I don't know why people talk shit about the recoil unless they are pussies I have a super redhawk 44 mag and I shoot hot rounds and it jerks about like that sooooo don't be jellous of the recoil on the viedo just don't be a pussy and learn how to hold a gun
Big difference between the .454 and the .45 long colt. The first round created a Fanta Fountain lol. The second round was rather a slow lumbering round. The .454 is a bear dispatcher!
@cimvitimlip amount of kick on any firearm has alot to do with how much powder is in the round. if you shoot a .454 that is not a full load of power then the kick will be less, but you'll still be shooting a .454 casull.. You have mad kick because you use high powder rounds.
Rod have you ever chronographed your alaskan using 454 casull buffalo bore ammo tipped with 360 grain bullets? I wish I could find some chronograph data for the alaskan using that load.
Once again, sorry to disappoint. But the first round is a .454 Winchester 260gr. No, they are not the heaviest load, but they are Casull's, Her round, as I have said many times is a .45 LC... I have shot Alaska Backpacker Ammo in 370gr and yes, they can practically take your wrist off, but I can still handle them with plenty of room to spare.... Your post goes to show that everybody is a critic and people love to talk out of their ass.
the only thing i wonder about is if by having that short of a barrel that you may loose wanted velocity. I want every advantage possible on a attacking bear. Just seems weird a 454 being easy to shoot. I just wonder if the bullets has enough barrel to do the job right to reach a wanted velocity.Ive been told the better choice would be at least 4 inch barrel.
@skrullion Your a dumb fuck. every gun can be used for a different situation. for quick handling protection against bears and what not, and for carrying for persal defence... a fucking smith and wesson 500 mag would never be a good choice for these situations.
Helluva boat anchor for CCW work. I doubt anyone is even making suitable gun-leather. Good trail gun in grizz country in a heavy duty belt holster or a chest rig.
great video I got the same results from my alaskan 454. Accurate and deadly as far as penetration with a hardcast bullet. I live in alaska and use it for it's intended purpose and I couldn't be happier except for the accasional lock up when shooting 45 long colt out of it.
i've been using corbon 325gr. its really all that is available where i live, I'm going to start reloading soon so, hopefully i can find something that works better.
have you ever had any issues with extraction? on the heavier loadings for me they start to stick, and if i keep at it, eventually they don't want to come out at all.
We went shooting the other day, and yes, some of the Casull's began to stick, but they always came out. I read about that problem with other people before also. What ammo are you using? The magtechs, but when I shot winchesters before, they did not seize at all.
supposedly shooting shorter rounds build up carbon in the chambers so when you go back to full length rounds the carbon build up effectively raises the pressure in the case and bulges cases so that they stick. Saw that in a fairly recent American Rifleman where they were talking about the 460 S&W Magnum, and the revolver. shoots 45LC,454, and 460.
I read something similar -- some say don't shoot .45 LC in the .454 for just that reason. It makes sense to reload this expensive round for target practice anyway, and you can load them to .45LC levels.
I love the video, i have the Raging Bull in .454 and love it. Happy shooting.

I was about to say...that doesn't look anthing like the recoil from a .454
One of my female coworkers was shooting my .44 pc hunter and it almost dislocated her shoulder. I'd assume the .454 is more severe

Please somebody help me from embarrasing myself. Is "casull" pronounced like KA- SOOL (rhymes with COOL) or KA-SULL (rhymes with DULL)?

@SabinoPointer It would be good for defence against bears, but it is not as practical as a Casull.
1ohtaf1 2 years ago
@1ohtaf1 your right, it would be better defence than .45 casull, but the size isnt resonible.
