Is it just me or is the fan on that "high performance air cooler" on the wrong side? But then again, they started both comps at the exact same time so it must be a fair test
@Apple2134Gamer lol dude you'll someday just throw a real watercooling unit in, like me. the H50 is no risk solution anyway ...a custom water loop is the best way to go honestly.(risk an all) But if you have any worries about the H50. Im sure Corsair will replace anything if it leaks on you, I used a H50 actually before I set a bigger budget aside for real watercooling. EK AND XSPC ARE GREAT !
I would get the water cooled option, but there are too many reviews for my liking were theres has burst and broke there PC but if this doesn't happen it is a beast!
you definitely installed the air cooler wrong, the rear case fan is pulling the air out and infront of it air coolers fan is pulling air in that's wrong wrong wrong.
the air cooler's fan should be on the other side of the cooler.
@RUSSIAN26KILLER That isn't necessarily a PC question, it can also be applied to a car, the water is pumped through the small radiator fins which are cooled by the fan.
This cooler is a POS, I'm running an i7 950 at stock and getting 48 degrees IDLE!!!! And yes I've tried reapplying the thermal paste and reseating the pump.
@MASKOAA I cleaned it all out and re applied the paste and am getting 37-40 degrees idle, and 70 degrees load. The last gen i7's do run a lot hotter than the current range.
put it against the Noctua NH-D14 and see the difference, when you talk about highend aircooler then put it against the noctua. This test is really biased.
wait a second, ain't that a memory related BSOD code? could also be a Vcore BSOD code. not every CPU is the same ;/ so it's not a fair test.. shame on you Corsair.. Shame......
Liquid for the win, if your going to use air for overclocking or general high performance cpus then your an idiot. Thermal conductive water is always going to win over metal because of it's chemical composition.
Prolimatech Mega Shadow, 2x 120mm be quiet! Fans, i7 960... all that in my raven2 case. Idle33°-37° and after 6 hours paying Crysis on very high settings and 16xQ Anti Aliasing 48°-52°.
No gamer needs H50 and the test is just bullsh.....

Stupid testsystem config and worthless test ! ! ! !
@shalvam You srsly don't know what you're talking about, do you? There's something called F@H that many people run their rig 24/7. Crysis is not even cpu reliant... Play BFBC2 if you have it and you'll see your temp shoot up.
@tringuyen552911 I do know what I'm talking about, I'm talking about this stupid and worthless test! In this test you can see a realy worthless air cooled system.
The fan config of the air cooler is in the pull config ! It should be in the PUSH ! The Chassis is not the best for air cooling and there is not much airflow in the case, it makes no sence if you run such system to the limits.
A High-end air cooled system needs a lot of air and a realy good Case with more than just two 120mm fans !
This test proves nothing. Plus who in the fuck plays L4D on an extreme core CPU. That shit is meant to do some high calculations programs. My Pentium 4 @ 3.0GHZ plays that shit smooth as butter.
This video is a terrible comparison i use Corshair for most things but this is just sad. Your air cooler was a piece of shit and probably not seated correctly. I have a Coolermaster v8 on my AMD 1090T and i get better temps then with your H50.
Thats kinda stupid how you have got the fan on the air cooled system just pulling air off the heatsink. You should have it running in a push/pull config, or atleast set the fan up so it blows air over the heatsink.
What the booklet told my friend was that he was supposed to mount the fan backwords (he's pulling air from the exhaust of his case) and into the case inside. Then where does the air go? It doesn't really matter if you have top exhaust fans, then what about the front intakes? Useless and zero force going around
Got my own H50 and went "who needs instruction booklets lol"
What are the fan speeds on the two systems? I am running a Phenom ii X6 1055t Overclocked to 3.5ghz with a Corsair A70 cooler in an Antec 902, MSI 890FXA-GD70 and HIS Radion 5750 and my max temps with prime95 are 45* (according to MSi control center) and my Cpu fan is 1X stock corsair @2000rpm and 1X Coolermaster Scythe at 1800Rpm with the Antec's fans on low settings.
@maz12004 I agree that the aircooler wasn´t high performance but the H50 isn´t really that high performance either. The radiator is really thin and without corsairs own fan (wich sounds like a hairdryer) or another 1700rpm fan the cpu get really hot.
A bsod doesn't always mean that the cooler is bad, it could have been the ram or the mobo that was causing the instability.. Even tho both rigs had the same parts, they are not identical and require different OC settings.
My only beef is that the Corsair stock fans are too noisy and don't give the best performance. First thing I do is remove those fans and install CoolerMaster sickle blade fans which run faster, quieter and cooler!
B.S. that's a Megahalems in the other PC, you have to purposely fuck up to get those temperatures even at 3.98 GHz. Corsair, I love your power supplies, but your coolers are pitiful, and so are the guys installing them.
@wanted21x I totally caught that too. Push does a lot better but they probably put it that way to that the H50 would win and also because the memory fan wouldn't fit with the cpu fan in push config. I know this because I have the same problem.
Not only this, but if anyone can see the BSOD it says error 3B, which means vcore is too low. So it wasnt even heat related, they just suck at overclocking. Windows doesnt even HAVE an error code for heat.
@Smoblikatt That would make sense if both of them crashed, being overclocked at exactly the same settings. But they didn't both crash, only the air cooled one.
@UnrealGlider probably because the H50 makes less noise (the radiator of the H70 is thicker) and the H50 is much cheaper. They perform about equally well, the H70 doesn't make any difference. I am about to buy a new system and I'm going for the H50 too, for the above reasons.
@Bergen79 All the tests show like a 5-10% drop in temps using the H70, well worth an extra £20. I got mine through today and it is pretty impressive, looking forward to getting it installed when my Stacker 833 comes through.
@UnrealGlider I guess that depends on the situation. Why would it be "well worth an extra £20"? Personally I couldn't care less if my temps are at 55 instead of 50 degrees. What difference does that make? But maybe it does matter if you're overclocking and if your cpu is living on the edge.
@Bergen79 Why buy the H50 if you're not overclocking, would be just fine with a £20 cooler or even a stock cooler if your gonna be running stock clocks... :)
@UnrealGlider For a couple of reasons: First of all because it's pretty quiet. I could buy a quiet air cooler, but they are generally so big that if your memory has high cooling ribs (like the XMS3 DHX series) then it almost doesn't fit under the cooler on some boards, like on the ASUS P7P55D-E I plan to buy. Also because it looks cool and also because my case doesn't get so crowded, which is again better for the airflow. I've never played with watercooling and this is a nice first step. :-)
@Bergen79 Well I just got my H70 today, and it beats my old h50 hands down.. I also used the Coolermaster V10 for a few months and well... Thats just a rubbish cooler. I have never really dabbled in real watercooling either, these coolers are great, but you really should consider the H70, its insane.
@Bergen79 I never installed it with stock fans, using the ones from my antec 1200 on medium speed and they are so sweet, my i7 920 at 4ghz ran at 100% for 2 hours reached 77, but was usually around 74, not bad for a £70 cooler! I had to take it back down though because the x58 chip was just getting too hot, the heatsink hot enough to hurt me if I held my finger on it. If you plan on overclocking you'll need to get some decent cooler for the chips and NB on your mobo with this :)
@jaspergabriel16 You argue with me, (I know ever such a lot more then you about the subject) trying to prove a point which completely contradicts the reason you would buy this product. You complain you're on a tight budget, then blow £60 on a cooler for the looks, when the stock cooler would suit you fine, seeing as you have no intention of pushing it at all. Stick to buying a ready built system.
@UnrealGlider don't you get it, I ALREADY OWN A CORE 2 QUAD. Do you read sentences properly?
and people have different experiences with a cooler. i saw some reviews in the internet suggesting that the h50 is a good cooler, i also saw some reviews that tells that the h50 is a bad cooler. so it doesn't mean its completely not worth it.
one more thing, don't insult people who doesn't own the latest stuffs.
@UnrealGlider and if your really a computer freak, Y DONT YOU UPLOAD SOME VIDEOS? IF YOU REALLY HAVE A HIGH PERFORMANCED COMPUTER, Y DONT YOU SHOW IT TO OTHER PEOPLE?
@jaspergabriel16 im currently running a 1055T (3,5GHz) and 2 GTX 460 (850mhz core clock) in sli. the whole system draws about 500W under 100% load so there is still headroom for more hardware. so yes the hx650 can easily run this setup of yours.
@jaspergabriel16 for this kind of setup i would go with a 650w psu. if the corsair hx650 is to expensive check out the 650W psu from XFX. it has a great value, modular interface, good efficiancy and nice cables.
Not a meaningful test at all. The test should have been performed *on the same machine with the same settings* (albeit at different times of course). One of the most repeated phrase in the OC community is "No Two CPUs Are The Same!" The air-cooled CPU might've just been a weaker CPU...or with a bad setting. OC is a tricky business, after all.
I JUST bought a Corsair H50 and I agree with you. Also, the L4D example isn't the greatest as heavy gaming wouldn't stress the CPU like a synethetic CPU tester such as Prime95 / Intel Burn In / OCCT / LinX / Linpack / etc. Also, though I agree that different CPU's do have different overclocking tolerances, the i7 Extreme series is unlocked and has greater tolerances for overclocking, but is still subject to the individuality of CPU heat and overclocking tolerances like you say.
@kevbodian What? They're the same damn case. Are you blind? Not that I agree with the results, or the cause of the BSoD.. but it's the same rig, with the exception of the CPU heatsink.
What's funny is that Corsair used a Lian Li case instead of their own high end case.
seriously? I am all for comparisons like this. Especially since it is a real world comparison, but this is shady and simply not something I would have expected from Corsair...
WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE INCORRECTLY MOUNTED AIR COOLER? The CPU fan is facing the wrong way, pushing air across the fins over the memory, while the rear case fan is pulling air in the opposite direction.
Installing it the right way would solve ALL thermal problems and INCREASE the performance of the air cooler.
Yes I noticed that too...but maybe they mount the fan inverse way onto the heatsink.
They have to do this bacause of the huge RAM cooler. But You're right if the CPU cooler works against the rear case fan.
My bro installed his Hyper TX2 to the wrong direction at first....that caused +10C temperature at full load (60C with wrong and 50C with correct mounting)
if you put a second 120 fan you can run 4ghz on a 920 the second fan is a must because it will drop a around 8c but still nothing compared to a real water loop
Hey does anyone think I could paint the pipes and anything else on it Green UV Reactive Paint? Because you can't really replace the fluid that easily. or could I just put some sorta UV Reactive coil thing around the pipes?
Extremely biased video, who knows maybe the air cooler was loose on purpose. To say that the H50 is better than a top-end air cooler is like saying that my stang can beat a 911 twin-turbo in the 1/4th mile. I personally have a 212+ with a push pull setup and my 920 does 4.2Ghz on AIR w/o BSODS.. Temps dont even hit 60c @ 1.27v w/ same ambient as this test 24c. Shame on Corsair for posting misleading info..
wow people should relize that the only reason h50 doesn't work as well with other water cooling is the amoung of liquid being pumped through and radiator size so i desided to buy 6300 rpm fans, 2 of them for a combined 500 cfm. NICE
That Bsod states that you need more vcore voltage

@Bergen79 Why buy the H50 if you're not overclocking, would be just fine with a £20 cooler or even a stock cooler if your gonna be running stock clocks... :)
UnrealGlider 1 year ago
@UnrealGlider For a couple of reasons: First of all because it's pretty quiet. I could buy a quiet air cooler, but they are generally so big that if your memory has high cooling ribs (like the XMS3 DHX series) then it almost doesn't fit under the cooler on some boards, like on the ASUS P7P55D-E I plan to buy. Also because it looks cool and also because my case doesn't get so crowded, which is again better for the airflow. I've never played with watercooling and this is a nice first step. :-)
Bergen79 1 year ago
@Bergen79 Well I just got my H70 today, and it beats my old h50 hands down.. I also used the Coolermaster V10 for a few months and well... Thats just a rubbish cooler. I have never really dabbled in real watercooling either, these coolers are great, but you really should consider the H70, its insane.
UnrealGlider 1 year ago
@UnrealGlider Sweet. :-) Is the cooler quiet enough or would you put a different cooler on it?
Bergen79 1 year ago
@Bergen79 I never installed it with stock fans, using the ones from my antec 1200 on medium speed and they are so sweet, my i7 920 at 4ghz ran at 100% for 2 hours reached 77, but was usually around 74, not bad for a £70 cooler! I had to take it back down though because the x58 chip was just getting too hot, the heatsink hot enough to hurt me if I held my finger on it. If you plan on overclocking you'll need to get some decent cooler for the chips and NB on your mobo with this :)

@UnrealGlider because its cheaper than the H50 and besides, i dont overclock. i just want to have a water cooler . i'm on a tight budget

@jaspergabriel16 So your buying it for the sake of it? ^^
UnrealGlider 1 year ago
@UnrealGlider yup. ^-^
jaspergabriel16 1 year ago
@jaspergabriel16 Why waste money you don't have? And wow, your buying a core 2 quad and a 5870... just lol...
You need to learn a thing or 2 before this shit before you end up either blowing stuff up or hurting yourself.

jaspergabriel16 1 year ago
@jaspergabriel16 No, people like you just irritate me.
UnrealGlider 1 year ago
@UnrealGlider why?
jaspergabriel16 1 year ago
@jaspergabriel16 You argue with me, (I know ever such a lot more then you about the subject) trying to prove a point which completely contradicts the reason you would buy this product. You complain you're on a tight budget, then blow £60 on a cooler for the looks, when the stock cooler would suit you fine, seeing as you have no intention of pushing it at all. Stick to buying a ready built system.
UnrealGlider 1 year ago
@UnrealGlider don't you get it, I ALREADY OWN A CORE 2 QUAD. Do you read sentences properly?
and people have different experiences with a cooler. i saw some reviews in the internet suggesting that the h50 is a good cooler, i also saw some reviews that tells that the h50 is a bad cooler. so it doesn't mean its completely not worth it.
one more thing, don't insult people who doesn't own the latest stuffs.

@UnrealGlider and by the way how people commented on your channel, it really shows you have a lot of enemy in the internet.

ps: obsidian case is to expensive^^
Weini123 1 year ago
@Weini123 can the HX650 handle a core 2 quad and a xfx 5870?
jaspergabriel16 1 year ago
@jaspergabriel16 im currently running a 1055T (3,5GHz) and 2 GTX 460 (850mhz core clock) in sli. the whole system draws about 500W under 100% load so there is still headroom for more hardware. so yes the hx650 can easily run this setup of yours.
Weini123 1 year ago
@Weini123 how about if i have a 500watts psu. it could still handle my system?
jaspergabriel16 1 year ago
@jaspergabriel16 for this kind of setup i would go with a 650w psu. if the corsair hx650 is to expensive check out the 650W psu from XFX. it has a great value, modular interface, good efficiancy and nice cables.

Another video here shows that the H50 is up to 14C cooler than the Coolermaster V8, which beat the Intel Extreme cooler by only 2C!

What kind of case is that?
xXORAnG3Xx 1 year ago
Not a meaningful test at all. The test should have been performed *on the same machine with the same settings* (albeit at different times of course). One of the most repeated phrase in the OC community is "No Two CPUs Are The Same!" The air-cooled CPU might've just been a weaker CPU...or with a bad setting. OC is a tricky business, after all.
luminus69 1 year ago
@luminus69

Rapagangsta 1 year ago
@kevbodian What? They're the same damn case. Are you blind? Not that I agree with the results, or the cause of the BSoD.. but it's the same rig, with the exception of the CPU heatsink.
What's funny is that Corsair used a Lian Li case instead of their own high end case.
pursuinginsanity 1 year ago
It wouldnt blue screen because of 71° CPU Temp.
I had mine on 90° C and it was still running...

MrNice399 1 year ago
Vgharaei 1 year ago
@Vgharaei this guy got it.
Rosty89 1 year ago
@Vgharaei
NRB177 1 year ago
Love the H50 but why test the air cooler in a smaller enclosure with probably less airflow? The smaller machine will be hotter no matter what.

It's not just the temps, it's the noise. But yeah, biased. Air cooling is pretty amazing those days, and matches the H50.

if you put a second 120 fan you can run 4ghz on a 920 the second fan is a must because it will drop a around 8c but still nothing compared to a real water loop

NICE

They should have mounted the fan on the aircooling setup so it pushes the air through the cooler and not so it pulls the air from out of the cooler :D
I have a NH-D 14 on my i7 and it beats the H50 in temps and noisewise, too.
