards hit. Imo i thought it was a pretty legit hit.
Watching the replay, it seemed late, but I'm not sure how late it was. In terms of that, it's either clean or inconclusive. But the head-hunting bugged me. Looking at Richard's form heading into the hit, he was not bracing for a shoulder to shoulder hit, IMO. His stance would have been more upright, rather than forward. That, and he decked the head preeeetty cleanly. Some say Booth should have been looking , and they're right, but I thought it was a head shot. That said, I'm a Richards fan
Thanks for the reply steve. I love how you take time to answer ur fans' questions. I do have to say, however, that Scott Stevens made a career of shoulder to head hits (i.e. Lindros, Kariya) but nobody ever called him out on it. I'm glad that u and I both can appreciate the talent and grit of a true hockey player. :) Keep up the good work.
they must win the next 4 games this week...if they dont im taking down the flag and putting up the Brasilian flag and wait for world cup till it starts
I think what he was trying to say was the Canucks started then, and that's why their streak is shorter... I still say it's worse than the Leafs, but not much worse.
Komisarek has had an inauspicious start here, but I agree, he really has improved, as has most of the rest of the team. The Leafs were good, but Luongo has returned to form. And that double-minor from White, followed by that Interference call on Luke Schenn... I mean 6 straight minutes of penalties, they're most likely going to score.
One thing about the game... I couldn't stand it when Stempy broke in on net and shot it wide!
komisarek ! we miss u here in montreal... taking bad penalty and score in your home goal haha u say leafs fan will love mike .. but u know he is not that good..
I am fully aware of that. That does not change the fact that The Leafs' cup drought is longer. The Canucks have also had more playoff success since then with 2 cup finals appearances as opposed to 0 for the Leafs.
No idiot. The drought is longer because the Canucks have only been in the league since some time in the 70's. Do the math Knuckle head. Actually thats pretty sad. The Leafs have been losers for longer than the Canucks have existed. OUCH!!
how is it sad if the leafs didn't win a cup longer then the canucks have existed. the canucks were in the nhl since 1970, the leafs haven't one a cup since 1967. you call 3 years sad.
also shark15 said it is only fair to compare two teams together when they both existed, so canucks and leafs no cup drought would be 0-0 from 1970 to now, if we were to compare before canucks existed it would be canucks no cup since 1970 and leafs no cup since 1967, but then again leafs won 14 cups before 1968 (14 more then canucks)
It isn't fair to compare the number of cups of an original 6 team and a much younger team. It would only be fair to compare the number of cups since both teams have existed. Therefore since 1970. By the way, the canucks have been to the cup finals twice since 1970, which is not something the leafs can say.
the vancouver defenseman cleared the puck out of the crease with his glove at one point--should have been an automatic penalty shot. might have been a diffrent game altogether
We have out-played the opponent in 3 games...but Price, Lundqvist and Luongo were unbeatable...and our goalies were just so-so.
This is going to be a long season...Komisarek may be the most over-paid player in the entire NHL..he hasn't been the same since Lucic beat him like a circus monkey.
They looked good on paper, and they still do...my opinion is based on the fact that they have played like shit..no offense, poor goaltending, bad defense and an anemic pk...your opinion was based on a guess.
Your team hasn't been that great either....just no where near the stink level as the Leafs.
the team was bad at the begining of the season because it took time for all the new players to learn to play with each other, now they do & look at the results..4 win streak so far, Cammalleri is a beast, Gionta too. Plekanec is doing great, Bergeron is awesome on the powerplay. The team was bad at the begining of the season but now everything's changed..Lets just hope your leafs come out of this misery, i had fun watching it for a bit but honestly i cant help feel bad at a certain point..
I can't argue against any of those points...especially the move Burke made for Kessel...that was an unforgivable trade, two first round picks for a player of his calibre is unheard of...then a second round pick thrown in for good measure...awful.
I am surprised that your team has played decent w/o Markov..I thought they would suck balls w/ him gone, but Bergeron has stepped right in admirably.
I think the problem w/ the coaching staff, is that they have historically been a defense-first staff..and now they have been asked to be the opposite..w/ shit forwards and a defense who is primarily a defensive unit, except for Kaberle, who oddly enough has been our best defensive d-man....
I'll tell you who is having fun watching this "misery"...Peter Chiarelli...he'll be sending Kessel a Christmas card this December.
I think the Leafs will do better when they get a break from the officials calling everything against the Leafs and basically nothing against the other team. I saw at least 5 interference plays, 2 too many men and the glove over the puck in the crease, should have been called. And even some of the calls against the Leafs were questionable, Primeau hit the guy in the side, the guy just twisted to make it look like a hit from behind, and a double minor for highsticking? hardly any blood, if any.
well said dude that was total bullshit and any one who thinks otherwise is an unsensible dimwit!!! Ref's are making it worse for the Buds. Those ref's must've been from BC!!
yeah well it's always like that when you're a fan from a certain team..Bottom line is, fers have no preferences, leafs are horrible. No excuses, Period. Komisarek should have about 20 more penalties this year but hey! he dosen't..
Of course nobody wants to talk about all high and mighty Ovechkin's faults. Hes just so fun to watch and entertaining! Hes So Pure! No Dirty hits ever or anything!
the reply makes it look like its interference.. I didn't see the game only the replay.. I never thought of richards being a dirty hitter. I doubt he meant to hurt him.. but he's probably thinking twice about the hit now.
Actually we could of tied the game if the ref saw the Nuck player have the glove over the puck in the goalies crease. Hence a automatic Penalty shot. Besides that i think we could of won if we didn't take those dumb penaltys. Monday vs Anaheim please get a win!!!!!
Learn to spell jesus christ, Hanson is a winger and sending down our best center just because he cant win a draw? You must be semi-retarded. I would bring up Tlusty over those two any day, hes got the hot hands in the minors and could probably carry it over to the NHL if they called him up.
dude he isn't our best centreman because he can't win face offs if you cant win face offs, you aren't a good centerman. Tlusty did nothing in the preseason as bozak hanson and stalberg were red hot. Re unite that line scratch grabo and blake then call up tlusty
Ruutu's hit was illegal. It was up against the boards and nailed him right between the numbers from behind.
Richards hit was legal. He came from the side with his arm tucked in. It was unfortunate but it was legal and I really hope Booth makes a full recovery.
Problem really is that the NHL can't really do anything that it doesn't already do. There are already rules that go against headshots, e.g. intent to injure, but that doesn't help against incidental contact which is unavoidable in hockey
Mike Richards check was a little late, i will give you that, but it was clean. the elbow was tucked, the shoulder was in, he stayed on his feet, he stopped skating 3 strides away so there was no charge penalty, this check was very similar to the scott stevens lindros hit and it was overall a good check. no matter if you obliviouis to him or not, its hockey and you have to keep your head up and on a swivel at all times, especiallly when you are playing with the best players in the world
why dont they bench blake and grabosky.... blake... takes bad shots... and grabosky always loses the puck in the opponents zone cause he tries to stick handle his way through and tries to deke the entire team...
A game like yesterday...we have to talk .... but games resulting like the last 8 ... is a rough pill get down! but their still my team! <3 I jsut seen to see a win to build my faith in my team back up! COMMON LEAFS !!!
They need one more midseason threat. Maybe even a guy like Sergei Samsonov or maybe Olli Jokinen. Just one more guy who puts the points up when the rest of the leafs team plays good.
On the Mike Richards hit, it would have been clean had it been shoulder on shoulder contact. But two factors make it a dirty hit. One, it was blindside and two, it was a head-shot. Mike should receive 3-5 games due to the fact that he's built sort of a reputation for himself as "the guy who puts up a lot of points, but is really dirty two".
blindsided? booth was admiring his pass in the middle of the ice even tho it was shoulder to head its still booth's fault for just standing in the middle of the ice and admiring his pass
Keep your head up Steve. Beautiful day today and I predict that the Leafs will win their next game. Outside of this being the worst start to the season in their storied history, Leafs played good last night and they need to continue to play like that... only they need to win at the same time.
you'd throw the book at them? yes because most of the words in them are too hard to read!!! LMAO you are awesome, keep it up

Admiring a pass or not, you don't skate at a guy that is oblivious to your presence. It's not smart hockey.

Keep your head up Steve. Beautiful day today and I predict that the Leafs will win their next game. Outside of this being the worst start to the season in their storied history, Leafs played good last night and they need to continue to play like that... only they need to win at the same time.
