i am having this song on a serious repeat basis. i am seeing them live this friday at atp nightmare before christmas fest in minehead, uk and i am really hoping they play this one.
This song totally reminds me of those emotional montage or main transitional parts in 80's movies. Like in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure when they appeared before the Future Council, lol.
It's just so real and true. The lyrics are so simple... just like the memories... but the music provides the buil-up emotion that the memories do... the small at-the-time meaningless moments that we don't know we will end up remembering forever. And the build-up in the end doesn't go anywhere... because we can't go back.. Augh, it's just so real.
3:25 is such a wonderful transition. makes you think the song will build into a great future islands frenzy but it just settles into this new cyclic theme. then the bass line toys with you to make you think it's going to resolve but it never does! look back look back over and over as we cycle through our memories. the song ends unresolved which gives his declaration of love permanence. i always have to go back to the start of the song to hear the resolving chord. genius!
