I guarantee that if this work were played more often it would bring down the house anywhere in the world. Hyperion Records has produced a series of forgotten Romantic piano concertos - many of which haven't been played in well over a century. Some are just OK, but many are superb and richly deserving of revival. Hopefully, Castro's concerto will make it on to that series as it certainly merits a decent studio recording.
Hola. I love them!
This polonaise finale, premiered in Antwerp, always has a way of lifting my spirits. Especially its fluent modulations! And the brass are in top form! A magisterial artistic expression by a great Mexican composer.
Awesome! Absolutely marvelous concerto! Shame Castro is SO under-rated. But I do sense a lot of Slavonic nuances in his music. Which makes it even more interesting to me. The 3rd movement of the concerto reminds me in a way of Napravnik piano concerto.
