  • Classic!

  • Did any body else out there always doubt his sincerity.Maybe he just has a short memory,at best.

  • Yeah well he's now the Australian Cabinet Minister for Climate Change in The Australian Labor Party...... How the mighty have fallen......

  • US forces got the nod alright.

  • You sell out shaking hands AND LAUGHING with a man who killed over 1 million Iraq people. US FORCES GOT THE NOD FROM YOU TODAY AND CHINA IS PISSED OFF, LOOKS LIKE TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGINS I COMING TRUE

  • I can't take Peter seriously as a PM cause of his dancing.

  • @4:23 :0 WOW

  • I love Peter i don't care what people say but was he smoking gear? Its the only explanation! Rock on the Oils!

  • like most australians..why did peter garrett go towards politics in the fact that all midnight oil songswere anti polys..plastic fukers..So come on Pete>>>fuk the polys and enjoy the crowd ,,maybe its for the pension

  • Lol @ visible weed smoke wafting over audience around 3:52

  • Am I the only person who can see he's speeding?

  • @enlightenedDiamond Nah, that's just how Peter Garrett is.

  • The Chaser does him better

"The Chaser - U.S Bases Midnight Oil parody"

  • Utterly insipid politics, but a monster hard rock band. Completely underrated (if not overlooked altogether, except for one of their worst tunes).

  • I love you MIDNIGHT OIL!!!!!

  • New Zealanders always believed....NO NUKES

  • Most were unaware... Not all. Good band b4 the lead singer sold out, imho.....

  • well, remember, the Americans I'm sure had no interest in nuclear weapons at all, it was the American Government and military, just to be clear. I lived there in 1981-1996, it was for sure not the people who wanted them in Australia, nor anywhere.

  • Most good Aussie Bands Sing about real life issues :-) its like a style and trend from the Aussie bands such as midnight oils...

Other bands from the north east of Australia on the other side of the globe are so predictable and sing of things that aren't worth singing about

  • @MrSelector1

Obviously you haven't heard of Bad Religion or Rise Against. There are still some good bands out there, but they are much underappreciated.

  • now that he is the' kind of' minister of education (?), will our children have to read communist propaganda in schools???

  • No Group today lives up to the epic Midnight Oil, wish Peter would finish with politics and come back and sing about the issues

  • @Auslady Well said :):):)...But first he needs to teach the politicians a lesson...

  • @Auslady I Agree 100%, he more than likely did more for this country as a musician in the past than he ever will in politics, I hope I am wrong but I honestly think pete is just to good a bloke for politics......

  • ahaha the giant praying mantis.

  • one of the greatest aussie bands ever... dont give a toss about the political side... just enjoy the music..

  • This guy is an acid popping communist. Now he is in our government. He is indirectly responsible for killing half a dozen people in the government insulation scheme. Oh well, only in Australia......

  • 4:23 WTF?!

  • 3:27

    Lols

  • His sudden mouth twitches gives the game away ... Drug test

  • crikey.com... now there's quailty journalism at it's best...

  • Has the right to get into politics ., but they get outsmarted politicallly by academics with fuck all knowledge about the country these economics students come political leaders choose to manage ., cof coff

  • Love the comments from the young Liberals in here. Go jump off a boat and drown yourself.

  • It just shows what happens when you join a major party. He won't say what he thinks....................... Not much has changed both in what they were angry about and the general soft cock toe it politics

  • hes high as a kite

  • @shnizalproductions

Now environment minister in Australia opened logging, ignores geoengineering too.

  • now he should be more concerned about 'ceiling insulation batts"... time to quit peter, get bald arsed head bag on stage...

  • lol its so bloody funny that he was going to goto parliament when the whole thing unwrapped, then he did a runner.

Probably at home listening to his songs and having his pathetic-attempts at dancing in order to console himself at the fuckup he made.

  • "minister for the environment gives the nod, it's a fuck up for our country"

"insulation batts all in rows, shonkey tradesmen lay some more"

"exposed wires, will surely arc & spark"

"firies, please come to save our arse" ....

  • lol... sad but true

  • @nzoz1983 - ...well, not SO true, if you believe not Uncle Rupert but the Crikey.com reports claiming that the Oily Green Giant actually warned that there were major problems, and that, percentage-wise the numbers of injuries from the insulation batts actually DECREASED during the economic stimulus roll-out. Insulating homes - a GREAT idea, but done in a rush.

  • @Alvinsweeeeet before the bats scheme there weren't ANY regulatory frameworks in place for companies installing bats. If anything Garett introduced new rules to ensure people did the work safely. Shonky companies wanted to take government money and ignored what the government told them to do (not use stell fasteners etc).

The providers in the marketplace failed to deliver safe installations, not the governments fault. Ignorant.

  • @paulfitzpa are you sure it was garrett??? i believe that it was the honest & safe installing companies that highlighted the dangers & shortcuts they were being taken by the shonky companies... rudd, garrett & co. wouldn't believe the opposition, prior to the honest companies going to the media...

  • @Alvinsweeeeet - cheap shot - Crikey.com claims that the percentage of fires actually went DOWN during the scheme

  • @Alvinsweeeeet Let's not denigrate his musical legacy by referencing his political one, eh?

  • @wherehairbear - legacy??? he's not dead... though you'ld think he was, especially the way the alp have hidden him away... what about the legacy of those who died with the dodgy batt instulations??? one more thing, all of his music is political... difficult not to refer to it... eh!!!

  • @Alvinsweeeeet Does anyone actually believe Peter actually did anything (right or wrong) in the government?

  • @pnnorton yeah he did but got stabbed in the back just like K Rudd!!

  • ET phone homeeeee

  • @kopboi99 eliotttttt

  • fuck man, garrett was advocating for shit since before i was born, and he's still going. Shame now he's in parliament where less can be acheived, than in the music the oils made.

  • Midnight Oils performance on "Thicke of the Night" was classic: Garrett was lighting pieces of paper on fire while the band was play and Alan Thicke's staff was tapping them out! Hilarious!! I think it was their American debut and I dont think they were asked back---I bought the cassette though;-)

  • looks like he has Parkinsons...

  • tat´s his unhiding type of to be. The most famous people only act to get more selling records. He don´t need this shi t

  • hahahahahah! (Y)

  • shame garrett is such a turncoat....but anything is better than liberal....

  • at least the liberals never lied about their beliefs. Garrett is a good signer, but an absolutely shocking politician. If i ever did have a conversation it would probably be neither "short nor jocular in nature"

  • is it?

  • Comment removed

  • Fantastic memories.. those were the golden days of aussie music...

  • Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne 1983 'Stop the Drop' concert. What a memory!

  • Rudd Garrett, We are all fucked, find peace in that

  • in a response to an earlier response:

Isn't that what we need in government? people who don't support it.

  • I hate garrett now he's sleeping with Kevin Dudd, but I love the oil's music

  • You jealous?

  • I dont hate garrett, i am sure he still feels the same about the issues of todays society.

He just has to somehow get that bondage ball out of his mouth that Rudd has gagged him with...

  • Love the Oils too - They obviously can still do their stuff so well going by the Fire Relief Concert. The fact that Peter is now an MP doesn't sit well with me either; so against politicians and the governments (see Oils on Water) and then joins them, albeit as Environment Minister. But then again, perhaps he will do better in that role than anyone else can; suppose it's better the devil you know.

  • labor cant put forward any radical ideas because they just get squashed by fucking dick sucking steve fielding. Why is that guy in government anyway?

  • You got that right jaack456, he's a out of control devil chasing turkey buzzard shit lipped smegma coated butthead who should be with all the loony American bible belt churchy hypocrites

  • Gifford - Totally original. The finest bassist we have ever had in Australia !

  • nah Greg Mcainsh from Skyhooks is the finest bassist we ever had in Australia.

  • Got the t-shirt though.

  • I was overseas at the time.

  • hey its michael klim!

  • wow, i watched the first 2-3 seconds and scrolled down to write pretty much the exact same comment, and saw yours on the way

  • Can't believe i've seen this again thanx a million...used to have whole concert on VHS, Oils headlined with Inxs,Goanna and Colin Hay supports, Pete hurling himself of the amps during short memory, fuckin classic

  • Good old Melbourne ay my mum and dad went to this i was only 5 years old

  • Great track with a more relevent message now in 2008 than ever...

  • pitty garrat isnt willin to do half as much about it now he is in bed with rudd,,

but none the less,, wat a great song!!

  • did you obtain this off the "Anthoilogy" compilation?

  • no... i got this from another source.

  • at least Peter Garrett's still anti-Nuclear

  • GO OILS! its so sad they broke up maybe peter wont be RP again and then the OILS will get back together *thinks happy thoughts*

  • long live the OIL´S

  • Awesome!

  • Yes during the 80s the nuclear threat was real. People like the Oils and many others kept the pressure then Chenoble happened. Gorbachez was obviously shocked and fortunately made friends with Reagan. Solar not Nuclear.

  • Gay arse push out headbang thing rocks

  • Great footage. Melbourne rocks!!

  • this song set the Oils back over here in the early 80's, they toured soon after this was released and it wasnt the success they hoped for. It wasnt really till Diesels and Dust was released the US warmed up to Peter.
