rwells, thank YOU!!! I was looking for this song for almost 35 years! I thought it was the Partridge Family - so that wasn't helping- and itunes needs a letter perfect set to search. So RAD! Thanks again!
@gatortailor- You have a great ear ! I heard the difference too. This is a more recent re-recording by DewDrop for a "Seventies Compilation" or something. The recording here is not the recording on the 45 pictured . I played it to death too! -Good shot gator!
Wow, this was the very first single I ever purchased. I bought in 1971 from a Singer Sewing Machine store, in Los Angeles. I was about 11. I wondered, "Is all music like this?" It was 99¢ for the 45.
I always thought this was some jingle or made up song....from when I was kid! Never thought it was real! Must have been 2-3 yrs old. Only remember the refrain, but remember it well, as sung my older neighbor kids, but thought that they made it up! Something new every day!
I was in H.S. in the early 70's and our football team had an away game. We stopped at a little no-name roadside stop for gas and sodas. One of the guys put a nickle in the juke box and played this song. There were several redneck "locals" sitting around the place. It looked like we may have a fight on our hands for playing this song, but we got out in one piece!
@dmoninger1 When I was in high school in the early 70's we had a talent show in music class. This one boy dressed up half way like a girl, I don't remember if he wore panties or not but he sang and danced to this song on the stage in front of the whole class. Caused something of a stir for the early 70's, I don't think the word "gay" even existed, but the word "queer" did.
This song was played on the "Groovy Ghoulies" cartoon show. At the end of each cartoon, the cast would play a song along with video with the characters.
Great song, prominently featured in an episode of 'The Groovy Goolies' cartoon series in the early 1970's. Very rarely played on mainstream oldies FM stations nowadays!
this was the first album i ever bought, along with issac hayes greatest hits cause i loved theme from shaft. i think i was ten. it had a song on it called 'march of the white corpuscles' which i never forgot. thank you for dredging this one up dude!
I brought this to class in the second or third grade. The assignment was to pick a song and write out the lyrics. My teacher wasn't impressed. I had no idea about the context of the song, as kids we probably liked the catchy chorus most of all
Have often thought about this song and tried to find it. I loved it as a kid even though and probably because it was a bit "naughty". Thank you for posting.

Thanks much for the lyrics. For decades, I been wondering what the words were at "Whomp-bobba-looba ba-lomp-bam-boom". Mystery solved! Much appreciated.
I love this one as well. I agree with DJS59, I too bought both of the same as him. With an age difference of 2 years. As for Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog, I sang that on a radio call in show a couple years back, and actually won the Taco Bell 6 pack for 2 that they had going for that week. I sang almost the full song, not just a couple lines, like most of the people were doing that week.
we still have this 45 somehere in the house. i used to bring it to 2 and 3rd grade with me and played it during indoor recess! my best friend and i couldn't get enough of it!
I always thought I imagined this song. I remembered it for some reason but could not tie it to anything. So, now I know I am not nuts but where I heard it and when, as I must have been really young, is a mystery.
I have been up all night with insomnia and this song just popped in my head and I had to hear it again. You gotta love youtube there isn't anything I haven't been able to find..... Thank you so much for putting this together.....
Oh my gosh I have not heard this is a hundred years..whoA..so very cool that you put this up..what a memory..thank you for giving me the heads up on this one..wow..
LOL, I first heard this on "Sabrina and the Groovy Gholies" Saturday morning cartoon show I watched as a kid! The following Monday, all the kids in my 5th grade class were singing "Chick a boom". Thanks Ron, for ths one. :)
I was a bit older than others that have commented here, so I have different memories of this time--I was 'partying' by then, lol! Thanks for posting, Ron.
I really dug this song back in the fall of 1971 when it was played often enough being it was a top 10 hit. It reminded me of that green door by jim lowe, and "whats that secret your keeping". In the case of chick-a-boom, he opens the door(s) even tho its in his dreams. Thanks for posting this fantasy of a rock&roll gem.
