Can someone clarify...is there a race for boys, one for girls and one for mixed crews? Do they all race together but get ranked on different charts? how does it work? Sorry, basic questions I know, I'm just curious...

im thnkin of movin up 2 a 29er after sailing my 420 for a season which is a bit under powered, do u think a 29er wud b a gd idea or mab sumin bigger?

very good idea i did that exactly and we carve up in the 29ers cause me and my helm got a partniship in the 420 so we know how we sail.but we got bored and moved up to 29er and r lovein it

deffinetely do it, i just bought my first 29er, i've only had it out once but i already love it! I raced 420's for three seasons and just got bored of them, plus my crew left me so I figured a 29er would be better and now i have a new crew and we're looking forward to a promising season of racing!

the skipper does hold the main sheet down wind. it's easier and once the crew gets a feel for the main it is also alot faster whilst going upwind

Also... why do the crews always hold the mainsheet? Surely it would be easier for the helm to hold it because he can tell when the boat is going to tip because he has the rudder....

that's the way skiffs are sailed upwind.

when the skiff has the main, they can feel pressure changing and keep the boat flat by adjusting both the sail and trap.

tipping has nothing to with it, really.

On this boat it is a lot better for the crew to have the mainsheet... I crew my 29er and m helm started off holding the main sheet.... Because he isn't on the wire he doesn't know if we need more power or not... its the crews job to keep the boat flat and the helms job to steer... at first i didn't think it was a very good idea but you soon realize that its essential for the crew to have the main

no no of couse not. cause when you are the crew ypu are the one who feels when the pressur are too much for youself you have to let go of the mainsheet a litte cause the helm don't know when it becomes to much for the crew to handle
