I don't see any humor in this at all--Romney is heartless--if he can't take care of a little FAMILY pet how the hell will he take care of a NATION full of people?! Only a fool will vote for this Stepfordpolitician!
@BigNeonGlitterGirl You have said nothing. Look at your post. WTF does a damn dog have to do with his politics? If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were some blond valley girl from CA.
@kmcl11 Nope...no insecurity here...people agree with me because I am right....it was a dog who has feelings--you think it's okay to abuse animals therefore you are a piece of shit. You have no empathy how pathetic! You can sit there and act like your opinion matters but actually no one cares--LMMFAO! Anyone who votes for this loser is a loser!
@BigNeonGlitterGirl No. N one is going to make a decision about him over a damn dog. I haev been saying this over and over and you don't get. I am done. You are clearly a little kid.
This is quite possibly one of the happiest dogs on planet earth mind you.
He eats the best quality dog food and even get's the food that the Romney Grand-kids inevitably drop, throw or spit on the ground. There are almost always warm family members coming around, so he probably has all the attention he could ever want. Probably a nice pool to swim in and I know he likes to take a long run on the Romney ranch during those long summer days.
You're a sick man, Romney. Your dog does not "like fresh air". You kept him strapped to the roof for 12 hours, causing him to spray feces over the roof and windows -- out of terror. Thank God your weirdo Mormon beliefs will keep an animal like you from making it to the White House.
@amw1978dc He's not sick. Did you hear something? That would be a bad thing. We need to keep him healthy so that he can show everybody how to properly run a Nation.
Him and his pops have been doing it for years now. There's no debate about his capabilites.
The only reason a smart person would have in not voting for Romney would be either their ignorrance or their bigotry.
Only someone as evil as Romney could get me to agree with PETA.
Romney should've been arrested and charged with animal cruelty for strapping his dog to the roof of his car. I'm sick of neocon politicians getting away with crimes.
Strapping a dog to the top of a car for a 12 hour drive is cruel and abusive and shows a serious empathic disconnect on Mitt Romney's part. What did his children inside the car learn about how to treat animals? -- and this was the "family pet." By the way, PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Mitt Romney seems to think that this organization is amusing. So glad he dropped out of the race.
This has nothing to do with PETA. Of course they're outraged that Romney would abuse his own dog. But ALL OF US are outraged. Romeny is sick and cruel.
Yeah. So...have you been to a zoo lately? Not exactly uplifting. The last time I went I saw a polar bear lying on its side in 95 degree heat. Awesome. BTW it's PETA, if you can't spell don't post.
Oh give me a break. Is putting a dog in the back of a truck cruel!? It's just the same. Except in the dog carrier, there's a way less chance of him jumping out and getting hurt or runover like he could in the back of a truck. Mittler!? And I'm an animal lover! I was going to study veterinary medicine and even studied with vets and watched surgeries! Dont be self-righteouss.
Well, you can believe what you want. I would not do that, but people are acting like he killed the dog. The dog was in a kennel carriers at that, he wasn't just strapped to the car itself. Im way more concerned about those who kill pets, dont take care of them, deprive them of food, abuse the, etc like on Animal Precinct.
Tormenting? Give me a break. The dog may have liked the fresh air more than being stuck in a cramped car between 5 loud, kids. Romney is one of the most qualified to be president. I'm not saying I support him yet, because I dont know who to support yet. However, this petty scenario over 20 years ago is a pathetic excuse to say he shouldn't be president.
Again, Tying a dog, in a small kennel, to the roof of a car, for over a four hour trip at typical speeds of 55 mph is not being humane to a dog and constitures tormenting.
As for his record, he was a one term governor who raised taxes, increased illegal immigration in the state he governed, and generally did squat for the economy.
If he does for the country what he did in MA, he'll never stay to do the job and insult the country.
He did not raise income taxes. He raised petty fees on licenses and stuff like that, and I believe a small gas tax. But the regular tax (income tax) was not raised. Hmm...I thought Democrats liked higher taxes. He got MA out of $3 billion out of debt, and $1.2 billion was done specifically during his term. MA at the beginning of his term hadnt been si bad since the Depression and he created so many jobs. Dont forget he did so freaking much for the 2002 Olympics. The freaking Olympics!
Wow so many lies. You've swallowed the propaganda.
Here's some facts:
Data compiled by The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan research group in Washington, shows that during Romney's four years as governor, the state and local tax burden in Massachusetts increased from 10 percent to 10.6 percent of per capita income.
"MA at the beginning of his term hadnt been si bad since the Depression and he created so many jobs"
On all key labor market measures, the state not only lagged behind the country as a whole, but often ranked at or near the bottom of the state distribution. Massachusetts ranked third lowest on this key job generation measure
More on Mittney's economic record while playing "governor":
Manufacturing payroll employment throughout the nation declined by nearly 1.1 million or 7 percent between 2002 and 2006, but in Massachusetts it declined by more than 14 percent, the third worst record in the country.
Romney was the organizer of the Olympics. Others screwd it up, while he got people to organize it and to fix it. Tell me then, who are you voting for? Byt he way, I'm not a Romney supporter because I havent decided whos the best candidate. But Romney is one of the best. A Governor always has more experience than a senator or congressman. Romney is also a businessman - $190-$250 million. I think he knows a good deal about the economy.
"A Governor always has more experience than a senator or congressman."
Romney was a poor one-term governor who did nothing and never stayed to do a job.
As for being a businessman, his money was made through leveraged buyouts. It created more unemployment and less distribution of profit. He also had as many failures as successes in that.
My dog likes fresh air too...but I wouldn't drop him out of a plane.
Romney's crack about answering question on the CNN debates was smug too.
When a person makes smugness a practice it is an indicator factor of arrogance.
Hasn't the country suffered enough already from a president and vice president who go around acting like they know better than the people they are supposed to serve.
There are so many pets that are really in bad circumstances that its sounds really petty to even be discussing this. We should really be talking about ways to help animals that that have been beaten, malnourished or left in a kennel for a week while the owner went without them on a fun vacation.
You're trying to say PETA does a lot of good things, but it has elevated household pets to almost near Sainthood. Pretty soon you'll be thrown in jail for cursing your dog's name in vain.
Please don't put words in my mouth. I don't like PETA. They can help do good things. But they also have ties to the Animal Liberation Front and they themselves put animals "to sleep." Stop misdirecting the attention away from Mitt Romney making a mistake and breaking the law. It was wrong. Period.
the Romney family all support the war in Iraq, yet none of them serve in the military. Romney broke Massachusetts law as well as common sense by strapping an animal to the top of his car like skis! You don't do that to animal! The fact that it shit everywhere is a pretty good indicator that the dog was either not enjoying itself, or they didn't even have enough concern for it to stop frequently enough to let it relieve itself.....mormons are delusional
i dont see anything wrong with putting the dog on the roof especially if its in a cage where its protected. PETA is just being a bunch of pricks like they usually are.
Why not. I don't think its a big deal. Peta should be focusing on the real cases of animal mistreatment. Like the thousands of pets that are beaten and malnourished each year. Dogs love fresh air and road trips.
You speak too quickly. Dogs may love "fresh air" by being outside, yes it is true. But not all dogs enjoy road trips. My dog (75 lb., run-of-the-mill-yuppie-lab) gets severely carsick and has since puppyhood. I do as much as I can to help her through it, but she does not even like getting into my car. Please stop talking about things that you know nothing about. Asshole.
No need for hash language. OK, most dogs do. Is that better. I've had about 6 dogs in my life and all of my enjoyed road trips. And since you don't personally know mitts dog. You probably aren't qualified to say what his dog likes and dislikes. It is funny to see people try to make this a campaign issue though.
If you're treatment of people that you debate with on Youtube is an indication how how your treat your pets, then I don't think I'll vote for you for president:)
It is because he is a presidential hopeful that this is a campaign issue. Of course someone's past deeds, and crimes, are going to be a problem. Secondly, I have not seen any report or interview with him apologizing, just him trying to spin it with a joke. And sadly, you can't pin the responsibility on the Irish Setter. Mitt Romney, he is the one who farted.
Romney certainly wouldn't have done it if he thought the dog was suffering or in a great deal of discomfort. Now, if he had intentionally tried to hurt the dog this would be a different story. It was the family dog. Everyone in the family loved the dog. Do you really think that anyone in that family would want the dog on the roof if they thought it was suffering.
I would've just put the dog in the boarding kennel. The dog couldn't have been comfortable, because he pooped in his crate. They will not poop in a confined spot unless they are really scared, or have not been walked. Both of these represent a sign that he really didn't care that much about the dog. BTW, this is how Mormons treat their employees too, as the Utah mining disaster is a very clear example.
Ahh... So this is the real root of your dislike for Mitt. This isn't about his pet at all. He's mormon so you hate him. That is called bigotry. That is just as bad has hating somebody because of their race or their sex or what kind of dog they have.
The tragedy in the Utah has nothing to do with this topic. That was a tragedy and they have done everything they could to try to save the miners.
Trade unionism is against Mormon law. Mormons killed Joe Hill. What it's really about is poor working conditions in the free market system that Republicans seem to love. If that had been a union mine, it wouldn't have happened.
That is not true. Mormons can join whatever union they want. There have been dozens of mining tragedies in which many union and nonunion workers have died. I don't see your point.
Your value judgment on his intentions aside, whatever way you look at it, it was against the law. He admitted to the act without taking any responsibility for the repercussions. Whether or not he intended the dog to suffer isn't relevant. He is still responsible for its care and his own actions.
The repercussions were that his perfectly healthy dog took a crap in its dog cage and he had to clean it up. Trying to make a bigger deal about it than that is just silly. Breaking the speed limit is against the law too, but it isn't worth making a fuss over. Incidentally, Clinton admitted to doing drugs and he never served hard time for it. He also lied under oath. Those issues are much more relevant to the character of our world leaders.
So you don't think that neglectful (and might I remind you, illegal) treatment of an animal is indicative of a larger problem? Yeah, and Michael Vick just owns property in Virginia. Also, the fact that other elected officials have committed crimes does not absolve this one as it didn't absolve them. And by the way, "perfectly healthy" dogs don't crap in their own kennels. Any good animal owner knows that.
No it doesn't, but this is really a silly law. Calling what Mitt's family did an "illegal activity" is like calling spitting on the ground malicious injury to property. And its probably only a crime in MA which is the capital of stupid laws. It was legal and encouraged to kill Mormons in the state of Missouri until 1976. Now that is a dumb law. Yeah, now lets talk about injustice.
Dogs will crap in there kennel if they've been in there for a long time. So Mitts mistake was leaving the dog in there for too long. Most good animal owners have been guilty of that before. Do you have any proof that his dog was seriously mistreated?
No, most good animals owners have NOT left their dogs in their kennels so long that they have no other choice than to soil the small confined space they are in. I am a grown human being who makes the choice every day to do right by my dog. She depends on me for everything, and I do not let her down.
I have killed dozens of ground hogs because they eat my garden and have no natural predators so they quickly multiple and infest crops like insects. You probably don't want to hear about that though.
Wait, no, I'd love to hear more snide comments from you. On another topic, if the groundhogs have no natural predator, I don't see why you shouldn't remove them to save your crops. Its why the states of Florida and Louisiana sell alligator hunting leases when the numbers start encroaching on the urban areas.
I've killed hundreds of groundhogs. LOL. But I've only killed them with a .22, and they didn't suffer extensively. I don't really believe in PETA's view of the world (which means they will see me as a pariah) but I think they animals for which we are responsible do require us to use enlighten methods of management.
Many people don't understand dogs. Some try to make them furry little people. Some go the other way. I come from stock who often transported dogs improperly, but that doesn't mean what they did was correct. In the 1980's, I would've thought we would have known better.
The free market capitalistic system has brought more people out of poverty (see India, China, US, Australia, Europe ....) than all of the charity organizations and government hand outs combined. The free market/capitalistic system is about as good as it gets since people aren't perfect. Communism/socialism isn't the answer (see USSR, North Korea, Cuba, ...).
So are you saying that you'd like to ride in an "airtight" kennel on the top of a car for 12 hours? Also, please tell me HOW an Irish Setter climbed up on top of a car all by itself. If they have 5 kids in the back, its at least the size of a station wagon if not bigger. HOW did an Irish Setter climb all by itself up to the roof of the car?? Anyone?? I have a 75 lb lab who couldn't even climb to the roof of my Honda Civic. This is ridiculous.
Well first of all, I'm not a dog so I couldn't say what a dog likes. But i've seen dogs in the back of trucks and they don't seem to mind. Second of all it wasn't an "airtight" kennel. It seems like people are looking at ways to attack Mitts Character and the best they can come up with is, "well, remember that time that Mitt went on vacation with his family and he brought there dog."
Torture? I don't think its a big deal. Peta should be focusing on the real cases of animal mistreatment. Like the thousands of pets that are beaten and malnourished each year.
Well, that is a problem. However, just because you're rich and powerful doesn't mean you have the legal right to do to domestic animals what you wish. And this is indicative of how this man cares about people. Most people treat their dogs better than they treat their own children.
I agree with the last part of your statement, but I'm not willing to excuse Mr. Romney. He's supposed to be setting a good example. Most political leaders treat their pets very well-- except Lyndon Johnson, but he really loved his dogs. Bush treats his Scottish terriers very well, except when he accidentally dropped one of them (but that was an accident, not intentional).
@srgriffith -- ROMNEY'S 2012 PLAN CUTS MEDICARE--Ron Paul’s plan cuts $1 trillion the first year & balances the budget in 3 years. The plan cuts spending by ending the costly foreign wars, and cuts foreign welfare, corporate welfare, and overgrown federal bureaucracy. These cuts are made so that those who are dependent on domestic spending programs such as Medicare aren’t endangered through a sudden change in benefits. Romney’s plan cuts Medicare, on which many elderly Americans rely.
Stupid, 23 year old liberal propaganda. When you can't find real dirt, make junk up. BTW what ever happened to the Clinton dog? Oh yea, it wasn't on a leash and ran into the street and got killed.
Yeah, I'm not going to vote for Romney becuase he obviously doesn't like dogs. In a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he eats dogs after he's driven a long distance in his car. Plus he's a Mormon and everyone knows that Mormons are all evil and can never contribute any good to society. And we should never hold any biases while electing a canadidate
Romeny is a douchebag who doesn't stand a chance in hell of getting elected. Most Republicans view him as a godless heathen. Southern Baptists don't like Mormons.
It's a fact. Most Southern Baptists think Mormons are as bad as Satanists. That's the truth. Spend some time in the south and you will understand. No trolling at all. Just stating a fact.
Well my opinion is he's a douchebag. That doesn't make me a troll. That just means I think he's douchebag- just like you're probably a Mormon who thinks he walks on water. All the best though. I hope Romney is the candidate.
I would expect a Discordian to be a bit more radical and unconcerned with labelling people trolls. Lighten up. Hey if you're a Mormon and you want to see Romney as the nominee that's cool- we both agree on that. As I said, I also want to see him as the nominee. I won't have to worry about another Republican president royally fucking shit up which will be sweet.
Nah, all the Mormons I've dealt with in any meaningful way are good people. Doesn't surprise me that there are hip Mormons out there. I'm just saying most Southern Baptists would never vote for a Mormon and without them a Republican is not going to get elected. Sad truth is most southerners are creeped out by Mormonism. I'm creeped out by Mormonism and Southern Baptists. Rather, the hard core true believers creep me out. Plenty of decent folks involved in both though.
Hey, if you find it insulting that a lot of people are freaked out by your religion so be it. Can't help you. It's a fact though. And if you don't think southern Baptists vote in large numbers you're crazy. They are the reason for the dominance of the Republican party in the south. If their churches didn't have these huge get out the vote drives they would be a blip on the radar. Do you really think some Bible thumping southern Baptist preacher is going to tell his flock to vote for Romney- LOL!
Well, guess I was right. The conservative Christians could not get behind him. Mormonism is too big a hurdle for someone who plans to run for president on the Republican ticket.
The difference here is that your dog, sole954, has the option of pulling his head back in now and then if he needs or wants to. Romney's dog had no choice of getting off the car roof, and despite the rigged windshield, the dog was distressed enough to get diarrhea, as told to the Boston Globe by friends of Romney and confirmed by family members. This does seem to be an issue of putting "efficient" problem solving ahead of concern for how it affects others.
Lmao Fuck Peta

This is quite possibly one of the happiest dogs on planet earth mind you.
He eats the best quality dog food and even get's the food that the Romney Grand-kids inevitably drop, throw or spit on the ground. There are almost always warm family members coming around, so he probably has all the attention he could ever want. Probably a nice pool to swim in and I know he likes to take a long run on the Romney ranch during those long summer days.
Yoou guys are out of your cotton-pickin mind.

You're a sick man, Romney. Your dog does not "like fresh air". You kept him strapped to the roof for 12 hours, causing him to spray feces over the roof and windows -- out of terror. Thank God your weirdo Mormon beliefs will keep an animal like you from making it to the White House.
amw1978dc 5 months ago
@amw1978dc He's not sick. Did you hear something? That would be a bad thing. We need to keep him healthy so that he can show everybody how to properly run a Nation.
Him and his pops have been doing it for years now. There's no debate about his capabilites.
The only reason a smart person would have in not voting for Romney would be either their ignorrance or their bigotry.

So glad he dropped out of the race.
griffwally 4 years ago 2
This has nothing to do with PETA. Of course they're outraged that Romney would abuse his own dog. But ALL OF US are outraged. Romeny is sick and cruel.

What bufoons...is putting a dog in the back of a truck cruel too!?!?
Baroque1750 4 years ago
When you strap a dog to the roof of your car, that's cruelty, fuckwit.
In fact, Mittler broke a law against Morality and decency when he did it.
Just another item to add in his rap sheet.
MKB2814 4 years ago
Oh give me a break. Is putting a dog in the back of a truck cruel!? It's just the same. Except in the dog carrier, there's a way less chance of him jumping out and getting hurt or runover like he could in the back of a truck. Mittler!? And I'm an animal lover! I was going to study veterinary medicine and even studied with vets and watched surgeries! Dont be self-righteouss.
Baroque1750 4 years ago
"Is putting a dog in the back of a truck cruel!? "
No, that's not cruel. Romney strapped the dog to the roof of his car (a station wagon), for a trip over 4 hours going at speeds exceeding 55 mph.
That's cruel.
MKB2814 4 years ago
Well, you can believe what you want. I would not do that, but people are acting like he killed the dog. The dog was in a kennel carriers at that, he wasn't just strapped to the car itself. Im way more concerned about those who kill pets, dont take care of them, deprive them of food, abuse the, etc like on Animal Precinct.
Baroque1750 4 years ago
The sheer callousness Romney showed toward tormenting a poor animal is an example of his lack of being humane or even compassionate.
Perhaps Romney does belong on Animal Precinct for cruelty to animals.
He certainly doesn't treat people well.
MKB2814 4 years ago
Baroque1750 4 years ago
Again, Tying a dog, in a small kennel, to the roof of a car, for over a four hour trip at typical speeds of 55 mph is not being humane to a dog and constitures tormenting.
As for his record, he was a one term governor who raised taxes, increased illegal immigration in the state he governed, and generally did squat for the economy.
If he does for the country what he did in MA, he'll never stay to do the job and insult the country.
MKB2814 4 years ago
He did not raise income taxes. He raised petty fees on licenses and stuff like that, and I believe a small gas tax. But the regular tax (income tax) was not raised. Hmm...I thought Democrats liked higher taxes. He got MA out of $3 billion out of debt, and $1.2 billion was done specifically during his term. MA at the beginning of his term hadnt been si bad since the Depression and he created so many jobs. Dont forget he did so freaking much for the 2002 Olympics. The freaking Olympics!
Baroque1750 4 years ago
Wow so many lies. You've swallowed the propaganda.
Here's some facts:
Data compiled by The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan research group in Washington, shows that during Romney's four years as governor, the state and local tax burden in Massachusetts increased from 10 percent to 10.6 percent of per capita income.
MKB2814 4 years ago
"MA at the beginning of his term hadnt been si bad since the Depression and he created so many jobs"
On all key labor market measures, the state not only lagged behind the country as a whole, but often ranked at or near the bottom of the state distribution. Massachusetts ranked third lowest on this key job generation measure
MKB2814 4 years ago
More on Mittney's economic record while playing "governor":
Manufacturing payroll employment throughout the nation declined by nearly 1.1 million or 7 percent between 2002 and 2006, but in Massachusetts it declined by more than 14 percent, the third worst record in the country.
MKB2814 4 years ago
"Dont forget he did so freaking much for the 2002 Olympics. The freaking Olympics!"
Yeah, taking credit for other people's hard work is a challenge.
Not too concieted that the most detailed account of this "feat" was his own autobiography.
Romney: Noun + Verb + "Olympics"
MKB2814 4 years ago
Romney was the organizer of the Olympics. Others screwd it up, while he got people to organize it and to fix it. Tell me then, who are you voting for? Byt he way, I'm not a Romney supporter because I havent decided whos the best candidate. But Romney is one of the best. A Governor always has more experience than a senator or congressman. Romney is also a businessman - $190-$250 million. I think he knows a good deal about the economy.
Baroque1750 4 years ago
"A Governor always has more experience than a senator or congressman."
Romney was a poor one-term governor who did nothing and never stayed to do a job.
As for being a businessman, his money was made through leveraged buyouts. It created more unemployment and less distribution of profit. He also had as many failures as successes in that.
Bush sold himself as an "MBA" president too.
MKB2814 4 years ago
"Romney was the organizer of the Olympics. Others screwd it up, while he got people to organize it and to fix it. "
Again, the biggest account of that is his crappy book. Many people involved had the money, planning, and advertising ready to go.
Really, Mitten's took advantage of other people's work to claim he did it all.
MKB2814 4 years ago
Well technically, Ronald Reagan wasn't responsible for bringing down the USSR because he got others to do it by your analysis.
Baroque1750 4 years ago
"Ronald Reagan wasn't responsible for bringing down the USSR because he got others to do it by your analysis"
Reagan, while instrumental, was not the sole agent of the collapse of the USSR.
That notion is solipistic and arrogantly ignores the work of the figures living in that society.
Mittney took great pains to deny he ever followed the Reagan political method.

Romney's crack about answering question on the CNN debates was smug too.
When a person makes smugness a practice it is an indicator factor of arrogance.
Hasn't the country suffered enough already from a president and vice president who go around acting like they know better than the people they are supposed to serve.
sharonafox1 4 years ago
There are so many pets that are really in bad circumstances that its sounds really petty to even be discussing this. We should really be talking about ways to help animals that that have been beaten, malnourished or left in a kennel for a week while the owner went without them on a fun vacation.
You're trying to say PETA does a lot of good things, but it has elevated household pets to almost near Sainthood. Pretty soon you'll be thrown in jail for cursing your dog's name in vain.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Please don't put words in my mouth. I don't like PETA. They can help do good things. But they also have ties to the Animal Liberation Front and they themselves put animals "to sleep." Stop misdirecting the attention away from Mitt Romney making a mistake and breaking the law. It was wrong. Period.
kcchandler 4 years ago
This is something that happened over twenty years ago and its the worst thing that anybody can recall him doing. I'd say he's a pretty good person.
srgriffith 4 years ago
the animal transportation act was signed on March 24, 1998. I guess he didn't break the law after all.
srgriffith 4 years ago
the Romney family all support the war in Iraq, yet none of them serve in the military. Romney broke Massachusetts law as well as common sense by strapping an animal to the top of his car like skis! You don't do that to animal! The fact that it shit everywhere is a pretty good indicator that the dog was either not enjoying itself, or they didn't even have enough concern for it to stop frequently enough to let it relieve itself.....mormons are delusional
kewpiesbadhairday 4 years ago
i dont see anything wrong with putting the dog on the roof especially if its in a cage where its protected. PETA is just being a bunch of pricks like they usually are.
moozippy 4 years ago
Um, no one leaves a dog on top of the car in this modern age. And no one travels with a dog without stopping every few hours to let it walk.
westphalianprinz 4 years ago
Why not. I don't think its a big deal. Peta should be focusing on the real cases of animal mistreatment. Like the thousands of pets that are beaten and malnourished each year. Dogs love fresh air and road trips.
srgriffith 4 years ago
You speak too quickly. Dogs may love "fresh air" by being outside, yes it is true. But not all dogs enjoy road trips. My dog (75 lb., run-of-the-mill-yuppie-lab) gets severely carsick and has since puppyhood. I do as much as I can to help her through it, but she does not even like getting into my car. Please stop talking about things that you know nothing about. Asshole.
kcchandler 4 years ago
No need for hash language. OK, most dogs do. Is that better. I've had about 6 dogs in my life and all of my enjoyed road trips. And since you don't personally know mitts dog. You probably aren't qualified to say what his dog likes and dislikes. It is funny to see people try to make this a campaign issue though.
srgriffith 4 years ago
If you're treatment of people that you debate with on Youtube is an indication how how your treat your pets, then I don't think I'll vote for you for president:)
srgriffith 4 years ago
It is because he is a presidential hopeful that this is a campaign issue. Of course someone's past deeds, and crimes, are going to be a problem. Secondly, I have not seen any report or interview with him apologizing, just him trying to spin it with a joke. And sadly, you can't pin the responsibility on the Irish Setter. Mitt Romney, he is the one who farted.
kcchandler 4 years ago
Romney certainly wouldn't have done it if he thought the dog was suffering or in a great deal of discomfort. Now, if he had intentionally tried to hurt the dog this would be a different story. It was the family dog. Everyone in the family loved the dog. Do you really think that anyone in that family would want the dog on the roof if they thought it was suffering.
srgriffith 4 years ago
I would've just put the dog in the boarding kennel. The dog couldn't have been comfortable, because he pooped in his crate. They will not poop in a confined spot unless they are really scared, or have not been walked. Both of these represent a sign that he really didn't care that much about the dog. BTW, this is how Mormons treat their employees too, as the Utah mining disaster is a very clear example.
westphalianprinz 4 years ago
That was a tragedy and they have done everything they could to try to save the miners.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Trade unionism is against Mormon law. Mormons killed Joe Hill. What it's really about is poor working conditions in the free market system that Republicans seem to love. If that had been a union mine, it wouldn't have happened.
westphalianprinz 4 years ago
That is not true. Mormons can join whatever union they want. There have been dozens of mining tragedies in which many union and nonunion workers have died. I don't see your point.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Any democrat that says that they don't like capitalism and free markets is probably not a democrat, but a socialist or communist.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Your value judgment on his intentions aside, whatever way you look at it, it was against the law. He admitted to the act without taking any responsibility for the repercussions. Whether or not he intended the dog to suffer isn't relevant. He is still responsible for its care and his own actions.
kcchandler 4 years ago
The repercussions were that his perfectly healthy dog took a crap in its dog cage and he had to clean it up. Trying to make a bigger deal about it than that is just silly. Breaking the speed limit is against the law too, but it isn't worth making a fuss over. Incidentally, Clinton admitted to doing drugs and he never served hard time for it. He also lied under oath. Those issues are much more relevant to the character of our world leaders.
srgriffith 4 years ago
So you don't think that neglectful (and might I remind you, illegal) treatment of an animal is indicative of a larger problem? Yeah, and Michael Vick just owns property in Virginia. Also, the fact that other elected officials have committed crimes does not absolve this one as it didn't absolve them. And by the way, "perfectly healthy" dogs don't crap in their own kennels. Any good animal owner knows that.
kcchandler 4 years ago
No it doesn't, but this is really a silly law. Calling what Mitt's family did an "illegal activity" is like calling spitting on the ground malicious injury to property. And its probably only a crime in MA which is the capital of stupid laws. It was legal and encouraged to kill Mormons in the state of Missouri until 1976. Now that is a dumb law. Yeah, now lets talk about injustice.
srgriffith 4 years ago
It wasn't a big deal. Period. We'll just have to leave it at that.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Dogs will crap in there kennel if they've been in there for a long time. So Mitts mistake was leaving the dog in there for too long. Most good animal owners have been guilty of that before. Do you have any proof that his dog was seriously mistreated?
srgriffith 4 years ago
No, most good animals owners have NOT left their dogs in their kennels so long that they have no other choice than to soil the small confined space they are in. I am a grown human being who makes the choice every day to do right by my dog. She depends on me for everything, and I do not let her down.
kcchandler 4 years ago

The quoted law about animal transport was instituted in 1998. Romney's trip was in 1983. Twenty four years ago.
srgriffith 4 years ago
I have killed dozens of ground hogs because they eat my garden and have no natural predators so they quickly multiple and infest crops like insects. You probably don't want to hear about that though.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Wait, no, I'd love to hear more snide comments from you. On another topic, if the groundhogs have no natural predator, I don't see why you shouldn't remove them to save your crops. Its why the states of Florida and Louisiana sell alligator hunting leases when the numbers start encroaching on the urban areas.
kcchandler 4 years ago
I guess I pegged you wrong. I apologize.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Oh, well thank you. I apologize for the asshole comment. It was beneath me.
kcchandler 4 years ago
I've killed hundreds of groundhogs. LOL. But I've only killed them with a .22, and they didn't suffer extensively. I don't really believe in PETA's view of the world (which means they will see me as a pariah) but I think they animals for which we are responsible do require us to use enlighten methods of management.
westphalianprinz 4 years ago
Agreed.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Many people don't understand dogs. Some try to make them furry little people. Some go the other way. I come from stock who often transported dogs improperly, but that doesn't mean what they did was correct. In the 1980's, I would've thought we would have known better.
westphalianprinz 4 years ago
The free market capitalistic system has brought more people out of poverty (see India, China, US, Australia, Europe ....) than all of the charity organizations and government hand outs combined. The free market/capitalistic system is about as good as it gets since people aren't perfect. Communism/socialism isn't the answer (see USSR, North Korea, Cuba, ...).
srgriffith 4 years ago
So are you saying that you'd like to ride in an "airtight" kennel on the top of a car for 12 hours? Also, please tell me HOW an Irish Setter climbed up on top of a car all by itself. If they have 5 kids in the back, its at least the size of a station wagon if not bigger. HOW did an Irish Setter climb all by itself up to the roof of the car?? Anyone?? I have a 75 lb lab who couldn't even climb to the roof of my Honda Civic. This is ridiculous.
kcchandler 4 years ago
Well first of all, I'm not a dog so I couldn't say what a dog likes. But i've seen dogs in the back of trucks and they don't seem to mind. Second of all it wasn't an "airtight" kennel. It seems like people are looking at ways to attack Mitts Character and the best they can come up with is, "well, remember that time that Mitt went on vacation with his family and he brought there dog."
srgriffith 4 years ago

westphalianprinz 4 years ago
Torture? I don't think its a big deal. Peta should be focusing on the real cases of animal mistreatment. Like the thousands of pets that are beaten and malnourished each year.
srgriffith 4 years ago
Well, that is a problem. However, just because you're rich and powerful doesn't mean you have the legal right to do to domestic animals what you wish. And this is indicative of how this man cares about people. Most people treat their dogs better than they treat their own children.
westphalianprinz 4 years ago
I agree with the last part of your statement, but I'm not willing to excuse Mr. Romney. He's supposed to be setting a good example. Most political leaders treat their pets very well-- except Lyndon Johnson, but he really loved his dogs. Bush treats his Scottish terriers very well, except when he accidentally dropped one of them (but that was an accident, not intentional).

Romney certainly wouldn't have done it if he thought the dog was suffering or in a great deal of discomfort.

I'm creeped out by Mormonism and Southern Baptists. Rather, the hard core true believers creep me out. Plenty of decent folks involved in both though.

Do you really think some Bible thumping southern Baptist preacher is going to tell his flock to vote for Romney- LOL!
