Erica put Mona in an early grave. In the history of soaps, there has never been a more ungrateful, vain, self absorbed and un-attentive daughter. The viewers may have loved Erica for these characteristics, but I have despised her for them. She is the worst kind of example for audiences - only concerned about what she can get and not what she can protect. The tragedy of the Erica Kane story is that Mona remained devoted to her, out of guilt for the father's abandonment, if nothing else.

What's wrong with you people? This was a mental breakdown for Erica; you aren't seeing the episodes that came before this, nor do you seem to realize that they did this because the actress who PLAYED Mona died in real life. After acting as mother and daughter for twenty-five years, do you think that all of this is 'hamming'? I watched this episode when it aired and cried myself to pieces. You're obviously not fans, so wtf are you doing here in the first place?
UNTIL YOU HAVE LOST A MOTHER YOU ALL WHO THINK IT IS FUNNY CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND! I LOSS MY GRANDMOTHER AND MOTHER 11 MONTHS APART! I AM A STRONG WOMAN BUT AFTER MAKING ARRANGEMENTS AND KEEPING BUSY,AT FUNERAL IT WAS HARD! PLUS SOME OF THOSE TEARS THAT SUSAN HAD TO BE REAL! BECAUSE SHE HAD KNOWN THE ACTRESS WHO PLAYED HER MOM OVER 20 YEARS!
When you are as close to your parent as Erica and Mona were portrayed to be, the overwhelming sense of loss that comes over you is incredible. I think Lucci was perfect here.
@hilljayne I agree...I was thinking, as I watched this, that I hope I can refrain from doing likewise when my dear mom passes, but I make no guarantees. It's like I know it will happen one day, but I cannot imagine my life without her. Growing up, she was all I had...and she is really the only person that ever had my back, until my husband came along.

I have had some laughs over Erica over the years, but this just made me feel bad for Susan Lucci. That must've been embarrassing for everyone else in the cast.
This made me cry as is kid. However, i have been to baptist funerals and there are more funny (with the PLEASE DON'T TAKE MAH BABY comments) than Susan Lucci's reaction to Mona's passing.
there getting rid of this show fans we need to fight back by wrting letters to abc get the address of google it can work if u know the show Game they where actually off the air and brought back by fans lets not wait til they are off the air lets do it now #truefans
This was back in 1994, and critics still considered Susan Lucci's acting a bit campy to be worthy of an Emmy - she would have to wait five years later, in 1999, before she could show them what she was made of!
I am so glad to see this. I never watched it because my stepmom had died at that time & I just couldn't bear to watch. The funerals on AMC always make me cry!
TRUST THIS - AMC WOULD BE BEING AXED LIKE A FEW OTHER'S IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE REMAINDER OF GLUE BEING SUSAN LUCCI---Susan Lucci's ERICA is EPIC, at times over the top, yet she is part of history. The girl has been Erica from the get go- GIVE HER CREDIT, Oh but again She would love the hate comment's.
There were several times in my life that made me laugh at Erica's pain...when she'd lost first husband Jeff to her opposite but much more easier to handle Mary Kennicott. Or when Tom had enough of her bullshit and married Brooke English. It didn't matter if Hollwood worked out for her or not! Sadly Mona's death was not one where was I laughing.
My junior high school teacher says that soaps are the same as they were 15 years ago and longer. She says that soaps only do social issues(AIDS and alcoholism) when their show is in trouble and only want to boost ratings to keep it alive and money in their pockets. Margaret was a sharp woman who didn't need to make a kings ransom in teaching to know that show business ppl are relatively messed up and never find peace of mind in their lives so she stuck with basics. Education rules smut anyday.
What drama queens! Do ppl really buy into this mumbo jumbo? Causing scenes in public("I'm gonna kill you!") or women fighting over something stupid and calling each other names that you can go to hell for. This stuff is sinful and distasteful. God will NOT send us to heaven if we watch this crap. Glamour would serve a purpose...if it did something for the world but it doesn't. It doesn't fight off diseases. Worse yet. Nobody works on soaps Yes ppl have jobs on here, but no actual work.
Forget all the dramatic mumbo jumbo. Let's talk about Prince(as in the "artist formerly known as Prince" who has been Prince all over again)...is Prince(how should I choose the words)...feminine?
i have seen this seen so many times, more times than i care to even count and i still cant watch it without crying, this is susan lucci's best performance, for me at least.
@chiteach2 It is and both make me cry. I saw both verions of Imitation Of Life, the 1930 s and the 1950 s. Ratter you like Susan or not this had me crying my eyes out. My mom is 82 and I can not begain to think how I would react if she dies.
I remember this scene when it first aired and get emotional watching it again. Any one that has lost their mother and/or a long-time viewer of All My Children can identify with Erica..... Great work by Susan Lucci and rest of the cast.
Also, for the idiot who commented on her quote that Mona could die in there and "it's too late for that"...clearly you missed the point. When someone dies, we remain in denial about it for some time. For all of Erica and Mona's fights, she always counted on her mother to be there for her. Despite her success in career and what not, Erica did not know at this point how to move on but she found it in her to continue with her life and she made Mona happy....so she denied that her mother was gone.
@cajayson8301 And you can agrue with your mom and still love her. There is no qustion Erica loved her mother. If Erica listen to anyone it was to her mom, not saying she followed her advice but she listened more then people think. And yes she counted on her mom, her mom is the one peson who never failed her
@gibbdreamer that's precisely how I feel about Erica/Mona...despite any of their arguing, Mona had the uncanny ability of keeping Erica grounded even if she attempted to make sense of her actions.
You don't get any better parent/child relationships on AMC than the Kane family ;)
A lot of fans agree Lucci should have gotten her first Emmy either for Mona's death (like this scene) or for the drug addiction...I agree. But am still glad she finally won in 1999 and watch her acceptance speech on You Tube all the time. Long live La Lucci! ;)
Jayson I don't know if I told you but I think this is one of the first episodes of AMC I ever watched(with the exception of a few years before that when Erica was married to Adam but wanted Jack and he was with Brooke) I was 14 when I watched that summer and thought it was pretty sad and I could already see what put Lucci and AMC on the map. I picked a good time to start watching what with Fra's death, the tornado that summer and then the 25th anniversary.
then why are you watching? surely you must like if it interests you to watch. I wonder how YOU'LL react when your own mother dies. Surely you won't be laughing or will yell at anyone who finds it remotely funny. Death is never funny, even if it is a television program. this woman did die in real life and it was portrayed realistically.
"Even" Erica is human? More like "ESPECIALLY" Erica is human.......very passionate, very driven, and feels things very deeply.
My only problem with this scene is that all these adults are just standing there watching Erica completely break down--and no one thinks to take charge of Bianca and get her out of there.
yeah...I noticed that. They just let that poor child see her mother combust! It is so good to see all those great faces though...the show has lost so much talent...such a shame.
yeah that was so sad. ryan is such a f*-up! I'm thrilled Greenlee's coming back yet again but Ryan's no good for her. Look at what a WHORE(I'm sorry but that's what he is) he's become since she died. AND look at what a whore he's become since Gillian's died(the only one he was really good with just like Greenlee with Leo)
yeah that bothered me about that scene too. 25 of PV's elite was at the funeral but nobody really did jack to calm her down or get her away for a few minutes for like a drink water or to take a deep breath...and even worse, no one seemed to have noticed Bianca had disappeared! Good thing Dimitri arrived(ed's note: I think Dim and Erica had just divorced for the first time before this happened too) they would divorce again over her drug use/involvement wtih Kinder.
I think AMC is the most believable soap opera because it's the most realistic and it's also the most sad show too because so many favorites of our(adults and children) are gone from death. We are all god's Children!
@imachildofthe80s8089 I love both ALL MY CHILDERN and GENERAL HOSPITAL, but in both cases about 98 percent of the great charactors have died or been written out. Stewart and Cindy but Marian made a great wife to Stewart too. on G.H. Robin and Stone were my faves but Stone died from Aids. Alan, A.J., Lila all gone too. And the story lines were much better. They were even alowed to read from the Bible back when the great caractors were on. SOMETIMES change is NOT a good thing
I think Langley died that year too. Well maybe not. I think he just retired and passed away sometime later. His name was still in mags and cast credits but the character just vanished. Pheebes and others would mention his name but just never seen at one point. It never was addressed he was officially retired til I read years later(I read each issue of the mags back then) anything I could get my hands on about soaps before the good days of hte net.
I watched AMC on and off since the early 70s (I stopped watching when they killed off Jenny Gardner). This is extremely hard to watch. Susan does an excellent job on this, as anyone who had lost a parent could see. I don;t think I could watch this scene again. I loved Mona. RIP
Yeah you picked a good time to stop watching. I think back in Sep of 84, AMC's decision to kill off Jenny(not sure if Kim Delaney was written out of if she chose to go for primetime already) was like GH's decision to kill Genie Francis Laura off shortly after her big wedding to Luke in 81. We were so invested in these characters with whatever show we watched and if we loved that character we loved the other half of that couple too. Yeah we were really passionate.
Now it's more about just one person alone(the star) But back in the 80's it was all about the couples(Luke had to be with Laura, Greg had to be with Jenny, Roman had to be with Marlena, Cliff had to be with Nina and so forth. Yeah thinks weren't making to much since during the whole 84-86 period and favorites were being replaced like flies on the wall.
she was in denial. That could come in handy for you once you've lost someone with a lot of meaning in your life. We don't always accept death the moment we hear the news. I was a basket case for at least a year since my grandma died. I guess you'd actually have to lose someone you love to death for you to fully comprehend that it isn't so easy to accept. I have plenty of experience in that field.
@imachildofthe80s8089 I know well what you mean. My grandpa died in 2001 and she was 98, I HATED when people would say she lived a long life, no shit. But this lady is / was my grandma and it CRUSHED me to lose her. I make no promses how I will react if I ever lose my mom, just get a padded cell.
LOL no movie. It's daytime soap opera All My children, an american classic for 40 years as of tomorrow(and one of the best shows ever written in the history books for any type of program) Though it's not so great like it once was.
This year was 1993....I believe Linda Dano won this year....the following year, Hillary B. Smith (Nora, OLTL) won. I agree Susan is a great actress, but, the reason why she never won before 1999 was because all the scenes she submitted were just overly dramatic, but never showed any real acting range......
You have to understand that Erica is an overly dramatic character. That is how she was billed as being "over the top"...if you've seen Lucci's other work, she doesn't always get too dramatic but it's Erica's character so it's ok
Many also believe she did not win because the Emmys scored in ratings over the "will Lucci win or not?" so viewers tuned in each year and, when not winning, they tuned in the next year. Plus, in the past couple of years, the judges have done poorly on awarding Emmys
Yeah "the ladies of the 80's" as I call them. My favorite dramatic actresses were AMC's Susan Lucci OLTL's Andrea Evans and Y@R's Brenda Dickson. what we now coin "diva's" daytime's got the best of them. Susan Lucci is the biggest star of daytime, surpassing even Oprah Winfrey and Bob Barker(up to 2007) She's also been at it the longest. She's also had some great movies, she's a spokesperson for speaking out against drugs so she's one of the clean daytime stars
Soaps are a profession where drugs have been used(and abused by a lot of actors/actresses(maybe not so much the writers as they gotta keep a clean head yet they seem to have been hitting drugs hard for some of the stupid shit they write) I guess soap actors are a lot like rock stars where fame can actually be a price if they don't use it wisely.
I agree with judges poorly judging. I cant remember the actor's name. But the OLTL Todd Manning execution scene was great and he didnt even get an Emmy nod.
That's because the man's a horrible actor and it would've been nice if he had died in the gas chamber. You guys don't know what makes a good soap anymore. I don't know why you guys defend rapists like it's hot or something.
Trevor St. John, the actor who plays Todd Manning, has never been convivted of rape or even arrested for rape. So how are we defnding a rapist and finding it hot? You do realize that these are actors reading a script and acting them out? He took over a role and that Roger Howarth played and has done a good job with it. It is very difficult for an actor to assume the role of a character who was played by a popular actor. Can someone take over the role of Erica Cane? I dont think so.
@novusmundi no shit sherlock. I was talking about the way HE plays Todd...and I'm not the only one disgusted with his Todd. Do not treat me like an infant, I know soap operas are something that is acted out and pre-recorded. I know it isn't real. You sure made yourself look stupid making me look stupid.
@novusmundi you spelled Erica's last name wrong. It's "Kane" as in the late Ruth Warrick's(Phoebe Wallingford) movie "Citizen Kane" not "Cane" as in Cane Ashby played by Daniel Goddard on Y@R or even Cane and Abel.
but she should've gotten it for facing down the bair...or the birth control deceit....or her early days as a glamorous model...the 1973 abortion that never took place...geese anything really. Erika Slezak's stuff is a little bit too over the top in drama too but she's won more emmy's than anyone(I can't stomach Viki anymore) She's a father lover!
I'm willing to take a guess and say that he and Erica had just divorced so maybe it would have been hard for both of them had he attended along with everyone else(but yet wanted to make an appearance since Mona was his ma-in-law and knowing how important she was to Erica and Bianca.(plus you do know that this was the same year that Erica was on trial for the stabbing of Dimitri coz of the trouble Kendall caused)
true sally we all eventually lose someone we love. We all seem to take them for granted. My ex-bf wasn't kidding when she said "Nothing lasts forever."
this is life imitating art or vice versa this goes to show that until dirt was going to b poured on mona's casket erica didn't realize how important mona was to her. erica and mona loved each other. butt their were many times when erica took mona for granted. this is showing that u don't really appreciate someone in your life until their taken away from u.
Sorry kiddies, but she IS a good actress. If you know anything about the charactor of Erica Kane, you know that this is EXACTLY how she would react had she supressed her emotion about her mother's death, and then let it finally dawn on her. The ones that typically badmouth Lucci's work are fans of charactors that dont get as much screen time or notice, therefore they are bitter. Sorry, bad acting WILL get you replaced on a soap...no matter how much of a "staple" you are.
I completely agree. Anyone familiar with the character understands that the loss of Mona would hit Erica suddenly and cause utter devastation. I truly believe it never occurred to Erica that Mona would die, and the funeral really drove home the finality of the moment.
Yes from day one Mona and Erica had all the makings of a true mother-daughter relationship. for all the fights and tantrums Erica put up against Mona and yet the good talks and advice she took from Mona made it truly believable. Mona put up with a lot from Erica but she always truly loved her and if you ever did see those first 24 years of the show, yeah that would prove that Erica just always believed Mona would always be there for her just like we would with our own mothers.
or better yet for a character that gets way too much attention then they should and I think you know all those people I'm talking about(people who haven't even been on 10 years and our just forced down are throats like we're supposed to give a damn about these people when they really don't do much for us. With the exception of Zach, all I really care for on AMC is Erica, Adam and Tad and Jackson and Greenlee since their coming back. And Zach just wrapped up his 5 year stint so he's gone now.
No It is NOT!!! I am shedding a tear because I have seen this type of behavior in a friend that never forgave HIS real Mom for putting him up for adoption at his birth couple decades ago. When she transitioned, he behaved like this. He wanted her to come back so he could say he loved her.
Say what you will but Susan's was great but yes Jane's was pretty good too. I seen it after Anna Lee passed away and thought the funeral episodes of her were the best that were done in over a decade before that!
@capcomguy07 Right on. I prefer Jess Walton and Jane Elliot anyday over Susan Lucci. People can say Lucci's the best...but that's their own opinion. Some ppl like her some don't. She herself doesn't even think that the red carpets should be rolled out all the time. Life does not necessarily revolve around Erica and now that she's old granny(and basically alone most the time) she's seeing that.
@entertainme3000 I agree. Susan is not the best in her medium, I HATE to say it. It was nice to see Erica in an emotion other than bitchy or over-confident because she's an ugly cryer.
@capcomguy07 I think both ladies did an outstanding job. However I will say one thing Tracy NEVER let people see he hurt or cry while Erica you KNEW when her heart was broken. And from what I heard Lila s funeral was flimed the day or week they learned of Anna Lee s death, Great acting on both ladies parts, both made me cry my heart out.
yes he was. he was the only one out of all of them that I liked Erica with. the only one that can take all her drama. Too bad she's with Ryan now. Maybe now that Jackie's back, they can get that loving feeling again. Those two shared a passionate history whether fighting or loving. He's the only one that will do and if I were to have a son I would be honored to name him "Jackson" after walt willey's character.
Being a staple of a show doesn't make you a great actor. All My Children almost went off the air last year due to bottom ratings. The present Kendall displays the same amount of non-talent - makes a great mother-daughter portrayal. So glad they brought back Jesse, Angie & Hayward - THAT'S acting. Jake, too.
AMC was not on the verge of cancellation at all last year. That stupid rumor came from that rag, Daytime Confidential, where one of their "journalists", Nelson Branco, has a hard on for hating the show and often will come up with ludicrous rumors such as it will go off the air. It's HIS dream but not reality and he needs a life.
Lucci is not just a staple on AMC. She is the only soap actress to be a household name. She's doing something right and this clip proves it
I agree 2008 was great but 2009 was one of the worst years I've ever seen of this program so bad in fact that I don't think I've watched since Feb. 2009. the reasons are pretty obvious: a self-righteous bodybuilder (who looks like he's on steroids) who whores around with every woman he can get his dick into(and shouldn't be with the leading lady) and also the death of a character we've loved for 25 years who loved everybody just as they were. In fact, he was too forgiving.
true but if a person sucks so bad then they do get fired. But you're WRONG. Susan Lucci has more than deserved being crowned queen of daytime. I do agree though. I never did like Alicia Minshew or Sarah Michelle Gellar for that matter. I don't even like Kelly ripa. You can tell she's better suited at being an entertaining host than an actress. And don't get me started on Cameron Mathison. That man DOES not deserve to be on daytime. I don't care how much braun a person has.
Muscles don't make a great actor and an actress who eats no more than a bite of salad each day does not make an actress. remember back in the 70's-80's before everyone was so hormone driven and things weren't always about horny teens just to up the ratings, everybody looked and acted normal. They weren't ugly fat and boring. They were just normal everyday people. People didn't act so snotty and think of themselves all the time like people on soaps and in real life tend to do.
I'll tell you something funny it's the great daytime stars that we love that don't think their such great actors/actresses and that they ain't gonna last and then they prove themselves wrong by being there 30 or 40 years down the line. Some believe they'll still get fired. Some didn't even like soap operas until long after they got popular in their roles. soaps weren't always such a favorite of young americans.
Mona died in real life so they wrote her death in there, and since the actress who played Erica Kane was close to Mona along wit the rest of the staff, the acting wasnt fake she cried for real.
I know if you've ever watched Days of Our Lives but this happened the same summer that Macdonald carey(also an original actor of his own show) passed on. So this was the year for a lot of tearjerking deaths from the orginals we loved(grandma's and grandpa's, mother's and father's) Louis Edmonds who played Langley may have also died that year too but don't quote me on that. This may have taken place a few years later. he didn't get a funeral when he died because he vanished from campus.
@imachildofthe80s8089 Louis Edmonds passed away in 2001. Langley was last seen on camera in 1995. Langley's death was not mentioned until 2005 when Phoebe passed away.
Susan Lucci acted her but off in this scene! My heart actually hurt for her. Bobbi Eakes can also pull off a good funeral scene. Do you remember when Babe orginally died and they had the double funeral with Dixie?
it's not lucci's fault; it's the writers. and how about the late actress not even getting a nom for an Emmy? the poor woman gave her life to the show. and Lucci should have won the Emmy for this year.
Just because she's been with the show for years, doesn't mean she should be granted an award. Awards are given to who they feel are the BEST actors...not to those who have been with the show for years. Hell, I can name you PLENTY of actors who get shunned yearly at the Oscars.
Writers didn't want to give Erica the award for this show because it was a "bite" off the movie 'Imitation of Life.' There was nothing original about this scene.
LMAO! Hey, it's only tv. I've never heard of awards being granted to who can cry the best. This bit was copied off Imitation of Life if you've ever seen that movie. Furthermore, Emmy's are given based on overall performance throughout the year...NOT just for one scene. I know, because I was there at the Emmy's back in 2001.
No need to be so testy...it's just an opinion, darling. I don't care what already won an award...scenes that are regurgitated are just as able as new ones to win awards.
And Lucci has been on soaps for almost 40 years now so she's doing something right or else she would be fired. AMC has a history of firing bad actors and actresses...but that is not her. Why don't you try doing what she does-stay on a soap for 40 years if you think you can do better
I agree or the time when she the Bianca was going to die,, I think she was a baby at the time, she was in the hospital chapel I have been trying to find that clip.
Chokes me up every time.

Also, for the idiot who commented on her quote that Mona could die in there and "it's too late for that"...clearly you missed the point. When someone dies, we remain in denial about it for some time. For all of Erica and Mona's fights, she always counted on her mother to be there for her. Despite her success in career and what not, Erica did not know at this point how to move on but she found it in her to continue with her life and she made Mona happy....so she denied that her mother was gone.
cajayson8301 2 years ago
@cajayson8301 And you can agrue with your mom and still love her. There is no qustion Erica loved her mother. If Erica listen to anyone it was to her mom, not saying she followed her advice but she listened more then people think. And yes she counted on her mom, her mom is the one peson who never failed her
gibbdreamer 1 year ago
@gibbdreamer that's precisely how I feel about Erica/Mona...despite any of their arguing, Mona had the uncanny ability of keeping Erica grounded even if she attempted to make sense of her actions.

Death is never funny, even if it is a television program. this woman did die in real life and it was portrayed realistically.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
It made it all the more sad that Fran Heflin (Mona) really did die and Mona passed away with her.

sirsniffy 2 years ago 12
"Even" Erica is human? More like "ESPECIALLY" Erica is human.......very passionate, very driven, and feels things very deeply.
My only problem with this scene is that all these adults are just standing there watching Erica completely break down--and no one thinks to take charge of Bianca and get her out of there.
phoenixnyc 2 years ago
yeah...I noticed that. They just let that poor child see her mother combust! It is so good to see all those great faces though...the show has lost so much talent...such a shame.
yo, you should watch 'Greenlee Leaves Town'
sirsniffy 2 years ago 2
yeah that was so sad. ryan is such a f*-up! I'm thrilled Greenlee's coming back yet again but Ryan's no good for her. Look at what a WHORE(I'm sorry but that's what he is) he's become since she died. AND look at what a whore he's become since Gillian's died(the only one he was really good with just like Greenlee with Leo)
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
yeah that bothered me about that scene too. 25 of PV's elite was at the funeral but nobody really did jack to calm her down or get her away for a few minutes for like a drink water or to take a deep breath...and even worse, no one seemed to have noticed Bianca had disappeared! Good thing Dimitri arrived(ed's note: I think Dim and Erica had just divorced for the first time before this happened too) they would divorce again over her drug use/involvement wtih Kinder.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago

I watched AMC on and off since the early 70s (I stopped watching when they killed off Jenny Gardner). This is extremely hard to watch. Susan does an excellent job on this, as anyone who had lost a parent could see. I don;t think I could watch this scene again. I loved Mona. RIP
DrevikkDrevik 2 years ago 2
Yeah you picked a good time to stop watching. I think back in Sep of 84, AMC's decision to kill off Jenny(not sure if Kim Delaney was written out of if she chose to go for primetime already) was like GH's decision to kill Genie Francis Laura off shortly after her big wedding to Luke in 81. We were so invested in these characters with whatever show we watched and if we loved that character we loved the other half of that couple too. Yeah we were really passionate.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
Now it's more about just one person alone(the star) But back in the 80's it was all about the couples(Luke had to be with Laura, Greg had to be with Jenny, Roman had to be with Marlena, Cliff had to be with Nina and so forth. Yeah thinks weren't making to much since during the whole 84-86 period and favorites were being replaced like flies on the wall.

she was in denial. That could come in handy for you once you've lost someone with a lot of meaning in your life. We don't always accept death the moment we hear the news. LOL no movie. It's daytime soap opera All My children, an american classic for 40 years as of tomorrow(and one of the best shows ever written in the history books for any type of program) Though it's not so great like it once was.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
This year was 1993....I believe Linda Dano won this year....the following year, Hillary B. Smith (Nora, OLTL) won. I agree Susan is a great actress, but, the reason why she never won before 1999 was because all the scenes she submitted were just overly dramatic, but never showed any real acting range......
alstonpmaroon 2 years ago
Agreed.
Brownlyne 2 years ago
You have to understand that Erica is an overly dramatic character. That is how she was billed as being "over the top"...if you've seen Lucci's other work, she doesn't always get too dramatic but it's Erica's character so it's ok
Many also believe she did not win because the Emmys scored in ratings over the "will Lucci win or not?" so viewers tuned in each year and, when not winning, they tuned in the next year. Plus, in the past couple of years, the judges have done poorly on awarding Emmys
cajayson8301 2 years ago 2
Yeah "the ladies of the 80's" as I call them. My favorite dramatic actresses were AMC's Susan Lucci OLTL's Andrea Evans and Y@R's Brenda Dickson. what we now coin "diva's" daytime's got the best of them. Susan Lucci is the biggest star of daytime, surpassing even Oprah Winfrey and Bob Barker(up to 2007) She's also been at it the longest. She's also had some great movies, she's a spokesperson for speaking out against drugs so she's one of the clean daytime stars
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
Soaps are a profession where drugs have been used(and abused by a lot of actors/actresses(maybe not so much the writers as they gotta keep a clean head yet they seem to have been hitting drugs hard for some of the stupid shit they write) I guess soap actors are a lot like rock stars where fame can actually be a price if they don't use it wisely.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago

I agree with judges poorly judging. I cant remember the actor's name. But the OLTL Todd Manning execution scene was great and he didnt even get an Emmy nod.

@novusmundi it's gotten very political since the pre nomination process was introduced starting with the 2003 Emmys.
cajayson8301 1 year ago
That's because the man's a horrible actor and it would've been nice if he had died in the gas chamber. You guys don't know what makes a good soap anymore. I don't know why you guys defend rapists like it's hot or something.
imachildofthe80s8089 1 year ago
I dont think so.
novusmundi 1 year ago
@novusmundi no shit sherlock. I was talking about the way HE plays Todd...and I'm not the only one disgusted with his Todd. Do not treat me like an infant, I know soap operas are something that is acted out and pre-recorded. I know it isn't real. You sure made yourself look stupid making me look stupid.
imachildofthe80s8089 1 year ago
@novusmundi you spelled Erica's last name wrong. It's "Kane" as in the late Ruth Warrick's(Phoebe Wallingford) movie "Citizen Kane" not "Cane" as in Cane Ashby played by Daniel Goddard on Y@R or even Cane and Abel.

ButtCrackSally 2 years ago 2
Sorry kiddies, but she IS a good actress. If you know anything about the charactor of Erica Kane, you know that this is EXACTLY how she would react had she supressed her emotion about her mother's death, and then let it finally dawn on her. The ones that typically badmouth Lucci's work are fans of charactors that dont get as much screen time or notice, therefore they are bitter. Sorry, bad acting WILL get you replaced on a soap...no matter how much of a "staple" you are.
BrandisLee 2 years ago 2
I completely agree. Anyone familiar with the character understands that the loss of Mona would hit Erica suddenly and cause utter devastation. I truly believe it never occurred to Erica that Mona would die, and the funeral really drove home the finality of the moment.
This is totally in character with who Erica is.
ah1016 2 years ago 3
Yes from day one Mona and Erica had all the makings of a true mother-daughter relationship. for all the fights and tantrums Erica put up against Mona and yet the good talks and advice she took from Mona made it truly believable. Mona put up with a lot from Erica but she always truly loved her and if you ever did see those first 24 years of the show, yeah that would prove that Erica just always believed Mona would always be there for her just like we would with our own mothers.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
or better yet for a character that gets way too much attention then they should and I think you know all those people I'm talking about(people who haven't even been on 10 years and our just forced down are throats like we're supposed to give a damn about these people when they really don't do much for us. Say what you will but Susan's was great but yes Jane's was pretty good too. I seen it after Anna Lee passed away and thought the funeral episodes of her were the best that were done in over a decade before that!
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
@capcomguy07 Right on. I prefer Jess Walton and Jane Elliot anyday over Susan Lucci. People can say Lucci's the best...but that's their own opinion. Some ppl like her some don't. She herself doesn't even think that the red carpets should be rolled out all the time. Life does not necessarily revolve around Erica and now that she's old granny(and basically alone most the time) she's seeing that.
entertainme3000 1 year ago
@entertainme3000 I agree. Susan is not the best in her medium, I HATE to say it. It was nice to see Erica in an emotion other than bitchy or over-confident because she's an ugly cryer.

She's doing something right and this clip proves it
cajayson8301 2 years ago
I agree 2008 was great but 2009 was one of the worst years I've ever seen of this program so bad in fact that I don't think I've watched since Feb. 2009. the reasons are pretty obvious: a self-righteous bodybuilder (who looks like he's on steroids) who whores around with every woman he can get his dick into(and shouldn't be with the leading lady) and also the death of a character we've loved for 25 years who loved everybody just as they were. In fact, he was too forgiving.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
Yep 209 was one of the real shitter years and it didn't help matters that they killed off a legacy character and botched his whodunit story.

true but if a person sucks so bad then they do get fired. I don't care how much braun a person has.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
Muscles don't make a great actor and an actress who eats no more than a bite of salad each day does not make an actress. remember back in the 70's-80's before everyone was so hormone driven and things weren't always about horny teens just to up the ratings, everybody looked and acted normal. They weren't ugly fat and boring. They were just normal everyday people. People didn't act so snotty and think of themselves all the time like people on soaps and in real life tend to do.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
@yourbliss888 no shit sherlock. who's disagreeing?
imachildofthe80s8089 1 year ago
I'll tell you something funny it's the great daytime stars that we love that don't think their such great actors/actresses and that they ain't gonna last and then they prove themselves wrong by being there 30 or 40 years down the line. Some believe they'll still get fired. Some didn't even like soap operas until long after they got popular in their roles. soaps weren't always such a favorite of young americans.

This may have taken place a few years later. he didn't get a funeral when he died because he vanished from campus.
imachildofthe80s8089 2 years ago
@imachildofthe80s8089 Louis Edmonds passed away in 2001. Langley was last seen on camera in 1995. Langley's death was not mentioned until 2005 when Phoebe passed away.

You have a lot to learn...the actors and actresses have even said they only judge you on two tapes you submit, not a year's worth of work.

So! It's still a bit off; regurgitated scene from 'Imitation Of Life." I believe that scene already won awards.
Next!
