If you feel like it, could you do one for men's? I'm a girl, but I'm dying to dress up as Dr. Jekyll for Halloween with a silent-film spin on the costume, but I don't like any movie that has been made of that novel to this day from which I could copy. I'm designing and sewing the whole thing from scratch!
Even if you don't feel like it, I'll still be able to take some pointers from this, so thank you! :-)
it would have been great if you had showed how to apply the make up. I mean, start with a clean face and apply make up step by step, instead of always showing the final product.
You should do a tutorial showing how you did your makeup because yours looks the best out of anybody else's i have seen and i have been looking for a tutorial on a real 1920's look for the longest time :/ It would be awesome if you did that.
When you said "Draw your inspiration from Clara Bow" I DIED. The reason that I was looking for a 1920's makeup tutorial is because I look JUST LIKE HER. It's creepy. I wanted to see if it would be even creepier to do my makeup like her as well. :P I seriously believe I was her in my past life...
Thank you so much for the insight this video is very helpful! I'm very inspired by this time era and I must say you pulled it off perfectly! You could have been an actress for all I knew! hahaha I enjoyed watching and cannot emphasize how much these videos make my day. If I could give it thumbs up as many times as I can I would give you about a million. You are awesome. Lots and lots and lots and lots of love!
Hey! I just wanted to tell you that I attended my high school's Senior Night where the theme was 1920s Las Vegas. I just got back home and I wanted to let you know that your tutorial helped me to win first place for Best Female Costume! Thanks so much!! :D
Would like to see more added to this tutorial. Tools, etc. Its seems more about just looking at the finished piece and not the actual application. Great concept though!
This is the most authentic looking 1920's makeup tutorial on Youtube. Most others in fact show modern interpretations rather than the actual period correct style.
@saxismyaxe This is more a showcase of the finished product and not a tutorial where tools are used and followed with instructions. I'd like to see a part 2 that goes more in depth. Intro was way to long. We get that she's cute. Explain how. This video is more of a tribute that a tutorial.
Awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing! I really needed this for a film I'm working on. Any chance you could help me out with male makeup of this period?
The reason silent movies jump around on the screen, is because they are oversped on sound projectors at 24 frames a second. The correct speed for silent films is 18 frames a second. Projected at the correct speed, they are perfectly smooth.

@ActsOfElegance Sorry, is an answer or question? I believe that "in the mood" is a plagiarism. My native language is Spanish, I hope that you understand me, Greetings from Argentina.
this is a great video but its INTENSELY annoying when it comes to actuall progress done with 20's makeup.
It's distracting and focuses too much on everything else but makeup and when it finally gets down to it, it's hard to focus and all the important parts are brushed past.
all of the straight forward points are blurred with effects and subtitles.
you did a great job with the makeup and the video but as a tutorial it sucks. sorry man.
Thanks for such an awesome video- there are tons of tutorials on jazz makeup, but nobody has the little details (eyebrows, the triangle of eye makeup) you do that make this look truly authentic.
You are a doll!!!! Thank you! I assume, when you ask for a hairstyle video, that you are referring to the hair in this video, yes? You would not be the first to ask.
I've been thinking of doing one. But that means you'll just have to subscribe so that you know when it gets posted! ;)
awsome ....cant tell how mauch this vid helped me to be a star at out murder mystery dinner party (it took place in the year 1929) ...by the way , your vid is good too, what program do you use to get that old film effect????
By far the greatest makeup tutorial i have yet to behold! I love the silent film effect and 20s style. I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks and i think i'll try this out for it! Perhaps a slightly muted version...
I suddenly have an inkling of where Siouxsie Sioux got her inspiration from!
OMG! i wish u did this before halloween! we had a school festival and each class had a decade. we had the 20's and all the girls were flappers. last october i was trying to find a simple video like this and i couldnt really find that many that taught how to do cupids bow lips or Clara bow lips. all well...
My tutorial is uploading now. I am not as happy w/ it as I wanted to be. The dialogue cards were a bit tricky and i should have 'mimed ' the application instead of attempting to do it on camera.

Thank you very much! It's a cloche hat, which were very popular during this era and get their name from the French word for "bell" because of their shape.
I got mine from an antique store. It is VERY hard to find a good one, but I've been flirting with the idea of putting this particular one up on ebay.
Could I ask what you mean by all the way? I love flapper looks. My sister has always unintentionally looked like a flapper and she doesnt even have to try. So she fascinates me.
You don't need to. The easiest way is to take an eyebrow spoolie [I don't know what else to call it], get it just a LITTLE bit damp, and rub it on a bar of soap. Comb it onto your eyebrow. That should plaster the hair down. Then go over it with makeup.
Otherwise they do sell products specifically for hiding your current eyebrows, but this DIY way is cheaper and works just as well.
Actually, user PIXIWOO shows how to do this in her flapper makeup video.
