Frankly, I find this video absolutely amazing. Not only is the bloke damn good, but he and the video capture the insanity of the theme perfectly. And of course he's not the "best," but I'd take him over any of those Mormons because he has a sense of self and reality.

Hey, this is the Mundelein University organ jealously watched over my the late John Peters.
He would only let young, thin and handsome boys work on the organ. This guy is rather good in a off- beat manner. If ANYONE made a disparaging remark about the organ, Peters would cause legal trouble for the culpret.
Contrary to opinions of some who have no appreciation of talent (like most in our sad society) this is an excellent performance. Of course not the worlds best, but i think that's obviously tongue in cheek. It was obviously a home video but a good one. So i don't get the criticism except maybe some people have nothing better to do with their sorry lives. To the performer (and videographer) ...Great work, Keep it up... and ignore the ignorant crticism.
World's Best? Sheesh! Not by a long shot. Skilled, sure. Adequate perhaps. Mashed up the Middelschulte a bit. Sort of like Mom is the best cook ever... until your tastes become more developed, this is all you have. Fluff pieces allow for lots of, lets call it leeway. Not that this is a bad thing, it is just there is a line between sloppy and musical/artistic freedom. World's Best Organ Player? No! Check Virgil Fox, Carlo Curley, Cameron Carpenter for starters. The list is huge.
Reminds me a bit of a crazy Spike Milligan type character. A nutty professor type. Good player though. Not the worlds best though. I don't know how you'd classify that. Certainly enjoying himself though which is the main thing. I enjoyed it
Cameron Carpenter or Lew Williams, both are vying for the title. I lean more toward Lew myself. Cameron is good don't get me wrong, but Lew has a certain mastery of the theater organ which raises him slightly.

I had never heard the song "Tico, Tico" played on a real theater pipe organ. Where is this organ located at? So sad that no one will appreciate a real theater pipe organ as there is a big difference between digital and the real thing. I played a real pipe organ at my home parish, but never a threater pipe organ. I prefer electronic such as a Thomas, Wersi or a Lowrey than the real thing. Very good playing!

I know this guy. he is actually rather good. I takes an experienced organist to play this type of music. The alternative is someone memorizing a Bach piece and play it back the same way every time!! We could train a monkey, theoretically.etc . Besides, John Peters watched this organ and only his few favorites played it (young, male tall and thin). It is owned by the Catholic church seminary in Mundelein Illinois.
I will give him props for doing something i've have yet to try but always thought about doing and playing with both feet. not my particular kind of music but he's not bad(it's hard to give anyone the title THE BEST unless they participate in a WORLD CONTEST in whatever to make it official. Man, tough crowd. My reaction was "Best??? What the hell makes him best??" "Best" is a pretty tall order, but he IS pretty good, give some credit. Looks to me like a little impromptu screwing around for the heluvit, I don't have a problem with that and theater organ is all about numerous registration changes so who cares. I'd go hear him play.
@jsamin This gentleman is very good but certainly not in the same class as George Wright who was a true genius! No one even comes close to his recordings on the Wurltzer Theatre Organ.
@Chuckwsr If you enjoy the abilities of George Wright, then you would certainly appreciate a phenomenal gentleman by the name of Daniel Roth - who was appointed the prestigious titular organist at Église Saint-Sulpice in Paris from 1973 through to 1985. Is Roth considered genius by some? perhaps - I believe that he would be more fitfully given title akin more to ethereal, other-worldy perhaps...possibly even musically anomalous. The man's mind operates far beyond that of Human Capability.
Where was the skill or did I miss something ? Someone should remind this character that these things have to be maintained. What a horrible racket. Still if he enjoyed it......................
This should be re-labeled as "NOT The World's Best Organ Player". I wouldn't even consider hiring this guy to play for a bunch of drunkards down at the mission. This guy has absolutely no form or structure and judging by his "hunt and peck" method of voicing, he has no musical training and plays by ear. I don't like this organ player and to say this person represents the organist community is a stretch from way out in the left field. WGN-Chicago should be ashamed of themselves.
Well he plays fast but speed doesn't make a good organist . There is what I call a lot of double keying . In other words 1 finger is hitting 2 keys at the same time etc. He needs to go back to the basics & start over.
@captainsunder009 Back-in-the-day I could. I just bought an Allen Q311SP after a 20 year organ playing gap. I'll work on getting back up to speed. However, just what is it with folks like you have have the warped mentality that someone is not qualified to evaluate something unless you can do it better?? You certainly don't have to be a 747 Captain to recoginize a bad landing -- now to you?? Read some of the other comments. I doubt you play yourself, which is wny you're so easily impressed.

Man, tough crowd. My reaction was "Best??? What the hell makes him best??" "Best" is a pretty tall order, but he IS pretty good, give some credit. Looks to me like a little impromptu screwing around for the heluvit, I don't have a problem with that and theater organ is all about numerous registration changes so who cares. I'd go hear him play.

@jsamin This gentleman is very good but certainly not in the same class as George Wright who was a true genius! No one even comes close to his recordings on the Wurltzer Theatre Organ.

@Chuckwsr If you enjoy the abilities of George Wright, then you would certainly appreciate a phenomenal gentleman by the name of Daniel Roth - who was appointed the prestigious titular organist at Église Saint-Sulpice in Paris from 1973 through to 1985. Is Roth considered genius by some? perhaps - I believe that he would be more fitfully given title akin more to ethereal, other-worldy perhaps...possibly even musically anomalous. The man's mind operates far beyond that of Human Capability.

This should be re-labeled as "NOT The World's Best Organ Player". I wouldn't even consider hiring this guy to play for a bunch of drunkards down at the mission. This guy has absolutely no form or structure and judging by his "hunt and peck" method of voicing, he has no musical training and plays by ear. I don't like this organ player and to say this person represents the organist community is a stretch from way out in the left field. WGN-Chicago should be ashamed of themselves.

Well he plays fast but speed doesn't make a good organist . There is what I call a lot of double keying . In other words 1 finger is hitting 2 keys at the same time etc. He needs to go back to the basics & start over.

@captainsunder009 Back-in-the-day I could. I just bought an Allen Q311SP after a 20 year organ playing gap. I'll work on getting back up to speed. However, just what is it with folks like you have have the warped mentality that someone is not qualified to evaluate something unless you can do it better?? You certainly don't have to be a 747 Captain to recoginize a bad landing -- now to you?? Read some of the other comments. I doubt you play yourself, which is wny you're so easily impressed.

@victor8x10 I don't play, but I checked your channel and you don't have any videos. You know what, I used to comment on people like that as well for piano. I had no videos so people said, then show proof and I did. If you cannot show people evidence then they have every right to bag you out. I am not easily impressed. It wasn't the best (I never said it was), but it certainly sounded nice and people have every right to like it. To call him a hack is just sheer arrogance.

If you think a comment is poor or rude, that should not change based on the commentors musical skill. If I owned a movie theatre I'd hire him to play. I like it too. But he makes a lot of mistakes and does a poor job of registration changes. I don't mean "hack" in the way you are interpeting it. "Worlds best"? Come on.

All I am saying is that despite it not being the best, unless you are some hardcore organist and if youo ignore the stupid title which all people make those titles to make their video popular, it sounds cool. @billy12080 He's fairly classic all the same man, I used to play Buxtehude and Bach back in the day, got a scholarship n all. But to be honest, this is where its at. Complete mentalism is more rock and roll realistically. This man is very wired, wired to what I don't know, but its still groovy. World's most insane looking organist might be more apt though, I suppose
