  • i like the way you you were saying practice!!!!

  • 7 strings?

  • @dinzakos6 Yup :) It's a 7 string Ibanez. I just love that guitar. I'm getting an 8 string next.

  • wow..sounds great!!

  • Thanks :) Many more to come. This was a really fun lesson to make.

    Practice!

    Todd

  • @donski10 Thanks :) More headed up soon.

  • why not scallop the neck?(joke!)

  • I've actually thought about it :) A 7 string Scallop job could be sweeeet.

    Todd

  • ace

  • Thanks :)

  • wow pull offs are more difficult to get than hamer ons but once you make it they sound godly!

  • Well said!

    Practice!

    Todd

  • it's really hard to use pull off at high velocity, i'm praticing on doing major scales with pull on and pull off but i don't know why i do them in triplets...

  • It can be quite a challenge to do pull offs at speed but it's one worth working towards :) Keep it up!

    Practice!

    Todd

  • Awesome! I can't wait to try this out!

I haven't looked through all your videos. Do you happen to have any on building speed? I've hit a wall lately, even though I feel like I'm melting my metronome practicing. Haha, but my hands are definitely getting cut from all the practice! ;)

  • that was cool

  • Great lesson, thanks! What string gauge do you use in your 7-string guitar? What string gauges would you recommend for D tuning (ADGCFAD)?

  • I use 9gauge strings on all my guitars. Even when doing drop D. If I think a song could use drop D, I switch to my 7 string which has a low B.

    Todd

  • what song that plays on the intro of this video?

  • Great Question :) It is a track from a band I used to play with called GNOSTIC. I played on their first Demo and this was a solo from one of those tracks called "Violently Calm". The drummer in that band is Steve Flynn who is without a doubt the best drummer I've ever seen in my life.

  • thanku so much sir for this video i want to ask that which chords and scales he use more for classical music thanks

  • Thanks for watching :) As for clasical, I'd say start working with the Harmonic Minor scale. It's a great place to start :)

    Practice!

    Todd

  • Thanks for watching :) More on the way.

    Practice!

    Todd

  • It sounds like you are just kind new at this. The noise could just be fret buzz or even string noise from striking a different string by mistake. Try to mute the strings you are not working on by using your right palm on the bridge. It really is just a matter of....

    Practice!

    Todd

  • Ok and there is something strange.

Usually i can't play those things. And now after watching that video i got it in about 2 minutes. Of course not as fast as you, but about 2 times the speed i could usualy do.

Maybee because i can play Pentatonic blindfolded, or its just to long ago and the last time i tryed it my playing really sucked ;)

  • I'm glad the vids are helping ;) That's the whole reason I started doing them. I remember struggling to find a teacher who could shred and share techniques. It was really hard. Thank goodness for the internet :) I'm going to make some much more in depth vids for my site.

    Practice!

  • hey im a beginner

i think i want to get a distortion pedal for the music i want to play..

what styles of music are distortion pedals mostly used in ? sorry, im a beginner !

  • I endorse DIGITECH pedals so I'd say go get any DIGITECH pedal you can afford. I LOVE mine and they just flat out rock!

    Practice!

    Todd

  • ye man i have a digitech metal master got everything ive ever needed as far as distortion goes digi tech 10/10

  • hi todd is that a factory setting on your gnx3 or did you process it yourself nice tone

    Todd

  • dude, i need your help! how come when i tap the strings..i can't barely hear them! how come when you tap em, they sound really loud?

    help me!

  • Sounds like you need two things.

1.)More gain. Get a distortion pedal. Go to a music store and try a few out.

    2.)More practice. Tap harder! :)

    Todd

  • Thanks very much for registering on the web site :) I'm trying to get a core group on there and start a great guitar community. Keep practicing!

    Todd

  • More to come :)

  • i have the same mouse as u lol

  • Really? You have a limited edition Diamond Back Plasma? Well done!

  • you should do a vid on sweeping that seems to be in demand right now since most vids on tat usually suck

  • I've got a sweep vid coming in my next series, it was going to be on the DVD but now it will just be on my web site. Practice!

  • Todd...I see what you're doing...and I like!

  • Great, thanks :) Lesson 13 is up now as well!

  • cool

  • Thanks :)

  • Hey Todd, really nice videos there. Very helpfull! Now seems that i cant find the videos from 6 to 12, do they exist? Thank you! 5 stars

  • Thanks for watching :) Those vids have a new home on REVVER(DOT)COM

  • are you in a band or something?

  • Yes :) My band is called KRESTFALLEN. We are releasing an E.P. early in the new year.

  • Thank You! This stuff is killing my hand (but in a good way) wokring up the speed now. 5 stars only cause I can't put 6!

  • Thanks very much for watching and posting ;) Remember, don't play until you injure yourself. Or give yourself carpal tunnel :) If you feel discomfort, stop playing for a while and do some gentle hand strectches. You gotta take care of your hands and arms :)

  • Thats a good point todd. Maybe you can do a video about stretching techniques

  • Great idea! I'll do a lesson focused on stretching.

  • Wow you´re awesome, can you teach some lessons for sweep picking please? Keep on shreddin´!!

  • Todd please...a lesson of arpeggios or sweep picking, also about other scales

  • Hey , great vid todd. Just a quicky (seeing as this is the most recent vid) i know you have done a vid on Pinched harmonics but im struggling. Does it matter what pickups you have I have generic ones and i find it hard .Again sorry to hijack the comments :P

  • Great question! I used stock pickups myself, the secret lies in having lots of distortion/gain. For that I use a GNX3, you can get one on my techniqueswithtodd web site. Practice!

  • Cracking stuff, I've learnt more watching your vids since discovering them 2 weeks ago than in the last year "playin with myself!" Kepp it up u star

  • I'm glad the vids are helping :) I'ts great to see they have made it across the pond! Keep shredding and don't forget....Practice!

  • Yeah! Great lessons! 5*

  • Thanks for watching! Be sure to check out the web site as well.

    Practice!

  • thanks for the videos

  • Thanks for watching :) More to come!

  • Great Lick, could you please make a lesson about the harmonic minor scale and the double harmonic scale, also the melodic minor

  • Goog suggestions! I'll add those in future lessons. Microtonal scales can be a lot of fun :)

  • thats a really exercise Todd. 5 out 5 :)

  • Thanks :) More to come, stay tuned!

  • Cool lick, my pull offs are pretty shitty, when on any other string other than the high E, I strike the other strings with my left hand and make them ring out. Oh and BTW that wasnt a blues scale, a blues scale is a pentatonic scale with a b5.

  • The blues scale typically contains a "Flat 5th" to give it the blues sound, however, the pentatonic scale is often called the blues scale as a matter of instructional shorthand.

  • I wasnt aware of that.

  • You know what they say, you learn something new every day :)

  • Wicked Tekknik man, I love yout videos, you break things down so it's easy to follow, not like others who just do full speed demos..

    Rock On Todd \m/

what guitar/amp setup do you use? i run a Jackson Warrior WRXT into a Line6 Spider II 30watt, and does the same fingerings apply if i'm tuned in D? low to high DGCFAd?

  • I use a GNX3 which is just love, you can get one on my site at

    www(dot)techniqueswithtodd(dot)com

As for tuning to D, try the pattern and see if you like the way it sounds. I use a seven string with a low B which I also love. You can get one on my site as well.
