woha.. suprised with all those other fish they weren't eaten lol!! sorry but.. how do you keep your plants alive? all of mine decay really fast..( though grow new ones fast) still bugs me@_@)
I just bought my first wild peruvian today and she seems to be taking to the tank okay, if not a little lonely! it's just her and 2 corydoras in a 150L. I want to add cardinals but i am afraid she might eat them! did you have this problem? thanks
Maybe you are right, but they are known as Orinoco-Skalare in Zürich. This is a race with light blue-green colours on the body with brown spots, and they really come from the Orinoco river. The other bigger race is known as Altum-Skalar (Pterophyllum altum).
Hi Borabas, the fish in the aquarium would actually be Peruvian Altum (this is just a commercial name), they are Pterophyllum scalare, but originate from Rio Nanay in Peru. The confusion arises from the beautiful and lengthy fins which are similar to Pterophyllum altum of the Orinoco. take it from me, almost 30 years collecting Orinoco Altum in their nataural habitat.
Thank you lizamalia, you are right. The proper common name is spotted Peru angel in Switzerland. In aquarium shops they are often sold as Orinoco-Skalar (not Altum!), that's why I was mistaken.

I'm surprised with Angelfish there are any cardinals at all. My Angels made quite a snack of them.
