If you live in England or another particularly windy country. Don't shoot on the beach, use a bit of common sense.. Sand is a big threat to your dslr.
Quick question, say I was shooting in 720p @ 60 fps. I adjust the shutter speed lower to say 60 or all the way up to 800. Does that affect the smoothness of the video or change frame rate when playing back?
i change the exposure to compensate a lot. What if you don't have the option to switch lens. How do you fix that? Change the f stop then the exposure if needed ?
WTF....did i miss something ? oh ...i did......the off button for this vid !.....total crap.....you teach nothing......n by the way get a nice set of ND filters......tut tut n i thought i would learn something from this vid.........i hold on i did ....i learnt how to waist 5mins and 10 secs :(
you didn't lower it because you will loose data, you lowered it cause auto-brightness calculates the average light value and the shutter, and not the brightness you want to give the subject eg people, so u have to overwrite it's suggestion for you're needs, without external editing there is no connection with quality though!
@speedgamer01 He doesn't mean quality as the detail loss, he means completely white areas or hot spots which can't be edited in post. If you under-expose it, you will get much more detail and it's easier to push the brightness up in post than pushing it down while you will still see those hot spots!!!
@TomasCimma Yes i know, but thereotically the best is to set the exposure correctly at the scene of recording, post editing will result in data loss doesnt matter wether the pixels are over or underexposed. The only difference is that people are more sensitive to overexposed data loss than the under exposed data loss.
I bought this video after seeing this clip, horrible waste of money... should be called everything to buy if your rich. All they do is show you terribly expensive things to add to your camera.
@redemptionshill Have you been able to find a good alternative? I'm looking for a DVD on 550D videography. Or any good DVD on using a DSLR for videography. thanks.
Thanks for the advice Philip! But dude, maybe in between shoots you should do some jumping jacks. In you're recent videos you are looking too bloated man! Take care mate!
I'm new to Dslr shooting and since I've purchased I have been checking out the work of Philip bloom. I shoot with Sony fx1000 mostly but it's amazing what these Dslr and super 35mm sensors are capable of. I shot a video last month for a bay area rap artist named blast holiday. Check out blast holiday "my iniquities". Shot with 7d with the kit lens mostly(28-135mm) and a few shots done with the nifty 50. Also search baby bobble fresh. They were both last minute productions.
How much do these cameras go around at? Cuz I've been interested in photography and I'm really good at it. Although I want to get involved in videography too. PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!
Wouldnt using a picture profile be a bad idea? Color correcting should be done in post production, so youre not locked into one color set to work with.
Hi Philip, thank you for your insight, I've recently acquired a canon EOS 7D and bumped onto your sight by accident, could you forward an email address as I have a few questions which I'm hoping you might be able to answer..
I have recently upgraded from the 400D to 7D. I'm looking at doing occaisional vids. You didn't once mention the term Ext Mic, let alone the one u were using or what you advise. I know the 7D has a built in mic but the least you could have done was mention the one you were using. You didn't record anything & play it back to show the outcome. I found this vid left a lot of questions un-answered. And it certainly didn't explain 'Everything i need to know' it was more of a 'What i prefer to do'
@whitewingsrich This is a trailer. Are you commenting on this trailer or the DVD? Because perhaps he does comment on the external mic on the DVD. Obviously he's not gonna answer all your questions in a trailer; then what would be the point of selling the DVD? Read the title before commenting lol.
Awesome video! If you have some time, please check out my final project from film school, a sci-fi drama entitled "NUMERICA" inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's 2 B 0 R 2 B.
It tells the story of a young couple struggling to have a baby in a world where overpopulation is rampant. In fact, for every child born an adult must volunteer to die.
@soneeqboom He did not use an ND Fader, he closed the iris (higher aperture) and increased the shutter speed to 1/200... an ND fader screws onto the front of the lens and drops the amount of light that can physically enter the camera.
@Hassenmusic An ND fader is a rotating style filter that allows you to keep your settings where they should be. Basically keeps light from getting in the camera. Sunglasses for you camera, lol.
@AndoCalrissian1 IS THIS... hardwere.. softwere¡?¡?¡? something i got to download¡??¡¡ "thanks by the way.. all pices of info help me sooo soo so much"
Because when you change the shutter speed it will change the look of the shots, say for instance in this case it would give you a choppy image, rarely should you change your shutter speed when shooting video from 1/60th, photo however is a different story =)
@Birdagi because using shitty lenses, the most important part of any setup, makes sense on a 7D... and besides, you can get for example a Canon 50mm 1.4 prime for around $300 and that will make for great picture quality.
@Birdagi I'm going to guess you're not into cameras and you're just trying to crack a joke. If you have a dslr you are well into the thousand already. Add on's are a must for the professional (which hes more advertising too, obviously not the common shooter). A professional photographer has around 10-15 thousand in photography equipment. 4000 is reasonably average.
@Jeconomy If your a pro photographer you dont need to buy a dvd to show you how to use use gear. It should be aimed at people who want to get the best results out of the box.
@Birdagi You are so right. The T2i kit lens can do wonders for your film. But, no, it seems like every filmmaker out there with rich parents needs to have every lens to compete with Hollywood. "Oh, I gotta get these cool lens or that or my film will suck!" Please.
@conewells Assuming you mean the 18-55mm, it is better than it's name, but there's a simple reason not to use it for filming: The focus ring sucks which is quite important to most filmmakers. Furthermore the spinning front-element doesn't really work good with polarizers. A 3.5 aperture isnt to compelling for low light shooting either.
