This film is real masterpiece of the 90's. I always wanted to see this movie and finally I did. Fantastic one!!! (just like the book). Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, Sam Neill and others did a great job. Bart Mancuso was my favorite character but I really loved all of them

All bull shit aside, this is a great movie. The story was based on the views of real US Navy sailors and officers. And it's one hell of a good story. Great acting, directing and writing. I'm glad we have the navy that serves our nation. This movie does not demean 'the enemy'. It makes them real.

does the kraken class even exist or is that just some bs to try intimidate to Americans i cannot find even a brief mention of this new ssn. even if it does dont count on it being better than a virginia class ssn, you never know what tricks the Americans have up their sleeves ;) also how likely is it that a sub could escape a torpedo pinging at the 1 second interval? im guessing not very likely if at all.

@zequelll The torpedo was running at a higher speed then the sub. Red october escaped by going all back on the starboard shaft and full ahead on the port one. Think of it as like swinging off a lamp post. The foot nearest the post actually goes backwards. like a slingshot effect. It also helps that Red octobr was ready for collision

i was actually referring to the dallas. would the torpedo even see the countermeasures if it was that close to the sub and they dropped out of the bottom? Usually in sub command/DW if the torpedo is pinging at the 1 second interval you are pretty much dead no matter what you do.

@zequelll Same situation really. Imagine if a car was being chased by cops. The criminal makes a sudden move and the cop is unable to make the change at first because he was going at a higher speed. It *is* possible to perform a manovre like this, but it is very risky

At the time 80's the Typhoon Sub was a lot better, the Americas didn't have fish that could sink a typhoon in one hit or probably 2, It was much quieter than any America subs at the time. It also moved faster submerged, dont forget she can stay under for 6 mounths at a time alot more than any american subs of that era.

L.A. class is an attack sub, it doesn't have a missile deck. you detonate a torp above the missile deck it dishes in the silo hatches jamming them. thus the Typhoon is out of business. & you didn't even have to kill the crew. a soft kill. but as there are no typhoon subs anymore it's purely academic.

sure the flight 2 L.A. have 12 vertical launch tubes for Tomahawk cruies missiles, but there is no missile deck. the missile deck is the flat upper casing on a boomer that has the missile silos underneath. there's a big difference between a cruise missile & a huge IRBM.
