My '70 Formula 400 Ram Air IV, 4 speed ran on the national record in 1970 in E Pure Stock, 13.01 @ 107 MPH. The record was actually set by a Dodge 440 6 Pack. Stage I Buicks and the 455 W-30 Oldsmobiles were both very fast in the pure stock ranks. Early in the year I was beat by each of them but once I got it dialed in I was not beat by anything stock. This was at Connecticut Dragway but results could be different elsewhere. The RA IV automatics ran the Ram Air III #744 cam released in '66.
@disorderlyconduct97 the Ram air iv engine was the same displacement as the 3 ie, 400 cubes, but had a hotter cam, special high flowing round exhaust head porting, an aluminum intake, a forged steel crank, higher ratio rocker arms, stiffer valve springs, and a few other internal goodies that gave the ram 4 about 50 extra high rpm hp/torque numbers. essentially nothing from the factory in 69-70 in a ABody car could touch the Ram Air iv in the qtr mile. It was a beast!
@greg4161 The Ram Air iV GTO is a great car no doubt. However, your statement concerning A-Body cars, check it again. The 1970 GS 455 Stage1 Buick article Titled "Without a Taste of Geritol" begs to differ with your assumption. The basic quarter mile of this car is 13.38 @ 105.3 mph. The GS Stage2 is in another class all by itself with an aluminum intake, hotter camshaft, forged pistons, higher compression. The Stage 1 dethroned the famous 1970 426 cu.in. Hemi. Just a reminder
This car really sounds fabulous with the header noise & quiet mufflers. In this case here with an excellent camshaft choice, cylinder head work along with a good static compression produces a great sound without loud mufflers.
the thing that i love about muscle cars is morons rarely buy them. they are either bought for collector's purposes or are bought to be driven hard. a hate seeing every jerk off in a new 911 prancing around town.
go to ytwoktt on youtube and view my trans am 1st start video. they got the engine started and it wont be long now before it looks just like an se ws6 trans am. cant wait!!!!
@yoyoappled I was just wondering if this particular car has a more radical cam than the RAIV 041. The RAIV also had round port heads, aluminum intake manifold and valvetrain upgrades among other goodies.
OK. IT'S OFF THE TRAILER.... NOW DO SOMETHIN WITH IT!!!!! SMOKE EM IF YOU GOT EM !! ha ha.... Looks as good as it sounds!! I played this vid for my 68 GTO,,
go to ytwoktt on youtube and view my trans am 1st start video. they got the engine started and it wont be long now before it looks just like an se ws6 trans am. cant wait!!!!
Wow that is a nice car. From what I could see that body work was so crisp. Congrats on that beauty of a ride. someday mine will look like that I hope!
WOW - Awesome!!! Btw I owned the Atoll Blue/Blue/White top '70 RA IV/Auto Judge RAGTOP bid to $240K 14 mos ago @ Mecum. I bought it as a 17 yr old in July, '78 for $750, and w/my own money! I saved it from the crusher and kept it all intact. It was a 99K mi rusty basket-case that still ran. I sold it in ‘83 for $2500 as a bored college student - DUH!!! My RAIV Judge Rag was 1-of-6 made and still has the ORIGINAL XP/TH400/PQ, and I believe the only Blue one...
@jamcousi9 the smoke aint really blue. but its also probably a little chilly outside too. if it were burnin oil bad, then it would smoke a lot, but the smoke would cloud up a lot more than just puffin at the pipes
Just bought a 70 Judge and its a mess. Sat in one spot outside for 15 years and although I bought it for $2,000 I was feeling overwhemled with the project untill I saw this vid. Wish me luck!
@jamcousi9 do it to it man. you will prob have times when you run out of money, patients, time and space. you just have to keep the vision and remember how cool it's gonna be cruising in a 70 JUDGE. I have a 73 TA that is close now. I bought it at 17 for a grad present from grandparents and I'm 33 now. I am still stoked about getting it done. good luck buddy save it for the future generation :)
@jamcousi9 hey man dont ever give up. my dad had a 70 lemans convertible when he was in his 20s. but he left it on the beach for about ten years where it was supposed to be stored. its ate up pretty bad with rust but it still runs fine. Im going to make a gto clone out of it, orbit orange, and I wont give up for anything. Im 19 now and I hope have it done by my early 20s. Like father like son. It would be cool. Anyways good luck to you
@Towball22 Its a slow road but "Jackie" is coming along ok. Once we got it out of the hole it was sitting in and brought it home we discovered the frame was in really bad shape so we started with finding a donor car with a good frame, blasted it and painted it and slowly started builing on that foundation. I am trying to use all old NOS parts (shocks, front end parts, brake hardware etc..) which is expensive and im a guy on a budget so I figure in about another years time.
@Towball22 The thing I love most about this car is the interior, somehow it wasnt infested with mice and it is in really good driver quality shape. It still has that old vinyl muscle car smell that reminds me of my dads Roadrunner when I was a kid so when the car is finished the interior is going back in just the way it is.
When I was a kid the guys down the street had a 1970 gto. I remember waking up one morning to what I thought was an earthquake. They had taken out the engine and were revving it without the exhaust system. One of the most memorable childhood memories.
My brother HAD a 70 400ci Ram Air IV Judge. He still kicking himself to this day for selling it. My nephew currently has a RA-III Judge. We keep it in the family.
That's got to be the worst video handling l've ever seen , buddy you have got thumb's for fingers. Oh by the way ''stunning ''GTO but where's the front spoiler?.
During the mid-'80's, a friend of mine - who always had 2 or 3 GTO's at any given time - bought a '70 Judge. He would make business trips to Oklahoma and find them in the classified ads....rust free. He came by one day and took me for a ride in that thing and MAN! That car pulled so strong it was electrifing. It was a 4 speed and he went through the gears relatively fast so he must have been running pretty low gears. It was the fastest 1/4 car I've ever ridden in.
Absolutely beautiful!! Congrats on the new purchase, definetly a keeper. I think this is 1 of 325 RAIV Judges made in 1970 and how many were black? Ultra rare.
Really nice car!
You should drive it like it is supposed to be, those cars weren't built to become trailer queens!

I don't know why people leave the trims rings off those wheels; it's like leaving the rings off Chev rallies, they look unfinished.

The started out as 400s but later in that same year, they dropped 455s in them. That's for the standard GTO, most likely applies to the Judges
