hi there great videos btw. i have a question. i just removed the coil from my 99 accent and tested it with a multimeter and both the primary resistance and secondary resistance for both coil packs(1 and 4, 3 and 2) were fine. i then went back to check it again the next day as it had been sitting on the kitchen table and now i'm getting absolutely no reading for the secondary resistance on either coil pack! the primary resistance is still within spec, but a few decimal places higher now. thanks!
Thanks great video, Iearned about electricity the hard way as a child I tried to pee on a running lawnmower to shut it off, that is one of those lessons you only need to learn once!
@Aussie50 LIL! Yeah not to change the subject but I am looking around now for a used magneto/coil in the wrecking yards. Don't want to pay the price for a new one in the store. Great video...
The Bosch tranny looks neat. Too bad that iron cores are less suited for high frequency operations, too much of eddy currents. Otherwise i would look for one as a flyback substitute. LOL. Btw, i ever happen to melt that old one that i have, ill rather be among the first ones who switch to piezo-electric trannies.
I've taken apart the standard coils and the construction is pathetic. The Bosch coil ( the new design) is superior because of the hefty "transformer like" laminations . I have tested both designs and found that the Bosch style will pass at least 10 times the current. This is why a higher primary voltage is needed.
U luky basterd,,,,,,,,,,,, bro if only i had acces to the abundance of sht u do,
try connecting 2 of them coils in series ,it may burn up the ultra high voltage side but it would neet to see if the dielectric holds up to the 400 000v
coils you can get from cars try like a local scrap yard my school has like a box full of these old ones i can get some but im not a high voltage guy lol just computers and engines etc
Thats not a true test. Your not even close to re creating the engine cylinder conditions.

Get a diesel. It doesn't need any of that garbage.

@flabound111 the best time period in cars IMO :D,
my Jag is 4.2 decades old and still eats 3.8 EFI/Electronic ignition Commodores.

how do i know what resistor to use with my coil. I am using an MG coil that gets super hot every time i use it.
idusclothing 1 year ago
@idusclothing jsut ask your auto parts store for a '12v coil ballast resistor'. I am pretty sure there is only one rating.
its just so the coil sees 6V not 12, and dosnt boil/explode.

that looks like an old 1960's fergy coil
