i usta hate this music when my dad played it on the sterio years ago.. now i have my own child and i find im doing the exact same, singin dancin and making a holy show of myself..
Please activate the option for mobile phones, so that this great song is also viewable on android mobile phones and especially on android tablet PCs (Youtube: "My uploaded videos - Edit - Broadcasting and Sharing Options - Syndication – Yes, make this video available on mobile phones and TV … - Save Changes").
Gawd, those kids are so lame in the foreground. Where did they get this collection of butt-munches? NIce song, never heard it before. The vid obviously never got much airplay, what with all the screwballs in the audience.
@BiggySn1p3r Yes, I read the video's description, it's a song from 1967. I was born in 1962, and I remember hearing many of the hit songs played on the radio and TV as a kid; I don't remember hearing this song.
@DancingSpiderman At first, they looked a bit inattentive (German crowd, maybe??), then it was obvious that he was singing in front of a screen, hence his apparently supernatural ability to move without hitting people (who were obviously not looking). Love the way the camera zooms in on the crowd just before the screen fakery begins; a not quit successful attempt to make it look as if it had found him in the crowd. Rocky Horror Picture Show stuff, we've since been spoiled by modern technology.
@lrd9999 Wow, pre-green-screen trickery, eh? I did not know that is what was going on here. I thot the kids were just from an odd neighborhood. OH OH I SEE NOW... at the very end, the girl in the striped shirt PASSES HER RIGHT HAND THROUGH CHRIS ANDREWS!! BWAAhahaha
He was definitely lip-syncing that one. Have you seen more recent live clips of him here on our YourTube? He can still hit those high tones, he's gotta be mid-sixties maybe?
@DancingSpiderman That wasn't bad, but watch?v=7G9XN5cUj08&NR=1 was amazing. If it was really recorded in '08, his voice hasn't changed much at all. His hair has moved back an inch or two, though. The girl in the striped shirt perplexed me a little; I'll bet they saw her on the tape/film and had her step in just as that guy blocked the view at 2:30. That's the only time I saw anyone from the crowd obscure or impede him. The rest of the time, it was almost like some informal queue behind him.
@lrd9999 I watched the vid you saw, and Chris is lip-syncing it. The song is not the same as the one playing in this clip, but I saw Chris pull the mic away from his mouth while the recording was still singing.
I read somewhere that Chris Andrews and Sandie Shaw were both denied visas for The United States; otherwise he would have come over here to promote it, and Sandie could have properly promoted her great "Girl Don't Come", which only got to No. 47 here but hit No. 3 in England.
This was just what it was like - audience participation till this date was more along the lines of The Good Ole Days - where you guffawed whilst firmly ensconced in your SEAT! Feel for the poor performers of this time - compare & contrast his later performance, I guess on ToTP or similar when he was free to gyrate & the audience knew to dance not gawk! Always a great dance tune! Great post! :)
@JChangful I always thought they were singing something like "You know that love comes once in a lifetime." Chris repeats "I know that. I know that" at the end, as if in reply.
I remember this vividly... it hit the charts in late November, 1965.
nyrainbow4 - are you sure that you don't have January 1st, 1967 confused with January 1st, 1966? It would make a lot of sense for this to be on some sort of New Year 1966 show reviewing the songs of 1965.
But if it really was 1967 (as you say) then maybe it was held back for some reason.... (???)
It is likely that this great record didn't hit the USA market until early 1966.
As a result, any "look back" program on January 1, 1967 would feature the greatest songs of 1966 (in the USA) and hence the appearance of this on 1/1/67!
I suspect that the "hr" seen in the top right hand corner may refer to "Hullabaloo Replay" or "Hullabaloo Remembers" or something like that!
I've got the US Atco single, both stock and promo copies. Brilliant record from 1965, barely made our charts (#94) but went to No. 1 in Germany and No. 3 in England.
Hooray for San Jose! Wasn't local radio the best? DJs would actually play what they wanted to play! I grew up in Los Angeles and radio was the bomb back in the '60s. Lots of records that were monster hits here were barely heard elsewhere. Another fave from 1965: "The Way of Love" by Kathy Kirby. Big hit here, but only #88 nationally. Cher did her mediocre version in 1972. I believe "Yesterday Man" hit No. 94 on Billboard. Such a great record should have done better. Lots of competition.
