How do you rent an OS? I mean, sure you can rent features, but the basic OS has to be installed on your PC. I mean, without an OS, you can't run the computer. It's a basic component. Perhaps, you meant rent features rather than the entire OS/kernal.
wait wait , No offence ,but what has OSX really changed in the past ten years- and dont say "OH YOUR A WINDOWS FAN BOY!", well i am but i love my mac-also this dude is a fag ass douche, he doesnt know shit about computers... he probally browses the web all day watchin gay porn.
Somewhere along the line, Windows went from being the support software that makes your computer work and allows you to run other software, to being the "be all, end all" of owning a computer. Now the hardware and other software serve Windows instead of the other way around. What should be the computer equivalent of a theater stagehand, making sure that the show runs smoothly has turned into the 300 pound Diva who refuses to perform unless her dressing room has the right brand of imported water.
stupid video... no one wants to pay for a full ultimate windows its a stupid idea, to then select what you want is also a more complex issue, most people want some choice but would feel daunted by choosing what fetures sepratleyt they want. just sounds like just another rant from a apple fanboy (who will allways claim they arnt) just picking out real minor points at windows
Windows 95..Windows 95a Windows 95b Windows 95c...Windows 98..Windows 98SE...Windows Vista...Windows Mojave...Windows Vista SP1...If they actually finished a OS before putting it out there they wouldn't need to be so many versions XD
when i used to be a mac user what always pissed me off was finding programs, if i wanted to get a program for my imac g3 snow almost nothing worked on it because they were all for the newer mac os like 10.9.something or 10.this 10.that it was so frikkin annoying, if its osX it all programs that run on any kind of osX should run on all Osx since it was made, why i switched to windows was because the programs are much more compatible, even about 70% of win95 programs still work on 7 for me!
ha idk why there so many, and to get the one with all the stuff cost so much money? theres only two diffrent mac osx, personal and server. and the personal is cheap to upgrade too and still dosent cost much to get a new fresh one
what ever you buy digitally, you dont end up owning it. For about 5 years it owns you, and then it becomes/starts to become obsolete, and you stage an uprising and overpower your own hardware/os and buy a better one. Providing you can afford it, otherwise it continues to own you.
The future is in cloud computing. We will just eventually have a screen with internet access that will get everything from a server and you will buy the software you want. No install times. No waiting. it will just work. This will mean no piracy as well and no owner ship. Services like this are already available. Just look at OnLive gaming service. It is exactly that.
i think they did the naming wrong of the versonens what they needed to do was to name them like, notebook, laptop, desktop, gaming and extreme. this way you know what you are buying for and get the optimiced one you need. also if a buy a verson of windows i own a liecens to use the product, what i do not own is the uppdates and other stuff
the only reason i bought a mac was because of the quality of the product, the ability to run both os, you don't have to upgrade your whole computer to get the new os, and because of the customer service. but i like both os. but with windows i hate that i have to ask so many questions & compare them to see which one is right for me & with osx i just go pay my $30-$40 for one version & there is no fuss. there is a normal version and the server edition, only if you are running a network of macs.
So... Even though we bought our PC and then updated from Windows Y to Windows X, we dont own the OS? Now, while we dont own the name Microsoft or the name Windows, we do own a copy of said name. So... You lost me and Ive no idea what you mean. Sounded to me like the whole rent and download thing was Google Chrome inspired.
I am 50/50. I was a little mad at Microsoft because I had to get Windows 7 Ultimate to get the remote desktop tool when I could have been happy with everything in Home Premium except that.
On the other hand, when I got Adobe CS4 I went with the Master Collection (everything under the sun basically) even though I only needed Photoshop and Premiere Pro, because I figured over time I could learn the other features and make use of them.
I really hope it doesn't come down to annual licensing for Windows. If that happened, I would switch back to Ubuntu in a heartbeat. I prefer OSS anyway... Perhaps when that day comes there will be many more people developing and helping out with Linux as a whole. It's always interesting to try to guess what the future will hold. :)
with so many free/open software and so many apps being web-based, i don't understand why people would bother buying a copy...excuse me... RENTING a copy... of windows if they could get the same functionality from linux...i mean, ubuntu's shown that linux isn't just for geeks..
i thought maybe people are just too used to doing things the windows way and they just don't want to bother learning a new OS, but then i see so many people switching to OS X...
because of capitalism... they don't care about giving you what you need. they care about getting the most money out of people..
seriously.. there is no competition (on the desktop market at least). who is microsoft's rival? who are you going to turn to when you want an alternative to windows?? macs are even more expensive and restrictive... the public is pretty much screwed when it comes to OS selections...
its simple! one is for the businesses (business edition), one is for netbooks and tabs (starter), one is for the person who wants all the features (ultimate), and one is for the OEM computer manafacturer to put on all his devices for cheaps (home premium).
then all them need to have two versions x64 & x86 dependant on the ahrdware they are being installed on. and there you have 8 versions. microsoft is just covering all bases. stop worrying about it, and do a google search, QUESTION ANSWERED!

because they listen to the masses and make a new version that will be easier and better. and you have the choice if you want to upgrade or not. they have windows pro window home ect.. while mac basically you have the same thing no matter what, i have a mac with osx and a pc with windows vista, i enjoy both just as much but i enjoy being able to upgrade windows in i choose to
Windows 7 Home Premium (for most consumer bought PCs)
Windows 7 Professional (for a workstation)
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (for a server like PC)
By the way I disagree with Chris. If you had a small work environment (home office) with multiple PCs. You would need more than Home Premium. You would need at least one Ultimate Edition and several Professional editions. Netbooks lacks the hardware No one-size-fit-all
@Koffas Windows 7 Ultimate Edition is not for a server any one of those editions could be used as a server it's just the ulitimate edition has everything
I am disappointed in you Mr. Pirillo. Your fanboyness for Apple just takes away any creditability that you had. I used to enjoy watching your shows on TV but in all your recent online videos your arrogance and fanboyness makes them unbearable to watch. Seriously stop drinking the Apple koolaid for one second and think out both sides a little better.
it's gonna happen the same like music or movies and games are going that route as well....i hate it really because their is no physical sense of ownership but it is what it is
It's not quite like activation because most people never have to deal with activation. They buy a computer and it comes activated for them. So unless the OEM's pay this rental fee and not the consumer (at least, directly), they will care about it. Linux users will care about this too, because it will be the day that Linux finally has a fighting chance.
Chris, can you please use some compression on your audio? That would be amazing. I have to keep changing the volume. You yell some things, and whisper others.
You speak so enthusiastic! We all know that Microsoft usually creates the most user friendly softwares and operating system... But it just cost sometimes because of the license and usually we have to buy the software..
Perhaps Microsoft could market more than one version and it would usually be clear to the consumer which one is for them if only one version was available to any particular type of computer? For example, one version for servers and workstations, another for desktops & laptops, and another for handheld devices.
I also have often PC´s here to fix, because the Win Copy/Machine doesn´t work.
Who the Hell thought of Bundled - or Hardware limited - Software ?
I buy it, but i want to decide what i need and what i want - that´s the deal.
OS´s are like Women - Win only cares about ONE Machine and getting you confused - Apple cares about wheter you drive the car she likes - and Linux... well she doesn´t care as long as you do as you please ;-D
So, up until 5 years or so, we all were completely Win Users, but after a while, we got confused and got angry with the Service Win offered. Driver Nightmares and not working Games due to incompatibility after half a year old new hardware (seriously?)
So, then i got into Linux and OSX, now we have only ONE Remaining Win Laptop, but it´s only a matter of time until it runs the Penguin or OSX. Why?
Because it got what we need for ONE simple Price. (or none)
It´s not the Question whether OSX is better than XXX, it´s how the Marketing lvl sucks.
You see, for Linux, you don´t pay a thing, just the Hardware, and it does what you want IF you know what you do. And i bet every Win User has Linux installed as Main OS and Win for Gamin. Thus, Win sucks at every other aspect i can think off. The Products confuses the Consumer like Hell, and it isn´t clear what it offers. OSX just runs out of the Box, and shows Unix love - that´s how it is!
i have sold many copies of windows to customers and whats funny is that almost everyone comes in and asks for the most premium 'ultimate; version not really knowing the difference only that they want 'the best'. Whats that you may ask it's smart marketing.
The copies are called home, pro and ultimate not something and generic as A, B and C or else they would not sell as many high end versions
There are many versions, because technology changes! New things are found, new technology, like voice recognition. Have you seen windows 95 with speech recog? Nah, everything changes. Compare windows 95 to windows 7... New hardware, everything's WAY Faster then before, better colors, etc... That's why there are many versions...
My thoughts are... what is the point in direct x 11 if people are still going to be using 9.0c the funny thing is I'm yet to see a game that actually forces you to get windows 7 and that to me says that there isn't a need for it... also I hate how the security works on windows 7 it stinks if I ever get windows 7 I'll make sure to disable it
you know why they have so many, because they stole windows the real one from xerox and cant make there own and have to try to add to the first one by adding new graphics over 25 yrs later they cant do anything that is easy
@abs2fast2furios that has nothing to do with windows platform they stole it from xerox they had a working system and the company let gates look at it. so actually it wasnt ,look the movie up just like doss he stole it to and rip the maker off
@theroden Mac OS X only 1 (latest) version. Can be anyone's for only a small premium of $1000. Thats cheap compared to $800 gaming rigs loaded with windows?
i cuddle with a pillow and sometimes my xbox 360 controller depending on how hard i was gaming. hopefully sometime soon im gonna cuddle with a powerbook b4 with copy of leopard
The rental model sucks and it just too expensive when thinking of long term. Most people would rather pay a certain amount of money for OS software and not have to worry about it until the next major version. All the rental model will lead to is more piracy.
he's right about renting the OS. I mean have you ever noticed how either Microsft or Apple flip the hell out if the user wants to do something that they as a company don't want to do? Like in windows, you have to modify files just to put themes on it when you really shouldn't have to hack it to do something that mundane. Not to mention Apple isn't a fan of people Hackintoshing computers with their OS when it's not on an apple build machine,
I would rather only have to pay for an operating system one time in the future.

Perhaps Microsoft could market more than one version and it would usually be clear to the consumer which one is for them if only one version was available to any particular type of computer? OS´s are like Women - Win only cares about ONE Machine and getting you confused - Apple cares about wheter you drive the car she likes - and Linux... well she doesn´t care as long as you do as you please ;-D
Oh, btw, i am a Mac with Linux Flavour.

Linux all the way cross the skyyyy
Mariuspersem 1 year ago
Microsoft - give you a few flavours to give you what you need
Apple - give you 1 flavour and try and tell you what you need.
Linux - Get the damn flavours yourself.
That about sums it up.

Only Windows 7 Ultimate is the best Windows OS atm. I love Linux but i use Windows because of gaming. So i kinda use both. :D
Akselmoi 1 year ago

The rental model sucks and it just too expensive when thinking of long term. Most people would rather pay a certain amount of money for OS software and not have to worry about it until the next major version. All the rental model will lead to is more piracy.
nickjuly4A 1 year ago
please oh please get a better camera. Such poor quality
nvanadium 1 year ago 3
he's right about renting the OS. I mean have you ever noticed how either Microsft or Apple flip the hell out if the user wants to do something that they as a company don't want to do? Like in windows, you have to modify files just to put themes on it when you really shouldn't have to hack it to do something that mundane. Not to mention Apple isn't a fan of people Hackintoshing computers with their OS when it's not on an apple build machine,
experimental0000 1 year ago
It should be 2 versions... Home and Professional.
Go back to 1998 and it worked perfectly -- Windows 98 for Home and Windows NT for Pros.
