I used to own a !982 Yamaha DT400F in the caribbean back in the day. I don't seem to be able to find one of those here in the US. All the DT400s I've seen so far are similar but the sound is different. The tail pipe on mine was HUGE..Mine was seriously a tank, it would stand on it's rear wheel like a horse.. I wish I can find another even if I must do some restoration I would!!!
i had a very similar 1975 yamaha DT400,it sounded identical as well...like it's got a bad upper rod bearing or something. They all sounded like that. The fins on the head amplify engine sound.Water cooling would quiet these down ALOT.Don't let this bike fool ya,they're torque monsters ! I could outclimb anyone in the neighborhood with the low seat height and torque...i'd challenge any tall 4stroker.The suspension is easily overwhelmed though. You must have a garage full of bikes rz500 !
Check out my video of my buddies 1978 dt 250. The guy who had it before him stripped it so its good for off road. The guy took the mirrors and the speedometer the plastics and the rear fender all off. It looks pretty cool
i was just given an old yamaha enduro, i have the title for it, it say its a 1971 and the bike says its an enduro 400, i cant find any information on the bike, it looks exactly like a 75ish DT400 however i dont think they made the DT's in 71, can you help??
nice dt man i have a 1978 dt 400 in great shape im just wondering ... do you know where i can find the stickers for the yellow side casses under the seat that say 400 Enduro ???
Creatively installing IT 400 parts - pipe, carb, cylinder will really make it more fun. I had a DT-175E and a IT-175F at different times and worked on other old Yamahas. The IT parts generally will move right on to the DT's and make them much more fun to ride.
By chance did you buy that in GA? I sold 1 like that in 1992ish. I put a YZ250 front fender on mine. Mine had a rack on the back, but I know the new owner took it off. Fool. I miss my old bike, even though the new stuff is far supior.
Mine doesn't run it is a pos

Hi Yamerz.
Yea the DT's are a good value.
and you can go far with one. and if you run low on gas?
then your not stuck like a MXer with premix.
you can fill it up aat a station.and not be stuck like a dirt bike.

I like MX bikes but an enduro make's alot more sense if your out far away and
need gas and dont have premix,
you just got to a station with pump gas fill it up and there it is,
