There is nothing wrong with being gay. At all. Nothing. I grew up mormon, I understand the social pressure, but you will never be happy if you try to conform. Don't do it.
In Dan's extended interview he speaks very candidly about his relationship to religion. When he first came out he felt very strongly that he could remain LDS and live as a gay man. After about 1 year of pushing against a big immovable system, he was less optimistic but no less religious.
I guess your 'enlightened' advice is to suppress his natural homosexual attractions and must live a celibate life?
Or do you want him to live in a relationship with a women which, according to the video, was obviously not going to bring him any peace or hapinness, to him and consequently to the spouse?
I know gay christians in relationships that cherish life and worship God with all their heart. If you think that expressing their love to someone different is disturbing then that, imo, is more of a personal and religious(not holy) tendency.
I appreciate you point of view and passion for the subject. I commend you both for sharing your perspective. My hope is that more interviews like this will shed better light on the complexity of the issues that Dan and others experience. Their experiences are made with complete honesty. A courageous and generous act which is not up for debate. Their are better forums for discussing religion. - An Dinh
An Dinh, wheres this forum you talk about that I can discuss religion.
'Infallible' religious views can not see past their own two eyes imo, thats the only reason i speak on these 'forums'. Was trying to defend what Daniel was expressing that was being undermined and made irrelevant by Hiveradical.
"Polygamist tendencies... that strikes a cord with machismo and promiscuity."
Only if you permit those tendencies to take you beyond the bounds of what God has sanctioned. That's all I'm saying, we all have aspects of our nature, parts of 'who we are' that we are intended to purge from ourselves with the help of God's grace. We all have components of this that are very difficult for us while not inherently being difficult for everyone else. May we all find the strength from God to eschew evil.
I appreciate your perspective on the story that Dan shares in his interview. I would prefer it if you clearly express your comments as your personal views/truth. Some of your comments are made in broad enough brush strokes to be taken as "preaching" and this is not the forum.
that any difficulty, no matter the strength it has in our flesh, can be overcome through faith in Christ's grace and power. We must not let the natural man define us, because that would be allowing death to define us. Let all our 'deaths', our separations, be overcome.
I have no issues with you brother. I'm a good member and feel that your no different then anyone else in the church. Please don't let members get you down. I'm grateful you have had the strength to share it with everyone. That's cool
