Thats awesome. The only little spedder I have sceen is up by mud lake off Hwy 9, but the tracks are no longer operatonal, most of the tracks were removed. =(
@thunder393 First off, what do you mean by removed? I believe you but are you saying they no longer run.
Anyway, what was happening was the Bellingham Railroad Museum was running some old motorized carts up here. The section of track here is the one by Park Road. My job was to flag down crossings, connect the trains, and cut down brush. It was a fun experience at the time however. The tracks are abandoned once more however, we are deciding on opening it up every summer.
@LARDLOGO back during the 1960's-70's many small busisnesses relied on small railroads both stndard and narrow gauge to move goods from the industries to trnsportations hubs. If you visit the La Conner museum you can see some of the old rail limes that use to ru thrugh mount vernon, sedro Woolley. concrete, clear lake etc.
These lines were owned and operted by thse businesses not by burlington northern. When these companies went under their properties went up for sale.
@LARDLOGO The new land owners did not always want to keep the tracks for wht ever reason, so they were ripped up. The tracks that go up to mud lake use to be owned by some small logging companies back in the day, when logging roads were not always an option. Eventually those companies either went under or moved on and when the rights to the land was purchased and developed, there was no need to the tracks, so they were tore up. You can see some track still exists that isn't on private property.
