Because I drive a Volvo and I was a part of this event. Us and several other cars actually raced to outrun the helicopters. The TME Engeneering Mustang, black Lambo Diablo, the Vanishing Point Supra, the silver STi "Buiscut" and us got alerted to the helicopters in the air. Thinking they were cops we went balls out through St Louis.
Well I don't think that the drivers in the race are the problem so to speak. The problem is driving in a high speed race on the street when there are people like ma and pa hubberd out there. So the problem is driving like that in a traffic filled environment. I think they are asking for it.
Man that kicks ass. Ive always dreamed of overtaking police in a highspeed pursuite trying to catch a guy driving half as fast as me and just blowing their socks off. You should just take a reporter out in the car with you so they know how it feels. In my mind nothing feels better than sittin in a car youve put your sweat and blood into and just givin' er and feeling those G forces pull you into the seat. Except maybe sex of course.
what the f**k???? 100mph(160kmh) is fast? Here our speedlimit in the highways is 75mph(120km) but many people drives 100mph(160km) or even more like 125mph(200km) and we dont have journalistic stuff like this or people angry with it.. I agree the people should respect the limits but this is such a ridicilus thing! It´s not the end of the world and these guys think it is!
As a side note - in the 30+year history of the Cannonball/Gumball/USA Express/etc... there has been one fatal accident. And that happend this year. By comparisson more people die from bear attacks, hippo attacks, being struck by lightning, in police custody, AND killed by police cars in high speed pursuits (although you'll never see that on tv, only the bad guys crashing). Driving a car is not safe, but then again neither is crossing the street, drinking tap water, or breathing too much air.

People simply fail to realize that there are those of us out there that know what we're doing in the machines we're doing it in. They simply lump us into the "asshole driver" catagory. I for one know every in and out of my car, and no move is unpredictable. Although that doesn't translate well at 100+.
See, this is a common argument made btwn racers and regular drivers. If the speed limit is 70, why is every car made with the ability to go over that? True, the skill lies soley with the driver of the speeding car. However, there is that fine line btwn what is a good driver and a moron who is endangering everyone on the road.
a car made to do 200mph can safely do well over 100 as long as the driver is good and paying attention. Why all the complaining? Whining non-participants should remember they are driving cars made to do around 100 safely and just leave it alone.

How do you think people would react if they put on the news that the Lambo outran the cops at over 180mph, or that the Porsche shown in the news report hit 200+mph later that day. The American public isn't ready for that kind of reality. Besides... American news is geared at a 4th grade public education level. It's all Fisher-Price garbage.
