Hi I dont konw if your figured out the issue but this is called pinking, this is where the fuel is ignitted before the piston reaches TDC (top dead centre) also known as KNOCK this will happen if you have faulty or worn glow plugs. It means your cylinders are getting to hot. You will need to take to a garage to have this solved as it could be a range of problems, your best bet is to drain and re fill the coolant. Make sure the coolant is flowing properly.

Are you using 91 grade fuel?? it sounds like its pinging.

Is this a 2003? I say that because the jackhammer sounds you are referring to, probably were oil pump related, which was one of the 2003's problems.
