@mlleprufrock Metathesis is the name for changing the order of sounds in a word. It happens in many languages. Google "random house ax ask" or just "metathesis".
Oh, this takes me back to working at Boston Store in the mid nineties. This was one of the many songs they piped in for shoppers. Ah... good times! LOL
Great song, along with an amazing artist who will forever change the music industry.... now we got all this stupid stuff on the market and it's destroying music forever, come back Billy Joel, or Alexa Joel make some stuff!
I'm reading Billy Joel's discography on Wikipedia, just amazed at how many great, classic songs this guy has put out. Some of them, like this one, I'd forgotten about. It also said on his Wikipedia page that he officially stopped recording new material in '93. Why??? The guy's a genius. Maybe it dried up? Well, at least he had it. And he could tour forever doing all these classics.
@mlleprufrock The word ax instead of ask was actually brought over by the English way back. The current English accent is actually nowhere near what it was in those days and back then, it was filled with words like Ax and many other things. There is an episode of vsauce that explores this as well, here on youtube.
@bored132435 I think you're thinking of Bruce. To me, Joel is Mr. New York and always has been. There was a running joke, I remember even Bloom County commenting on it, that people confuse Joel w/ Springsteen. Shit, I didn't mean that as an insult to you, haha. I'm just saying, I think you're thinking of Bruce.
It is the favorite song heard at the time of a junior high school student.
Billy's singing voice and freshness are loved!!
His song becomes the feeling which was very heart-warming.

@MckyMseNTarotCrds I heard he's composing instrumental music at the moment. Jazz and classical.

One of the loveable little quirks of this song is that at 1:47 he pronounces "ask" like "ax" which is a very NY thing to do.
