Just wanted to say thanks for this video, we were clueless on how to get the mounting ring off but thanks to this clear video showing everything we were finally able to locate our snap ring and get that dang thing off... :)
I followed all to the letter, for some reason I can't attach the garbage disposer to the ring. I tried even hoisting it and prying it up to the ring. And nothing. I don't know what's wrong. It just won't match (slash guard) up to the ring. Too much of a gap to reach ring. I removed it and put it back prior no problem. But I had something jammed in it and had to remove it again. Once fixed by a friend, I tried to reinstall and unable after trying everthing for 3 hours. What am I missing
seems like all of Lowe's videos that describe how to "install" something, are really just videos of how to replace something that was already previously installed...annoying.
Great video, but this is more of a "How to replace your old Garbage Disposal Unit". Since in order to install one from scratch, you have to a little bit more work.

The splash guard goes on the underside between the disposer and the sink basket. It helps dampen vibration
