The throw was ok the kicks were poor and the coreography marginal, probably the drama was obviously there, for teenage viewers to be impressed! There are kicks in judo in goshinjitsu kata, self defense study, and strikes, just not in sport judo!

@SierraFoxOne Thanks for the reply! I've been practicing Kudokan Judo for about 3 months. I had previously been practicing Sanuces Jujitsu/KungFu for about 3 years previously. At first I thought Judo was just a sport. I really underestimated it as a combat form. Despite the atemi waza techniques and joint locks I found that the throws are not that simple and takes time to learn well. I'm currently out of the dojo for 2 weeks and work for 1 week because of an injury I sustained during randori.LOL

There ARE kicks in Judo (Kudokan/Kudokan Goshin) they're just not allowed in randori and sport competition. But for self-defense, police, military, yes there are kicks, punches and judo "chops"(knife strikes)it looks not much different from its parent form of traditional jujitsu. Please refer to chapters 9 and 19 of Dr. Kano's book.

@sfumatoking Educate the ill-informed! Any Judo fan or practitioner would tell you that Judo isn't all about throws. It has strikes, joint locks, blocks, and other techniques you can find in other martial art disciplines.

In similar vein, Muay thai has throws. Taekwondo has punches and other hand strikes (like "spear point" thrusts). Jujitsu has strikes. Kendo has strikes and techniques using the hilt rather than the blade.

World of martial arts is so full of diversity.
