I would love to experience life there for a few months, but I don't suppose unless you're a geology (or at least, in some kind of research-based profession) you could do something like this?
You mention tourists, can you go and stay there for a while??
@adamlyons87 Yea to go there you either need to be a researcher and get a project funded to go there, work for one of those researchers (like me), get a job with RPSC supporting the research there (i.e. work in the kitchen), or pay a lot of money for an adventure trip down there (as a 'tourist').
I live in south maine and that dome is awesome. Just used for storage compared to all the other red buildings in there before the new south pole station was constructed. The dome is lucky to have lasted now for 33 years cause if you watch Modern Marvels they say buildings have a lifespan of just 20 years at the south pole. 8 inches of snow permitantly accumulates every year. Not a good place to put stuff because it might be hard to guess how many years before the dome will finally, collapse.
You should read... Dark Winter by William Dietrich. It is a psychological thriller, set around this same dome. Lol good book, you saying that is was pretty freaky, read the book, you have no idea. It is also on google books.
Not sure about the UFO base, but the entrance to Hollow Earth is between the beer can and the dome, on your right just before you get to the power plant. I've got a photo of it in my flickr set from my Dec 2005 visit. Follow the links from the URL listed in my YouTube profile here.

do you think you can survive out their with only a hunting rifle and a heavy coat
ZackAttack261 1 year ago
@ZackAttack261 No. The rifle would be useless, there's nothing to hunt there (except of course the people working down there and a few tourists).

I think I've read that a geodesic-type dome is the strongest type of structure. Maybe that's why it has outlasted the predicted 20 years.
