Stick em good and be happy!

Nice shot huntdoctor1. My 338 win mag shoots into less than 1/2 moa. I had to scroll down a few pages to see what cartridge you used to make this shot and couldn't believe the bs coming from some of the ignorant idiots about the 30-06. I have 2 of them and let me tell you they are very capable, however they don't have the knockdown power of the 338 or the 300 but nevertheless still very capable. Once again that was one hell of a shot at that range!!!! Excellent video.

One thing we should all agree on is that unless we stick together, we're doing the anti-hunting groups work for them. Try to be supportive of fellow hunters regardless of means and methods and whether or not you agree with them. I personally use the biggest and best rifle I can afford and can shoot accurately. Every caliber mentioned (and questioned) here is adequate for elk with proper shot placement. Bigger/faster is only better if you can control where it goes.
See that is the thing there are hunters out there who kill for fun, trophy no real reason and I do not need them speaking for me I hunt only what I am going to eat and try not to support slaughter houses and trophy hunters I go under the old standards of hunting you kill it you eat it, if not and it is not attacking you than respect it and that is 97% of most hunters we hear more about the 3% so I really do not care

If all the rifles you mentioned were sighted in 0 @ 300 yds the 30 06 drops -12.1 inches @ 400 yds and -32.0 @ 500 yds. The 150 gr 270 sighted for 0 @ 300 drops -10.5 @ 400 and -28.1 @ 500. 300 win mag 0 @ 300 drops -10.4 @ 400 and -27.6 @ 500. 7mm mag 0 @ 300 yds drops -10.4 @ 400 and -27.6 @ 500 both the 300 win and 7mm speeds are @ 3000 fps like the 270. A 30-06 is way better than barrel burning, hard kicking, expensive ammo magnums. The 308 is a good cartridge too with extreme accuracy. Accuracy is more important than power.

plenty of pure b.s. about the 06 as a "beginners" caliber. Shove it straight up there buddy. It all depends on the person's ablility to shoot that certain caliber, .300 win mag kicks a little more than some people may want. Don't get upset because the .30-06 is an all around great choice. Funny though... the .270 and .280 are based on this "beginner" cartridge.

Nice shot huntdoctor1. My 338 win mag shoots into less than 1/2 moa. I had to scroll down a few pages to see what cartridge you used to make this shot and couldn't believe the bs coming from some of the ignorant idiots about the 30-06. I have 2 of them and let me tell you they are very capable, however they don't have the knockdown power of the 338 or the 300 but nevertheless still very capable. Once again that was one hell of a shot at that range!!!! Excellent video.

One thing we should all agree on is that unless we stick together, we're doing the anti-hunting groups work for them. Try to be supportive of fellow hunters regardless of means and methods and whether or not you agree with them. I personally use the biggest and best rifle I can afford and can shoot accurately. Every caliber mentioned (and questioned) here is adequate for elk with proper shot placement. Bigger/faster is only better if you can control where it goes.

See that is the thing there are hunters out there who kill for fun, trophy no real reason and I do not need them speaking for me I hunt only what I am going to eat and try not to support slaughter houses and trophy hunters I go under the old standards of hunting you kill it you eat it, if not and it is not attacking you than respect it and that is 97% of most hunters we hear more about the 3% so I really do not care

in my opinion, everything from a 270 win, to a 30-30 to a 338 Win is suitable for elk. "took mine with a 30-30."

@SonnyRCAFDC3 well if you hit it right 270 will certenly put the elk on his ass but I would just suggest something bigger like a 7mm mag or a 30-06 or a .300 win mag

@viper10011 The 270 will beat a 165 gr 30 06 any day of the week because the case is the same, its just necked down to 27 caliber. If all the rifles you mentioned were sighted in 0 @ 300 yds the 30 06 drops -12.1 inches @ 400 yds and -32.0 @ 500 yds. The 150 gr 270 sighted for 0 @ 300 drops -10.5 @ 400 and -28.1 @ 500. 300 win mag 0 @ 300 drops -10.4 @ 400 and -27.6 @ 500. 7mm mag 0 @ 300 yds drops -10.4 @ 400 and -27.6 @ 500 both the 300 win and 7mm speeds are @ 3000 fps like the 270. haha what super elk have you hunted? Every one that I've shot hasn't taken off until I have fired. We could make as much noise as we wanted, they would only look over and then jog off. Then again that's North West elk, I don't know where you're from

the 300 win mag is good but i herd it drops 3 inches in 200 yards i have a 7mm rem mag it shoots flat at 300 yards with 180 grain

A 30-06 is way better than barrel burning, hard kicking, expensive ammo magnums. The 308 is a good cartridge too with extreme accuracy. Accuracy is more important than power.

this is a rediculous statement, its like saying a vw beetle bug is way better than a ferrari....you point in saying is that an 06 is BETTER than a bigger magnum cartrige?!?! the 06 was made to compete with the german 8mm, striclty killing people, after the war, there were so many lying around, it only made sence to grab one to hunt...it was not inteded to hunt with from ist very beginning-other cartridges today ARE!

plenty of pure b.s. about the 06 as a "beginners" caliber. Shove it straight up there buddy. It all depends on the person's ablility to shoot that certain caliber, .300 win mag kicks a little more than some people may want. Don't get upset because the .30-06 is an all around great choice. Funny though... the .270 and .280 are based on this "beginner" cartridge.
