too much extraneous action. not bad, but is that seriously a serated knife?? you'd get killed in a professional kitchen using a serated knife for anything other than cutting bread. lol. but yeah, cutting with your wrist moving the whole arc = slow. making the knife point arc and pivoting with your wrist = much faster.
re: my last post... just watched the vid again. you seem to be slicing left handed at times and right handed other moments. is that camera trickery or are you freakishly ambidextrous?
no offence meant, but you're not that fast. i reckon if you used a santoku or any decent sharp chef's knife and bring the knife down on the onion (as opposed to sliding the blade across) you could get even faster.
however, i do chop about 20 onions a day at work, so maybe i've just got my chef's head on!
@uppercut999... i'd recommend trying one out. i use an anolon 7" santoku as my main utility knife, its got a good weight and balance and can't be beaten for rapid chopping.
if you get one, i'll look forward to your next vid!
@uppercut999 P.S. its always good to see another left handed chef out there. avoid global knives as japanese steel always has a 70/30 split on the blade edge which is biased towards the right handers. it sounds stupid but it's true!
Hahaha...I like the line "...Its what I like to do" " Sure I may have a day job that pays me...but when I get home at the end of the day, and I have a stress load of work to do...I just like to slice Onions...ahhh, thats gods greatest gift to man..." Hahahaha thats what I think when I watch this video. Awsome. Kudos sir. ;)
Hmmm...interesting. I'll try chopping my onions like that. I like to cook and all....I use an onion that's not refrigerated...so I have to stop every now and then to stop the itchiness in my eyes.
Nope. Thats as it is, shot from a camera phone. Drop me a line if you're ever in Hyderabad, India.. I'd be more than happy to give you a live demo. :)
Actually I wanna know how much did it take you to get to this point? I mean how much time how much training?

@UCLASeraph I agree. this is a slower technique. I was just fooling around in my mom's kitchen, hence the serrated blade. :)

@alanpriceproject Ah! I'd like to say that i'm freakishly ambidextrous but unfortunately, its just how my old Nokia 3250 mixed the video. :)

the trick on how not to cry when slicing onions is to pre skin them, chill them in a frdge and cut in a well ventilated room.
