3 dislikes....3 people who don't know good music when they hear it. The first time I heard this version on the Johnny Cash Show DVD's I got chills. Beautiful.
In love with all of there songs one good thing about country music is that they tell there own stories in every lyrics you hear on the radio, yt or anywhere or what ever. Don't get to hear good music that tells a story these days Iove the Everly Brothers I can relate to most of there songs
From what I've read...their father taught them everything they know musiacally. He taught them to play "righthanded' even though they were left handed because it was easier to tune a guitar and he didn't want them to be called "Lefty". He taught them to keep time and to harmonize. They practiced with him almost every day for their family radio show. After the radio show days were over, he and Margaret got lowpaying jobs & sent money to the boys as they tried to further their career.
@aynatn : Good for Ike! He saw talent in his wonderful sons and did the right things for them! My son is a left-handed guitarist, and plays left-handed, without restringing, just turns the guitar upside-down (like Jimi Hendrix).
But I don't think that was acceptable in those days. It must be difficult enough to sing and play at the same time, the way they do. (This from someone who can't walk and chew gum! LOL!)
This doesn't mean much (if anything) to non-guitarists. However, the guitar that Tommy Cash was holding when introduced and that John played during the song is a D-45S from the Martin Custom Shop. Assuming this show was shot in the early 70s and the guitar was made no later than the mid to late 60s, it is probably made with Brazilian rose wood. The value of this guitar without the provinance is in the 6 figures.
Thank you for this. I am looking for a few historical recordibngs of Ike or margaret becasue i want to do a little radio show on the Everly brothers . This will do if I cant get anything by the parents
@Merrywidowofthewest : I have subbed your channel, in case you ever make a video/audio of that show and post it on youtube. I hope you have come up with some recordings of Ike and Margaret Everly. That would be something!
Was that the 12th of October 1971 at the Royal Albert Hall in London? If it was I was there in the audiance, I think its the only time they sung the Rolling Stones song "Honky Tonk Women" and they also did "Sing Me Back Home" the first time I ever heard it. I remember Ike playing "Step it up and go".
No, the concert was recorded in Rotterdam (probably later that month in 71). It also has the Honky Tonk woman and a nice version (opening) of Bowling Green. Also Sing me back home etc are on it. In the end they do a couple of Gospelsongs. Quite nice.I will see what I can do. It is on tape but I will find a way to digitalise it!
Just read that Paul McCartney will have some special guests at his concert this weekend in Liverpool. mmmmmmm i live in hope!!!! that he can persuade Don and Phil to come over
This is the first time I ever saw their father. I must have listened to them thousands of times as a teenager.

Too bad there is almost no other singers out there can sing as good as this with only 3 guitars ! Sing in sweet harmony, yeah... Love them all !

Their mama Margaret taught me to sing harmony when I use to stay with her while recording in Nashville. And I use to play that guitar of Ike's...
I loved that time in my life... And would not trade those memories for nothing...

Two-part Country harmony doesn't get any better than the Everlys.

It's terrific that both Everly brothers are still on the planet and Phil gets to celebrate his 70th birthday this month!

When I watch this video, it's hard to believe Don Everly will be seventy-two years old in about three weeks.

I have the full concert (audio) of the Everlies in October 1971 with several songs by Ike. Must see to encode it digitally some day.

I saw this on TV the other week - it was great to see all of those great country performers in pristine video and audio from around 40 years ago.

You're right, I saw Ike play in London back in 1971, he was a brilliant guitarist.
