This is the original Ju-On for television. It had a sequel. After that came Ju-On The Grudge and Ju-On The Curse, both were Japanese cinema releases. And then Shimizu was asked to remake his movies starring American actors. I think they made only one The Grudge, which was not even scary, with bad acting - the two horror styles, the Japanese and the American, completely misunderstood each other. The same happened earlier, with The Ring - the Japanese movie is great, the American version is lame.

First there was released ''ju-on'' and ''ju-on 2'', but they were pretty low budget, straight to video and kinda short, around 70 minutes. After those two, they made the (japanese) ''ju-on: the grudge 1+2'' and after these two followed the american remakes. Which are just called ''The Grudge''.

While were dicking around with concepts that have been done to death, japan really wised up and took the world by suprize when it comes to horror.

And Jacobs Ladder should be higher up, its a forerunner in American Horror!

The Japanese have been doing the same damn ghost stories for decades man. There's nothing new about it apart from you having access to the movies and the remakes.

I think the French have come through recently with a lot of challenging horror. They aren't known for it but they've been out 'goring' anyone with uncomfortable imagery. The Spanish as well have been tooling around with some interesting ideas.

There just needs to be better funding for ideas that aren't tired and weak...

Having seen these 5, I would say decent start. I wouldn't have put in the Mist. John Carpenter did it so much better in The Fog. The Exorcist 3? HAve you watched any European horror? I would put most of them on top of that.

But that's my opinion. I loved the music and video production.

The one that was in the clip was the frist theatrical release. The one that you said was filmed badly was probably the very first Ju-on film, which was a straight to VHS movie. The theatrical releases of Ju-on were much better than the VHS versions or the American remakes. :)
