when i was a young ladi remember seeing him in George Sharmans book " carp and the carp angler " he was holding a 43lb redmire common....i was in awe of the bloke, one of the greats, a true alround angler and a very good photographer-writer.....any disrepectful comments made toward him make me smile...
@cadinalrule George Sharmans book is what inspired me entirely. I remember my dad giving it to me on my tenth birthday as it was his and buying me my first full sized rod and sending me off to the local pond...
@eSuKxGAMING I was carp angling back then when i bought Georges book...And what a breath of fresh air it was, hutchies chapter in the back was awesome...
much enjoyed this series of videos you posted. If only people would go back to the old ways, i am 18 and would rather fish like chris than use the tackle made now. fishing is getting much too technical nowadays, and i feel that i have sadly missed out on this type of angling. in my view this is what fishing should be. Thanks carpcatcher8 for this insight into the old ways of fishing. :)
This is carp fishing as I remember it. Pure, simple and truly magical. I still dream of takes using freelined floating crust and float fished cheese at my local lake when I was in my teens. Mk IV carp rod, Mitchell 300 and 4-6 lb line. This video has given me a burning desire to take up fishing again after a 30 year break. When I do, it will be with a 'back to basics' approach, of that I am sure !
Thanks, CarpCatcher8, for taking the trouble to post a wonderful set of vids.
Apologies if he has a mat :o) I bought the original passion for angling donkeys years ago on Vhs and thats what got me into fishing in general, just excellent stuff.
Anyone else, Matt Hayes, Danny Fair ass, Anyone and people would be moaning about no unhooking mat, holding it to high, not leaving it the water for abit after netting to let it recover a little blah blah but not Chris, lol abit unfair i feel, however having said that Chris is a legend in his own right and if more people took his frame of mind with them when they trotted off for a session then they would greatly benefit.
I met this great angler at the first Carp Society conference about a hundred years ago and he was every bit as kind and knowledgeable as he seems on the video. What a pleasure to watch his simple but crafty style of angling. Thanks.
Watching Chris Yates on you tube is why I took fishing up again after many years of bringing up a family and trying to keep the wolf from the door. Now I have more time its a joy to watch him and like him I try to keep it simple and enjoy nature and my surroundings while on the water. I love Chris's philosophy to fishing. Thanks for posting.
I remember buying the copy of Angling Magazine in 1980 with your man Yatesy on the cover with his Redmire 51 1/2 pounder. This fella is why I fish for carp and thats why my kids fish for carp...
It doesn't matter how old you are it doesnt matter if we were born with a silver spoon in our mouth it doesnt matter one bit whether you come off a housing estate or a leafy village. When the carp takes your bait we all feel the same..Its magic.
this man along with bob james are 2 of my fishing heros, i cant get enough of their simple honest waym plus i love the way chris makes you fall in love with fishing without ever picking up a rod.
its not horrible quality atall whoever said that, but its gettin there. You can still see everything unless ur face is an inch away from the screen but its fine and a joy to watch. and u can learn alot from listening to this bloke.
he's got massive balls !

why he isn´t using an unhookingmat???????
muubuk 2 years ago
this was a bit before mats i think. he's a minimal kit sort of guy, you could hardly say he's not taking care of the fish
blanksight 2 years ago 3
he even gives the fish counseling.

Chris Yates is a legend. He dresses like a bumpkin, talks like a hippee, but pulls fish out like Chuck Norris!
