  • Love does hurt............sometimes, but if we don't experience the hurt then how can we fully appreciate all the truly wonderful feelings that love makes us feel ?

  • I have to agree with foz, this is the best version in my opinion but I did rather like Rod Stewart's

  • "Jim also wrote it."

No he didn't! It was written by Boudleaux Bryant - Everly Brothers covered it in 1960 - Jim Capadli would have still been at school then LOL

  • Jim also wrote it.

The thing with it - is that it can be sung 'Pop' - a la Jim , 'Blues'- Naz , & 'Ballad' - The Big O. Yes, Jims' arrangement is a tad too 'clean' for me ( but funky organ at the end...[ Stevie? ] ) --- but great melody finds ithe way every which way.

  • I sing this song to my girlfriend especially when she is beating me round the head with a frying pan after I have been to the pub all night !!

  • I was lucky enough to meet the man himself when i was a young boy, & he allowed me to play on his drum kit at his house in Marlow Bucks

  • drummer for traffic

  • brilliant song , so sad that he dead. R.I.P

  • Great Version of this classic...... Gone but never forgotten Jim!

  • Love it mate, thanks for uploading!

  • Love Hurts, But it doesn't hold a flag to a kick in the Unmentionables...:¬)

  • love hurts aint that the truth.

  • I don't think this is supposed to be "ironic", actually - more a mark of the times it was produced in. Also, the lyrics rather work when sung in this more upbeat way - like a happy reflection rather than something melodramatic.

  • Hey all you folks complaining that this is "upbeat" or something. I'm figuring the word "irony" means nothing to you...

  • de acuerdo con todos ustedes esta version es mejor, tambien me gusta la de nazareth pero esta es superior.

  • I always preferred this version to Nazareth's druggy version.

  • i agree my fave version is this one

  • Ay last I found it!

  • far better then the roy orbison version

  • Personally, I prefer this. I detest the screeching vocal of the Nazareth version.

  • Great song. Haven't heard this for years.

  • fantastic tune :)

  • Great song, great voice, and he was great bloke to know. Sadly missed.

  • @davegriff555 well said

  • Best version of this song

  • love(d) it

  • aah come on now. not bad coming from a drummer. has a great voice and in my opinion the best version. heard this first when i was a nipper in the late 70s.if you like singers that sing as if they are swallowing barbed wire then nazareth is your man. capaldi rocks!!

  • Sorry, but the musical arrangement for this song is at COMPLETE odds with anguish of the lyrics ... bubblegum pop? really ... doesn't work. Nice singer, good voice, stupid arrangement. Go back and listen to Nazareth.

  • @FOOFOOKITTY Love still is a Melody of Life and I love the Harmonious Contrast of the arrangement and the lyrics.. thats the Irony of Love!!! Fabulous Rendition!!

very optimistic ... Reality and Dream like ..

  • Haha ... yessss, the JOY & fun of the pain! ;-)

  • yeah the instability of it all questions joy fun pain pain pain .. did I say pain .. and then joy!! hahahah x

  • Thankyou . Im going down memory tonight. Ah ,wheres my time machine.?

  • nods and smiles :)

  • This cover is a good song sung great with such feeling and what a good voice Jim Capaldi had.

  • This is pretty. But c'mon now, Roy Orbison's version is the "REAL FEEL", and the VOICE.

  • prefer capaldi's version

  • For me this version is just so cool and has such a lovely feel to it and Capaldi's voice sounds so natural on it, unlike the Nazareth and Emmy Lou Harris/Gram Parsons versions which sound so painful.

Just my opinion - I bought this version when it came out in the 70's. Wouldn't have bought any of the others I've heard.

  • Easily the best version of this song. The others are all just so depressing as a result of their tempo.

  • Jim Capaldi made an incredible version of this back in 1975. However Nazareth had their version out back in 1974, it was a minor hit, but a great performance. I like both versions, though they have differerent overall feelings.

  • ANGEL121812 - then please listen to Emmy Lou & Gram Parsons do this, 1973 yes - the Everly Brothers attempted it in 60 & Nazareth - but it is not the same song...no feeling from any of them....

  • This is a different take on this song, but it has been done by the best, Emmy Lou Harris & Gram Parsons - will leave you in tears...these two are beautiful together, she loved him very much & you still feel the heartbreak in her voice to this day.

  • Jim capaldi is dead? It's true.

  • To me he does it best, the others just don't cut it, i just went and bought this off itunes, thankyou for putting this song up it brings back some wonderful memories from my younger days.

  • thank you Jim for the music

  • am certain we went to see Mr Capaldi at the leas cliff hall in 74. brilliant song & video.

  • To my mind this is the definitive version.

  • I totally agree. Originally done by the Everly Brothers, this cover version dating from November 1975 when it reached Number Three. Nazareth had a much smaller hit in November 1977 which struggled to the Number Fifteen slot.

  • But the Nazareth version was better.

  • In your opinion

  • @hurricaneUK - Yes, in my opinion. Does that mean I'm wrong, in your opinion ?

  • I'm not the one making statements about which version is better, you are

  • Fair enough. What I should have said was that I PREFER the Nazareth version. Although I do like both.

  • yes love hurts, especialy when your not with the one you really love and want to be with.

  • Awesome song! Love to hear the B side good song also, Sugar Honey..

  • my faverite song from the 70's/early 80's

  • Ich finde, es ist die beste Version überhaupt!

  • Thanks Jim.
