I still can't watch these videos without crying. I don't think that people who aren't from there can fully understand what it means to have the place where you are from, where your family and friends live, the place where your ancestors are buried; to have the place where your roots are, completely wiped away. I'm so happy that y'all made it out okay. My great uncle, Joseph Sietzen, wasn't so fortunate. Hugs to you all.
I was there! It was horriable we spend 5 days there and only the parish helped their own people get out with boats and people where brought to schools, banks, prisions, anywhere from high water. When Katrina was posted on the news they only spoke of New Orleans damages. They forgot about St. Bernard Parish was damaged 100% under water. the Parish provided food the best they could for our people, then later we had to walk threw water to get to St. Benard Hwy to catch a truck to the ferry.
the guerra family. also known as my aunt pam and my uncle fabian. see, this is my house that they're on. ive seen the video thousands of time but i was on youtube and i came across it and seen everyones comments on how much they cared. it means so much to me. they are safe and so is my family but nothing will ever be the same again. they came to stay at our house because theirs had no levee protection, well as you can see ours diddnt have too much either. but thanks so much for caring everyone<3
I live in the New Orleans area and my brother and his wife lived in Chalmette and lost everything and I mean EVERYTHING. How long did it take for Guerras to be rescued? I hope they didn't have to spend the night on that roof.
So, are earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, droughts, snow and ice also his way of telling us where not to live? That pretty much covers the entire planet, so would you ask him where on this ball of mud that we ARE supposed to live?..
that's what happens when your city is built below sea level when the levy broke the government should have sent help right away.... not weeks later after people had died from lack of water and food..... please don't rebuild there it's going to happen again... how long could you hold back the ocean????
god bless you and your family i pray ypu made it safely to shelter. what happend to the dog who was trying to get onto the table i hope he/she is ok i know what an animal can mean to a person my dogs are like my kids and i would not leave them if i could at all help it.
Humans should know when to get out of the way of nature ! These fortunate few survived to start anew , accepting much less than they were accustomed to .
Another reason why i wake up everyday and i think... Why gain/build/do anything serious in this lifetime cause in the blink of an eye it can all be gone
wow your family they are truly survivors...god was watching over you...i can't even imagine what was going through your minds...thank you for posting this god bless
I can not even imagine how scared you all must have been. Seeing the video really showed me what it was like for someone down there. Thank you for sharing this. I really hope you are all well and that things got better for you.
Seeing this makes my heart hurt for realz...you never knew what was gonna hit you until it was too late...this hella sucked for a lot of people! I'm sorry for your loss! dont give up yet.
This most been a extremely terrible experience for you and your family, and all the other people that struggle too survive witout almost any help from US government.
This was terrible for those who stayed & those who left to return to the devastation. I'm a local guy who had family members who lost homes in MS & LA & the eye passed over my parent's home. It is important to note that there were failings on every level: local, state and Federal. The Feds have done the most to contribute. Mayor Nagin has been MIA & useless. Governor Blanco pretty much completely broke down and let down the state in the aftermath and initially refused Fed help that was offered.
God bless you angel. I went with a rescue group to deliver water and food. It was the most heart wrenching thing I have seen in my entire life. Im so glad you were able to get this footage to show people in other parts of the country what yall went through. Hope all is well!
I'm not trying to be ugly at all but why didn't you leave. Did you not believe it was going to be that bad? I'm really really sorry about what happened and I hope the family is well.
It's really easy to say "why didn't you leave?" Hurricanes come, they're never that bad. You've survived them in the past. You're not sure it's even coming. It takes 20hours to get 70 miles down the road. I live in Oklahoma now, the tornado siren goes off every 2 weeks and I am the only one in my neighborhood who wakes up and gets in the shelter and turns on the radio. And when a tornado comes and destroys my neighbor's house I'm sure some housewife from New Jersey will ask them the same thing.
Three minutes! I don't think i would have been able to get out of my house in time had i been in the same situation. I cant imagine what these people went through. I totally wouldnt have made it
Wow. First person account and eye witness footage. I cannot imagine the shock of seeing nothing but roofs in your street visible above water and having to sleep in the cold with a broken roof praying you live through it. Absolutely devastating stuff to live through.
Thank you for recording your experience. It gives me a better perspective on your horrible, horrible situation. You have a wonderful spirit and the love of your family, so I know that you will end up on your feet....DRY feet. Best always!
look , learn , and listen......I myself live in Fla and have been through 7...It all started w/hurricane David back in the late 70's...what happend there was the barrie walls colapsed off lake pont..causing rapid flooding..not a good place to be ...no way out>>glad to know you made alive..Ihate the school of hard knocks..God Bless
im from canada and we dont get notthing like that where im live but i sat there with my tv on praying for the folks and the news can do lots of things to get it out to us all over but video's like this is what brings it home.. my heart and prays are with them then and now.
when you live in a place like florida or louisiana, your used to hurricanes and dont evacuate at the drop of a hat.....you cant afford to leave every time you get threatened by a hurricane
I have lived in Florida all my life and your right, we don't evacuate until the day before a storm is suppose to hit... BUT... The Weather Channel Told us all that this would be a terrible storm... even I know it would be detrimental. fools for staying
Poor people! This is a single family's suffering & shock chronicled - this & worse occurred along the entire Gulf coast - shame on those who are so quick to send "aid" abroad but drag heels on helping our own US citizens! Folks - remember, in a time of emergency, you are on your own. Plan accordingly.
Thanks for showing what happened to the eastern part of louisiana. I will never forget hurricane katrina she took a lot of people I knew. Bless you are a survivor
Im sorry to say that but i hope america, china and india are gona sign the kyoto-protocol. We all have to treat earth better. Its a smal planet. im from switzerland and our glaciers are melting that fast!! It is incredible. Im on 1600m os in the mountains. That belongs all to a bigger thing over the whole world!
The Kyoto Protocol is not going to stop hurricanes nor stop the glaciers from melting. All of this global warming hysteria is just a bunch of scare mongering by leftists who are trying to build it as a godless religion.
My family has been on the Gulf Coast for over a hundred years and we know that hurricanes are simply a way of life. My dad saw three major ones in the 30's and 40's on the beach of Mississippi.
I am curious about your rescue. Did you have to spend another night there? We are from Denham Springs and my husband was like a crazy man. He didn't sleep for at least 4 days helping in the boat rescue. 2 of my daughters lived in New Orleans, one in Lakeside and she lost all and moved to CA the other was not as affected physically but it affected us ALL emotionally! God bless & thanks for sharing!!
I work for an electric company in Louisiana, and some of the people from St. Bernard Parish became our customers after this storm. We did everything possible to help their transition become a pleasant one. This video is so much more devastating than anything I ever saw on any t.v. or website, and believe me; I saw a lot. God bless you for your strenght and courage and I hope you are doing so much better now.

I bought a lot on Florida Avenue in Lexington two days before Katrina hit when it was heading to Florida. We decided for now to re-build our old house in Chalmette. Some unbelivable footage there.
Lexington was a beautiful neighborhood. I never saw it before Katrina, only after. I never thought I'd see such devastation - much worse than what the news showed. Thanks for posting this video. I hope your life is getting back on track.
