They are currently housed in a huge natural bay, which is netted at the end to prevent them from entering open water, where they would probably be killed by other sea mammals.
These animals enjoy a freedom that so many animals held captive don't and the center is actively involved in freeing other such animals worldwide from a similar position.
It is very easy to have an warped view of a situation, when you have no information, so shame on YOU guva2212 for your recklessness and ignorance.
FYI guva2212, these animals were rescued by the Arctic diving center, from an aqarium in the Red Sea, where they were being used as "show" animals.
They were kept in water at a temperature of 32 deg C, in a small tank. The center raised thousands of euros to free these animals, who now live in their natural habitat in waters of minus 2 deg C.

To dive with the whales at the arctic center was about $200.00, but you could freedive/snorkle with them for $80.00.
These are not show animals though.
They are kept in a netted area of the bay and just do their thing.....

These pictures were taken in Chupa, at the arctic diving center, in the Russian arctic north in April 2008 by our group from Aberdeen Watersports.
