I use this amp to gig with. Don, great playing. Anyway, this amp is really something. I have one, stock, that I push a homemade 1x12 cab with a Celestion G12-80, the one that comes in the HRDx extension cab at practice. I have the channel switching pedal and it works flawlessly. The other has a Ragin' Cajun and it pushes a 2X12 cab when it's not being used by itself. It's the gig rig, of course I have the channel switcher for that one, too.
great sound i have this amp also and love the #7 voicing i think its def the best genuine sound......what are your treble and bass settings on this video?
with single coil pickups you get 60 cycle hum ..the higher the gain on the amp the louder it gets..run a humbucker or hot rails to eliminate or use the middle pickup(its wired reverse) to stop the hum..but that changes the great rear or front tone a bit... by the way ..way cool picking..i have the same amp and a mim strat with am std pickups.
@johncartelli when I want to get loud...I plug the line out of the super champ into the line in on the back of my Fender Concert 60 watt tube combo amp....Wow...all that tone and screamin loud..way cool...
i'm thinking of buying this amp but i keep listening to feedback noise in the background which is making me a little doubtful. is it always like that or is it an electric/cabele thing?
I will say, I use two different guitars live (Ibanez AF75 with humbuckers, and a Schecter strategy with, ofc, single coils), and both have hum, as usual. However, bridge pup is basically unplayable because of how hot it is. However, unless I roll my tone all the way back on my Ibanez, that too hums like no ones business.
i have a scxd and i cant get even close to that kinda tone so im wondering what settings your using. effects, gain, treble, bass, and well effect level. THANKS A LOT!!!
oh can you tell me the settings for the other stuff you did with the SCXD too?
everything you play is just so splendid and great sounding. its probably your guitar skills but it really sounds sweet
... last thing...which pickup do you use for the majority of the song?
Great stuff Don...keep up the good work. I really appreciate your explanations of what your doing, settings, etc. Thanks for that. Check out my original songs on my channel when you get a chance. Peace.
Hello Don, I have a super champ and it's really great and I am lucky to have an Eric Clapton Stratt, What would an IBanez Tube screamer do or provide in combination with the voicings of the super champ. Any thoughts, I am new to all this and any comment would help.
There is an acoustic sound difference..maple tends to be a bit brighter...suttle but apparent...it's more about the feel than the sound...if you have a tendency to sweat alot ..the Rosewood might feel better....all about preference
I'm sitting in front of a lot of computer screens and it gets a lot of interference stuff from them...old strats also tend to be a bit more noisy...the cable and insulation has come a long way...
Thanks Don, I bought Tone Zone pickup and I will change the setup. One tone pot for all the pickups, i think is better. Happy Christmas for all the family and all the guitar players of this world. God bless you.
Hey Don, thamks for your videos. Dude, I wanna change my Strat bridge Pickup. I´ve been thinking many options: Dimarzio Tone Zone, Seymour Duncan Hot Rails o JB Jr.
My question is , Whats your setup´? Capacitors on the 2 tone pots in this Strat and Pots, 250 K or 500k.
I basically kept all original parts in the guitar ..but as I said on video I turn the bottom tone pot into a volume for one coil of the Hot Rail...It really is a great set-up ...so many sounds while your dialing it in. Cap is on the middle control which now is the "master tone" for all pick-ups including the bridge PU. I would change to this set-up on every strat I use ..cause it works sooo well....
Oh.... the other thing I always do to my fenders is either use conductor paint or simply foil line the entire cavity to minimize the noise or interference
On the Fender Forum website there are a lot of us out here who have modded our XD's to bring out all the possibilities this amp presents. I haven't broken it open and replaced any circuits but there are some doing that too. Have fun with your Amp its a hoot to use.
GOOD JOB DON! The XD is an amazing little amp and you did it and the song justice. On my Super Champ I gutted the tubes and upgraded them to Groove Tube Gold 6V6s rated at 5 and a Mullard 12AX7. Along with a Ragin Cajun 10" speaker from Emminence this thing gets some great punch to the amp...Hope to one day be able to play as fluidly as you do and get the most out of time with my instruments. Thank you for your post of this video.
Dyingforstrat...the amp is wonderful ..a tad small and a bit limited in amount of settings...but what is there is right on ...great simulation of big TUBE stuff...at a low volume. I wish tyhey made the same amp with about 30 watt and maybe a 12 in spk..that would be perfect
Don you always have that strat or how did you get so lucky to aquire a 59. All the ones I see from that year are like 20,000 dollars lol. Nice guitar, beautiful. That's my favorite color. Btw how do you like that amp, I am dying to get one. I demo'd one for like 15 minutes not enough time to really get into it like i wanted. So is it the real deal fender sound?
hey there..That strat I bought about 20+ years ago from a lady who didn't speak english..ut was her kid's guiitar ..who moved out years before and left it..she was told it was "very valuable" but didn't really know how much...I paid 400. for it.. The guitar is unbelievable..feels so smooth & warm, to play...it`s my fav color too
this is a 1959 Strat ..in front of my computer it picks up a lot of Rf from the monitor...normally it's pretty quiet.. . typically a single coil PU is noisy...hence the invention of the "humbucking " Pick up.. it's just a nature of the beast....thanks for the ears
that's an awesome amp, though the great playing and guitar help a bit ;-)
Apreciated the video a lot :-)

Would you recommend it over a Blues Junior III or even a Princeton Reverb Reissue (money apart)?

would you recommend this over the vox vt40+?
lawrence096 1 year ago
@lawrence096 yes a better clean sound ....and a very nice model of other Amps..I think the overdrive is a bit more "true" than the Vox

@bmprebelo,, this amp is no way causing that hum you are hearing.
I own one and it is most likely his pup's due to lights,tv or something on. singlecoils get ya all the time.

Forget the amp settings and all that...just practice. Even mediocre gear in the right hands can sound amazing.

Probably has more to do with the guitar and pickups. If you are not using a strat neck pickup you may not get this sound.
