  • powersteering? what year mr2 is this

  • if your driving instructor was next to you i think he might have failed you for breaking traffic rules once or twice. Lol

  • You're pretty good, driftfing an MR2 and not wrecking it....nice!!

  • If I was driving I would have hit that lamp post at least twice.

  • was this a turbo? do you think you can do this with the 156hp NA?

  • Everyone knows about the snap oversteer, but to the guys saying they rarley understeer you are very much mistaken, even with the spare wheel in mr2's lack front wheel traction due to their being no weight over the front wheels, even the stock bumper is plastic, you understeer into corners and then snap oversteer on the way out, they are really not ideal drift cars, bmw 3 series make nice cheep drifters and dare i say it....mx5's :P FR is the way foreward imo

  • Good stuff!

  • ugly ass road

  • I wish there's a place like this around my area where I can practice all day every weekends.

  • nice job, it's hard to keep a mid engine car from spinning out, especially since MR2s are very prone to snap oversteer

  • actually, MR2s are hard to drift because: it's hard to make it slide, it has understeer. if ever you make it in a slide, it would hard to bring it back to a straight, it has oversteer.

So yea, mid-engines are mainly for gripping the track.

  • the mr2 i drove didnt have much under...steer, especially when we were drifting it...yes the dynamics of most mid-engine (sports)cars is to increase it's grip on the track...but i was referring to drifting only...which the mr2 is prone to snap-oversteer and spinning out, for example, drifting through a chicane where you have to go left then right, the weight distribution of the mid-engine (WHILE DRIFTING) makes it difficult to control, often causing snap oversteer and the car spinning out.

  • not exactilly, but your on the right track, all mid engine cars have something called snap oversteer, they rarely understeer. and its almost impossible to get out of it after you have gone and gotten your self into some snap over steer, it only happens when you are at peek cornering ability of the car, then any slight movement of the throtal brake or steering can throw the car into over steer, if you are not ready, it can be a deaster!!!

  • my mr2 would fall apart if i did that :/

  • road shit

  • Around 1:15... clean ass slide man. Gold stars for you.

(P.S. I'll post some vids when I get my mr2 here late june early july :3!!!! Too excited)

  • i know there is a very fine line between letting it slide and losing controll of it once you lose traction, but to me it sounded as if you were not exactly using the gears to there greatest potential and not exactly giving it alot of hell to keep it sideways..

  • No turbo!

  • dude you have bars

  • turbo?

  • skillz!!!!

  • I know it sounds weird but that reminds me of project torque.

  • at least you had the smarts to do it where no oine was and you wore a helmet 5 starts

  • That road looks like you would need new ball joints after 5 minutes of regular driving let alone drifting...

  • hey Jw. Could someone explain the difference between understeer and oversteer?

  • Understeer is when you continue to move in a straight line when trying to turn (ie plowing).

Oversteer is when the back end tries to overtake the front (ie sliding or drifting)

  • thats alot of under

  • the 1.00 was pretty kwl

  • That looked fun!

  • Cool!

  • you blew a stop sign!! :O

  • very nicely done my friend!

  • Where is a good place to get an MR2 on the web like craigslist or something, at 1:15 you kinda lost control

  • autotrader or ebay...craigslist can be scammy so be careful.

  • lost control? just a little ambitious :p haha

  • Damn that place looks like alot of fun!!!! Nice job!!!

  • damn i wish that was there when I was in flint...

  • Holy hell, that place looks like a dream come true! Flint Mi? Nice! I live one state over (Wisconsin). The only place I can think of that is even similar is still government owned and operated, but, this looks like the same thing I would do with my AW11 if given the chance. Despite the "not wrecking the car" attitude, that was pretty big! Screw what other people say, it takes brass balls to drive an MR2 like you do in this video. This really brightened my day to see someone having fun, safely.

  • Sounds good :)

  • where is this place?? i would love to drift here. and i like yr mr2, sounds healthy ahah

  • It was in Flint, MI, but it's since been torn down, unfortunately.

  • @Raptor13x ouch flint michigan? hows the town now? still bad or getting alittle better?

  • some nice drifts =D

  • your drift entry speed is too slow

  • my "not wrecking my car" goal is too high ;)

  • then why are you drifting in the streets??... take that to the track if your "my 'not wrecking my car' goal is too high"

  • never mind

  • r u wearing a helmet???

  • No, I have a big round white shiny head with a Bell sticker on my forehead. :P

  • cool reminds me of hitman =0

  • AKA he is the Stig >D

  • @ZappFlyPL hahahaha

  • wow you ran HELLA STOP SIGNS lol... nice... is this a closed course??? cuz shoot I was like "damn I hope no cars come!!!" haha

  • haha, apparently you neglected to read the video description. :) It's an old driver education facility in Flint, MI- nothing to hit.

Too bad they bulldozed it a few years ago, it used to be a great auto-x course for my school at the time.

  • ahh my bad... but that sure loooks like fun!

  • This is nice and all, but your not drifting, your just driving aggressively.

  • yes, it is drifting. he's sliding, his car isnt pointed the way he's actually going

    its drifting

tho in an MR2 its hard to do, and you cant get the same angle as in an FR car

  • If simply "sliding" around on wet pavement is your definition of drifting, then you need to do a bit more research on the subject.

Go punch in "MR2 Drift" in Youtube's search bar and look for the video of the blue MR with an unpainted body kit, thats how drifting and mid engine car is done.

  • there is a big difference between power sliding and drifting. a power slide is where you just overpower the traction in the rear, a drift is where you control that power slide and can maintain it.

  • Looks like great fun! Nice drifting!

  • nice drifts you rock!

  • if you remove weight from the front by geting rid of the spare and removing the front bumper brace aircon rad and other bits and pieces you will find the turn in much more responsive with very little understeer. remove what you can from the rear to even things up abit

  • Way ahead of you there ;)

Weight reduction is my speciality :)

  • you can do what you want with an mr2 they can be set up for track or drift mine is set up for track and it still drifts real easy {must have good tyres tho} snows not to bad just dont go over 20mph or turn corners.

  • I found the factory toe in is way too high with the toe set to less then 0.5mm total front and rear provided better balance but still to understeery when drifting rely on the steering wheels feedback

  • holy shit what the fuck are saying

  • Seriously dude, what the hell are you trying to say? I could train a monkey to type better English.

  • after reading this and the responses you got I'd say your more intoxicated then I or born with severe brain retardation

  • LMAO!!! BTW Nice video.

  • car is not ment to be drifted...it is mr enough said lol go track race it and grip it is alot faster.

  • If you're going to type, please do so in English.

  • much mr2 drifter love

  • I agree with S15veilside. I drive an MR2, it isnt a very easy job of going drifting in that car, but its so fun and so exciting in middle of the night. Some scary ass points though on some of the downhill roads. PestVic I dont have lsd and its not a problem at all man.

  • That is exactly what i was told by some mr2 owners, that its more difficult to drift in that car. My rx7 is too easy to slide the back out. i wondered why i hardly saw any mr2 drift cars. but then again, i'm not into drifting:D

  • Dont even start drifing the turns until you know the turns. Just drive the road dont speed it for a while. Or if im wrong so I dont feel moded, you might be a grip driver??

  • Drive it like you stole it lol

  • Watch drift bible by bestmotoring. MR2 is a great car for drifting if you just learn to brake lightly and countersteer as soon as the tail starts to slide. And I'm talking now about brake drifting, not power-overs. But when practicing with an MR2, be caution. It really is a spin happy car, make sure that you have enough space when you start training..

  • LOL at posts telling mr2 is good drift car, For one, its engine location is Mid< which is almost rear, and drift car rules is that it should have more mass on front than rear. My current Se-R will probably be more suitable for drifting, Hovewer, driver did decent job, i really liked the way he countered.

  • dude you don't know shit about cars, drifting rules my ass(maybe only in D1)but in real life anything is possible. MR2 is a good drift car, an easy car to drift no, the best one out there neither, but once you master the car and learn to control it you can drift it almost like a FR car,(exept you wont get really crazy angles.

  • where is this course, it looks great

  • Dude good job man, what gear did you stay in mostly 2nd??

  • I'd pay money to drive on this course! It looks like a lot of fun!!

  • the guy is just trying to get a feel for his car...just figuring out the balace..and the Mr2 is all about balance

  • i love my turbo two. but i dont got an lsd or a track to practice :(

  • yea, i agree 1:00 and 1:14 were awesome, I try it in the rain and its freakn insane with my MR2, it slides so easy, Sometimes it happens when im normal driving lol, its kinda scary cuz I might fly off the road :D, Good Drifting, keep it goin

  • is it skate broad helmet? cuz my cusin use snowboard helmet when he practice. lol

  • nice helmet

  • plese learn how to drift before putting this pure attempt of drifting people like you give mr2's a bad name in the drifting world!!!! geeeeeeeeeeeeek

  • at least hes trying i dont see you with a drift video so blow it out your ass fwd boy.

  • hmm I am saving for an MR2.. Cant wait! with my current car i need snow to get a drift .. hehe !

  • and with snow and an mr2 you will wrap yourself around a pole if you don't have a lot of experience with mr2's lol

  • where did you find a place to do that? i mean in a driver's ed place, you were supposed to learn how to drive safely but not drift, i was just wondering how come they let you do it in a educational place. Nice one, i wish i have place to try that too. i used to owe a MR2 1nd Gen Red and 2nd Gen Black. MR2 Owns~~ Nice try

  • too jerky, but nice stuff anyhow

  • good job. 1:00 and 1:14 were nice

  • pretty sic....nice counter steering

  • lol i do this too.. should do it in the rain or when its snowing. :D
