My favorite opera singer with Victoria de los Angeles. Their effortless and apparent simplicity is the result of amazing artistry, sincerity and truthfulness. Beautiful souls, beautiful and deep emotions.
Where IS the da capo? If it is not available, I would be tempted to add a clip of part A to the end, even without the usual da capo vocal ornamentation, just to properly round out the aria.
A remarkably beautiful mezzo voice: a rich timbre with tightly controlled vibrato and a very precise technique, NOT sloppy, as too many other singers are, i.e., scooping up to high notes, sliding from note to note, warbly vibrato, etc. I would have loved to have heard her live in this role. A video favorite.
of course, she sang Julius Caesar on stage, a wonderful Cesar, one I will never forget. With da capo arias all along, in London, Geneva and other places, around 1985. strengh and velvet her voice, I miss Tatyana!
It's not what we would now consider "authentic" or "historically informed" but it is singing of such majesty & beauty, that communicates so deeply & truly, that questions of style & technique are irrelevant. Just great great singing. Makes me weep.
A few years ago I heard Tatiana's recording of Dido's Lament & was floored by it. Now I am rediscovering her . I am sad that she left us so soon, as did Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. Not fair. Two astounding artists. What is wonderful is that their sounds are different and so distinctive. Thanks for sharing this recording.
This performance is beyond words....it is spectacularly beautiful. Tatiana Troyanos never ceased to amaze me with her versatility and incredible technique. Every voice student should take heed of this incredibly enormous talent...da capo please!!!
Because this aria is Cleopatra's and TT only sang Cleopatra for this recording (the first ever uncut Cesare, under Karl Richter), technically it doesn't count as one of her "great roles" (her great role in this was Cesare). But in a way actually it IS, because she sings this soprano music (!) with tremendous class, personal generosity, technique, and that succulent timbre. No wonder why aspiring mezzos STILL devour her performances: they are CLASSICS! Brava TT

This is a da capo aria, right? WHERE IS THE DA CAPO? I want to hear more but it cuts off after the second section! So disappointing.
