Being put in a monastery and missing out on life? You're forgetting something very important, that when studied and when interviewed these children and these monks attest to being perfectly happy and content. Research supports higher levels of brain activity in the regions where happiness functions than in many western children... who grow up being depressed, doing drugs, being promiscuous, and where the suicide rate is higher.

The young children who are placed in the monasteries are not deprived of the life of a young children. They're not force to stay there. On top of that, they may leave any time they wish. Very often these children are very poor to th extent that their parents are not able to feed them. If they grow up with their parents, they'll probably be illiterate .

When they live in a monastery, they can have proper food and study up to tertiary level as they wish. They may disrobe if they wish.

I agree, children should be aloud to believe what they want and choose what kind of religion they connect with when they understand it a little deeper. I also think that putting an infant in a monastary sort of defeats the purpose of being a monk. I would think that in order to gain enlightenment, you would need to experience the things you want to overcome in every day life. What would there be to question, besides being forced into a monastary?

well firstly buddhist monks don't take a vow of poverty, thats what christian monks do. the original buddha discovered that living as an ascetic in poverty is not the right way and he was disowned by his disciples for it. buddhists follow the middle way, they dont have to live in poverty as long as they dont live in excess either. enjoying one'sself by singing is not disallowed in buddhism.

I would think that depends on how he recieves the fame and profits. He seems humble enough, and I doubt he's going around driving a Mercedes. The Buddah was famous and had people from all over come and listen to him, he used his fame to spread his message rather than himself, It seems this man is following in the same foot steps. He should be cautious of his actions and careful not to be lead astray but it sounds like he's being a good monk.
