Love how high and mighty people get saying cockroaches are pests, are useless, etc. Cockroaches have been around for billions of years. They are one of the oldest creatures on the planet, like sharks, and they are evolutionary perfection. They are built for survival. Cut off a cockroach's head, it can live for 3 months. It's immune to almost all diseases. It can pass on any immunity to poisons it develops onto the next generation. Let's see you live for 3 minutes without a head...
PEOPLE!!! get a fucking life, you are making fucking book reports on weither cockroacches are important to earth or not....get a grip and get a fucking life!
It's funny, a lot of people I know call the big roaches waterbugs. That's only because they are not very educated about insect/bugs or anything else that really crawls.
@silentopinion actually it derives from the fact that the giant water bug is related to the cockroach, and they look similar. also closely related to the mantises
@silentopinion the "big roaches" are German cockroaches, they just call them water bugs now witch makes sense since theyre not only found in Germany anymore.
@MRhydrogen100 Yeah, all your points are true. They look alike. The main difference is the Giant water bug has the sucking mouth parts, I can't remember how to spell at the moment, and they are supposed to have a mild poison as well. Roaches can nip you sometimes, it's happened to me before.
@silentopinion yeah a giant water bug mouth is like a proboscis of sorts, ive never been biten by a cockroach before but i hear the giant water bugs bite hurts like hell
@MRhydrogen100 I haven't been bitten by a water bug myself, but I've been bitten by other bugs like it. Not very pleasant. A roach doesn't bite intentionally, they like to snack on dead skin, but it's a little bit worse than an ant bite without the sting. I've been woken up by a roach nip.
@silentopinion WHEW, sounds unpleasant, i was once bitten by a strange insect that had a nest in a tree in our yard, picked him up and it shoved a proboscis under my finger nail, hurts like a sonofabitch.
@MRhydrogen100 It's probably another true bug. The thing that actually separates true bugs from insects, is that bugs have the proboscis and the amount of wings. True bugs usually have 1 pair of wings, while insects normally have like 2 pairs. But both are in the same category pretty much, but they are still different in a way. Sort of like how harvestmen and spiders are arachnids, but they are different.
@silentopinion had no idea! thats goodto know, very interesting i'll investigate bugs more thoroughly from now on. my bearded dragon might like a giant water bug for a snack!
Cockroaches serve a role in nature or they wouldn't exist. Then humans came along recently and created perfect habitats and started leaving cockroach food all over the place (calling them houses and crumbs).
@bugsincyberspace actually, they are somewhat useless....what's the point of a bug juggernaut (or buggernaut), if it can make thousands of perfect children, shit all over everything, and seige huge areas? It's what happens when evoulution becomes too perfect. Good thing they are easy to kill. You can say the same thing about ants and etc., but ants collect some food, and make mini-mines. What's wrong with that? Humans and cockroaches are probably the 2 most terrible creatures on the earth.
@starzoc00 I can imagine a perspective of uselessness in a world of concrete and grass lawns, but even then you're wrong. Nature doesn't care what you think. If there's a niche under your microwave or in a virgin rainforest, "life will find a way". Further, cockroaches did not evolve to live in your dirty apartment. They just stay there because it is ideal. Even the (fewer than) 1% of roach species that are "pests" are in perfect harmony with their natural environment, until humans alter it.
@bugsincyberspace Well, I don't live in an apartment :D. And also, it doesn't bother you that pretty much everything has died, but cockroaches have been around for a pretty damn long time? And last time I checked, they don't seem to be doing that bad. WHEN THE FUCK ARE THEY GOING TO DIE!!!
@tmlkrs Exactly. They're around because they're survivors and can adapt. If 99% of all living things are extinct, what does that say about roaches? They're also nature's garbage men.
@bugsincyberspace Not all humans, Bamboo villages in south Asia would be a horrible place for cockroaches, you are either an ignorant person or one who makes things up to look smart.
yeah!! kill that roach i hate roaches. i can stand spiders, flys, ants, moths, lizards, snakes, and lots of other stuff but not roaches. if i'm wrong correct me, but i think roaches are the only creatures on this planet that are practically useless. in fact they do more harm than good, those nasty little punks!
Giant waterbugs are not easy to discover because they camouflage into their natural environment. But with a little determination they always reveal themselves!
@IDariusTheGreat I don't believe the words I used were very big, nor was my tone condescending. I simply feel that greeneyes61's message of hate and cultural bias is modern, and reflects a very negative, self-defeating perspective at best. I do hope that "Darius The Great" respresents himself and not the majority of Germany--a culture, by the way, that is far superior to the US in terms of embracing the pet arthropod hobby.
why dont the giant water bugs stay out doors in the water why do they come in the house and walk on your walls and fly and land on you 2 inches long i hate them
@geeneyes61 While many cultures in the world have joined the, forward, evolutionary path of this insect on planet Earth, the attitudes, if not certain human groups themselves, have clearly devolved. Some view these insects as important components of ecosystems. Others eat them. Still others build structures they call homes and misuse the gift of consiousness, to the ignorant and selfish exclusion of the rest of life.
-You are correct--one can never tell! (nice username, CGF. Exactly why my kids don't have permission to surf this site alone!) [We all grow up eventually.]
The music's great. I want title cards,
